the Witcher 2 stopped working as i launch it and another very annoying thing.....

Firstly: The "another very annoying thing"... I've had this problem where the game crashes as soon as i try to launch the game from the launcher (fyi i have the steam version). Found many many threads on many different sites with people with the same problem. Many of them directed to solutions located here. but ALL of them direct me to this: http://gyazo.com/60ba0cf785b4183402c4456f689666f4 (screenshot of the page i always end up in)
This is very frustrating. Why do you block people away from all these helpful links? for promotion purposes? because you think it is helpful? WHY? ahwell...

Now to my problem. I downloaded the game through steam today. Every time I press Launch game in the launcher the witcher 2 icon appears and then i get the "...stopped working" message. I cant see many of the solutions and the ones i could read and see didn't work. such as blocking the launcher from "calling home" as someone called it. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2835946&page=2
I tried all the other typical fixes such as validating my files in steam etc.
Also found some other fixes here such as uninstalling toolbars... no luck there either. spent the last 3 hours trying to fix this.

I think the reason you get directed to the front page of the forum when clicking external links directed to the specific thread is because of the recent forum change where they now have a different address . This should be the new link .

You might try looking in your Windows logs for any errors pertaining to witcher 2 . If nothing else then you can use the windows snip=it tool and take screenshots of your installed programs and email them to me and i`ll me more than glad to take a look at them .

Follow up

The only two changes/fixes that I've tried that are still applied to the game in one way or another are these two:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2837155
and
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2835946&page=2

I should also mention that i am running Windows 7 64-bit on this rig:
Nvidia GTX 680 (not overclocked)
16GB RAM (Corsair CL10 1600MHz Vengence LP)
Intel i5 4670k (not overclocked)
MSI G45 motherboard

EDIT: @Tommy Ah, didn't see your reply as i was making one of my own :p But sure! How do I use the snip=it tool and what is it? (I will try to figure it out) Is it just like any other screenshot tool? like Gyazo i used for my original post? Or is it something more helpful to you if you were to help me?

snip-it is a builtin windows version of a screenshot taking tool and is capable of taking the screenshot only of the area you want . It should be in All Programs>Accessories . Can`t really remember now since switching to 8 . But yeah Gyazo will work as well and just email me the links .

Have you tried a clean boot procedure to see if the game launches ?

Very strange . Are you importing a witcher 1 save ?
Have you tried running command prompt as administrator and type in this command sfc /scannow and press enter . Let it finish which won`t take long then restart computer and retry the game .

@Tommy No I've never played witcher 1. I did as you asked both on my C drive and the drive the game is installed on http://gyazo.com/10159953230de3c5b49499e0c23e1113
Still crashes... i really don't want to give up on this game :(

I don't know if this helps. But back in 2011 i played this game a bit. but I've never gone passed the first chapter though... but you are speaking of a witcher 1 saved game as if that would cause the crashes. could witcher 2 saves from like the steam cloud cause this? i don't even know if the steam cloud stores witcher 2 saves though...

It`s possible a corrupted save will cause crashing . But usually it would be a save you`re trying to load . You can try backing up your saves and then deleting them . Then restart the game . If your using Steam cloud or not then you can tell by right clicking Witcher 2 from your Library and select properties and in the updates tab look to the bottom . If Steam is using Cloud it will show how much is available .

@Tommy Seems like the steam cloud didn't have any saves
http://gyazo.com/df735b0a04809b18e138019691307353
Disabled it and started the game. crashes again.

Problem solved!

There was an Alienware related file named "LightFX.dll" that caused the crashing.

Thanks @Tommy for helping me!
