Sounds like Optimus . try this
1. Open NVIDIA Control Panel
2. Select: Advanced View
3. Navigate to: Manage 3D Settings
4. Select tab entitled: Program Settings
5. Use the "Add" button to find and add the .exe file(s) for the game(s)
you would like to use the Nvidia card for
6. Select the option "High Performance NVIDIA Processor"
7. Click on "Apply"
8. Exit the NVIDIA Control Panel

Also if you`re trying to play in full HD then try lowering the resolution to 1280 x 720 or 1600 x 900

With laptop is difficult to move The Witcher 2 unless you play on laptop gamer, and still at average levels.

In your test case starting with lower resolutions, such as 800x600 and medium levels, and from there you can see testing in graphics up or down, and likewise in resolution. The Witcher 2 on average it still looks great.

The weak spot in your system is the card . While laptops are getting more powerful they are still limited to how well they can get rid of the excess heat buildup that is generated .

The graphics card. GPU parts are always the weak spot of mobile computers, as they are inherently the most power-hungry components of a PC and therefore need to be cut down to stay within power and temperature limits. Therefore you also have to pay way too much for the more powerful mobile GPUs, compared to their desktop-pendants.

Edit: argh, I was ninja'd by Tommy. Too slow... ;)

Hello all,

I have recently purchased TW 2 off GOG and trying to run it as best as possible on my dell 7720 with specs:

Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 2GB DDR5
Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor (6M Cache, 2.4 GHz up to 3.40 GHz)
8GB (2x4096) 1600MHz DDR3

It's a 17 inch display which supports up to 1920 x 1080, but at this resolution I get about 17-18 FPS even after numerous twiggling with the settings.

It will be much appreciated if you can recommend the best settings to run the game on in order to get a satisfactory balance of visual quality & performance.

Many thanks.

I have a Macbook pro retina with 650m GPU with 1 GB GDDR5, on windows:

1280x720 high settings - 40-50fps.
1080p low settings 30-40 fps.
1080p medium settings i have around 20-30 fps.

Although the 650m from my computer have equivalent speeds to 660m notebooks, I don´t think he need try so lower resolution.
