Dear a bunch of people: this isn't a piracy thread. We have one already, and it was even recently bumped. Quit harshing this thread's mellow with your baseless negativity.

Back on topic—if Witcher 1 sells a bunch when Witcher 2 is released, all the more reason to boost Witcher 2 sales by releasing Witcher 3 ASAP, right?

Not really big numbers. But high brow stuff never guarantees big numbers.

And don't forget the rather steep system reqs.

People will keep buying the game once they upgrade their PCs.

Ignorance? Its a fact. You are ignorant if you think TW2 sales would be worst then 1 million if game would be released on PS3 and 360 instead of PC. It would be 2-3 million by today no problem with piracy almost non existent on PS3.

gabe is greedy and stupid. why do you think he said that? to promote and increase sales. every ps3 version had free steam code included for PC version of portal 2. thats how you get those numbers so high if they actually were so high. you might still be lucky and find them on ebay if you look closely for half the retail price.

wonder when was the last time single player exclusive PC game sold 3-4 million copies! 5-10 years ago? I know Sims 2 and 3 did well.

This is great news. Also, I can count myself among those 400,000 for TW1 last year.

I'd say it speaks very highly of two things: Word of mouth, and the quality of these games.

I never said piracy wouldn't have some sort of effect on the sales. But it's not as bad of an issues as people make it out to be. And do you honestly think TW2 would sell well on PS3 when even Sony's own exclusive PS3 games with big marketing campaigns don't sell much better? Like Killzone 3, Resistance 3, Motorstorm games, Infamous 2 etc.

The game sold better on PC. Fact.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/08/31/gabe-newell-portal-2-did-better-on-pc-left-4-dead-did-better-on-consoles/

If he was trying to promote Steam why didn't he just say L4D too sold better on PC?

When was the last time a single player exclusive game sold 3-4 million copies on any platform?

uncharted 2 sold around 5+ million copies. MGS4 around 6+ million, GT5 as well around 5 million but Im sure Gears of war and other sold much, much more. and thats only exclusive to one platform what if those games would come out on both consoles. no PC game can beat that and ever will get close to that score maybe Diablo 3 but only bcoz it will be supported and driven by Battle.net which might prevent against part of piracy.

Uncharted & GT5 had multiplayer. I thought we were discussing SP only games? MGS4 though sold like crazy but it's a very established franchise altogether and more of an exception anyways. Most best selling games (apart from Japanese franchises like MGS and FF) are the ones with multiplayer modes.

And btw, Starcraft 2 was pirated by the millions. Didn't stop it from selling 4-5 million or so last time I checked (About a year ago) And iirc it still wasn't released in China at the time.

Also, Minecraft already broke 4 million sold copies before it was officially released :p

No. Don't rush Witcher 3. W2 was a bit rushed, like half a year, and that caused alot of giref. Don't rush it - make it the best quality game ever. W2, being an awesome game, will defend itself on its own in sales, and definetly will get a boost in sales on PC also due to the x360 release and the Enchanced Version

Oh come on, they could at least tease us with something about the next Witcher so we can all start speculating and arguing. This way those years until Witcher 3 hits the shelves will go by faster! :)

Of course they shouldn't rush it, but hiring a couple hundred (thousand, million) people to fast-track the whole process and hit us up with that Wicha-ness sooner wouldn't be a bad thing. Adding a few things to bolster productivity couldn't hurt either, like replacing sleep with caffeine pills and attaching car batteries to employees who are constantly monitored via webcam so that we can shock them if they're slacking off. Innocent little things like that.

Then again, I'm the kind of person who yells at the toaster for taking too long, so this isn't exactly an objective view.

Years. Ugh, that word wounds me. It feels like we're going to have to wait until everyone is flying around with jet packs before it'll be released.

Maybe we should start a garden of slow-growing trees, or adopt a bunch of cats. Just something to pass the time. Monthly beard races? Eh, we'll probably think of something.

I can bet we're gonna have horses in W3 :)

@ 227

I think they already work to the limits, they did so for W1 and W2, where alot of them stayed after hours with no pay to polish(see what i did here? ) the game. They've even slept in the office to save time they'd loose going back home & to the office again. This was actually said by one of the dev's on a blog or on the forums afair, way back.

It is true, that waiting till 2015 for W3 will be a bi#ch... but they still might release a toolset, which certainly would increase the longivity of W2. Plus, I think there's some major DLC or add-on planned for W2 somwhere near 2013?

I was gonna say... don't even joke about that. Their work conditions were a mess during TW1. It is briefly mentioned in one of the Dev Diaries on TW1EE bonus DVD, although they made it sound better than it was.

Reaaaaaaaaaaally? I didn't know that. Props to them for being so consistently awesome and dedicated, then.

Also, that pun was hilariously awful. I think I like you.

And now I regret never watching the stuff on the bonus DVD. Meant to, but the soundtrack was always... right... there...

I agree. Witcher 2 is a purely single-player game and a relatively new IP as far as videogames go (at least in comparison to MGS, FF, Legend of Zelda, etc.). Plus Witcher 2 had a much smaller budget and very little advertising compared to most high-profile releases, so I think the sales are very good. And surely now that they're investing a bit more in advertising for the 360 version, the sales for both versions will increase.

Since they've added several hours worth of new missions, mainly during Act 3 near the end of the game, I think that the Enhanced Edition will have much more foreshadowing in terms of what will be in TW3 :D

The game was released in late May, so it wasn't really a year.

Still I'm pretty curious about this, I mean, they said the game had sold around 940.000 copies back in August (Link to the article: http://pc.ign.com/articles/119/1191548p1.html). So the game only sold around 150.000 copies since August? Even after they were giving away a free copy of The Witcher with The Witcher 2 on GoG? Even after the Steam sales?

Still, 1.1 million in half a year is pretty bananas for a PC exclusive made by a small studio.

Check sales graphs of any game on VGchartz. There you can see that sales almost die after first 3 months.
