The Witcher 2 goes Unresponsive at Launch (SOLVED)

There is an extremely frusturating problem that occurs when I try to launch the game.

Heres a quick rundown of what I am experiencing:

I launch The Witcher 2 through Steam, and the Launcher pops up. I click "Launch Game" and the wolf symbol pops up in the middle of my screen. After about 4-6 second it gives me a "The Witcher 2 is not responding" message and kicks me back to the Launcher screen.

There is no error message, or weird encrypted message like other users are experiencing.

I've tried multiple solutions, such as:

1) Deleting unused/bad toolbars
2) Completely deleting and reinstalling .NET Framework 4 (both the Client Profile and Extended)
3) Uninstalling and Reinstalling The Witcher 2 from Steam multiple times (more then 3)
4) Updating the time on my system
5) Checked for programs such as Virtu, Lucidlogix, and Hydralogix (Don't seem to have any of these)
6) Checked for the file "Acaptuser32.dll" - which I don't have on my computer.

Any help would be much Appreciated.

Thanks.

What are your system specifications? Before going into anything more complicated, let's make sure that you have a system that's adequate to run the game.

I have:

Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002)

Video Card: Nvidia Geforce 560 GTX Ti

Processor:Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz(4 CPUs), ~2.3GHz with around 8 GB of ram

Desktop Resolution: 1920x1080, Direct X 11

If there is anything else important that I'm missing then just let me know.

Nothing on that sounds like it would be a problem. Systems that age won't have Lucid Virtu or anything like it. When you got the 560 Ti, you did get a good power supply to go with it, right?

My next guess is an interfering antivirus program. The 2011 edition of Kaspersky is the usual culprit, but there may be others.

Is your card overclocked ? If yes then try running at stock clocks .
Also if you want you can post some screenshots of your installed programs using windows snip it . If you don`t feel comfortable making those public then email them to me .

Well, this system did start with two Nvidia Geforce 9800s. After a while, I decided to get a new video card. After lots of talking with Nvidia people on the phone they said this would be a good upgrade to go with my system with the budget I had.

But anyways, I do have Kaspersky, but it is the 2012 version.

I have the overclocking software installed, but I never got around to actually overclocking anything because I am not very tech savy overclocking wise; so I was going to call Nvidia to see if they could help me out in that department.

Anyway, I think I could leave some screenshots, but of what exactly. Just of my programs list? If so, I have a LOT of stuff on this computer, so that may take 3-4 screenshots

Yep just your programs list
Your card clocks should be the following
Core clock - 822
Shader clock - 1645
Memory clock - 2004
I run the exact same specs as you with memory , cpu , and graphics card . How old is your power supply and is it at least a 500 Watt .

I'm not sure exactly when I got this computer with its power supply, but I would say in 2009. And I don't know exactly how strong my power supply is, but its strong enough to run 2 Nvidia 9800 GTs, So yeah.

Ill get you the screenshots in a few.

Edit: On second thought, Ill just email you the screenshots, think it'll be easier that way.

If you get the chance and feel like it just pull the side cover and look at the sticker on the PSU it should give a brand name . But if it ran 2 9800`s then the wattage should be ok but i`m more concerned with the make and model number . A cheaply made PSU can be a real pain in the ... but we`ll cross that bridge momentarily .

Ok on the screenies .

Try uninstalling these 3 in order trying witcher 2 after each program uninstall
Media Bar
Hutch`s Super fantastic TOOLBAR toolbar
Conduit Engine

OK i`ll see what i can find on the PSU .

EDIT : believe it to be a very reliable 750W Delta PSU

For some reason, Hutch's Toolbars seems to not want to remove itsself from my computer. i actually uninstalled that toolbar in specific before posting on here and it keeps reappering in my programs list.

Ill remove the others and see what happens

I'll be damned. I removed both Media Bar and Conduit engine and Witcher 2 is running properly. It was something that simple this entire time.

Thank you very much Tommy, you just save my 40$ from completely going down the drain.

NOW I can hit the solved button, thanks again :).

No problem and i`m glad it`s working for you .
The Hutch`s toolbar not uninstalling is usually not a good sign .
Try either of these to see if they can remove it . Both have a free version .

Welp, Malwarebytes has been running for 19 hours. o_O. Only one object has been detected so far. No estimate time done.

If you already removed the said above toolbar, probably there is nothing more to be removed. Malware antibytes is pretty effective even in the basic free version.
Sometimes, I can manage to spot and forcely remove adwares and malware with Spybot. The latest version is great.

If you haven't removed that malware yet, I suggest you to search in Windows registry and find the reg entry related to that malware. Are you familiar with the registry?
