I will disagree with that. The politics of TW1 were good in that they portrayed the main thing going on being which is the Scoia'Tael vs Order conflict pretty well (as opposed to the plethora of things happening in TW2). But regional and international politics were very very small if non-existent (and most of what we see in that regard, like Fotlest and Radovid discussions, is more humorous than anything else).Gilrond said:I welcome more witcher work and less politics, but it doesn't mean no politics at all. TW1 had a good balance
Just out of mere curiosity; on what level do you believe TW2 was inspired by ASoIaF's plot?vivaxardas said:But a plot in TW2 is clearly inspired by ASoIaF.

It is in IGN preview. They tell that the Wild Hunt comes in flying ships. Personally I do not like flying ships, and I hope IGN, as usual, did not get it right. But who knows? But eventually it all depends on how it is done in the game.KnightofPhoenix said:Ok this is the second time I read "otherwordly flying ships."....what's the deal with that?
EDIT: agreed with cmdr and I say TW2 is in fact better than ASoIaF when it comes to portraying politics *pertinently* (not a criticism of ASoIaF, it's not deigned to be that political, politic is there to fuel character drama primarily).
Maybe it appears so since they're spectral.KnightofPhoenix said:....what?
You're serious? They are a cavalcade...they suddenly acquired the technology to build flying ships? What?
Sorry, it's been mentioned already in 2 or 3 previews and I thought everyone knows it. Silly of mecmdrsilverbolt said:And would be possible to include spoiler tags for details like this, I would have preferred to find out in-game about the flying ships :/
ASoIaF is the most famous Dark fantasy in existence, where everybody of importance dies or will eventually die (at least it feels like it). This entire approach - complicated plots, unexpected turns of events (Roche's men executed while feasting - RW everyone?), most important characters can die in different and not very appealing ways - it is not something you see in video games. So I am not saying that a story in TW2 is a re-telling of GOT, I am saying that the dark and twisted plot is inspired by a famous predecessor.Chewin3 said:Just out of mere curiosity; on what level do you believe TW2 was inspired by ASoIaF's plot?
You do realise the games are based on The Witcher novels, right?vivaxardas said:ASoIaF is the most famous Dark fantasy in existence, where everybody die. Hmm, I guess you can draw that comparison, but I wouldn't go as far as state that TW2 was inspired by the books. The Red Wedding for example can be compared to other similar historical events (The Black Dinner, The Glencoe Massacre to name a few). And important people dying isn't something "revolutionary" in fiction / media. Certainly, CDPR could very well have been influenced by the books (though more so in The Witcher ones), but as a whole I wouldn't draw that conclusion.vivaxardas said:ASoIaF is the most famous Dark fantasy in existence, where everybody die. Ugh, no thanks. I would like more monster hunting work and the focus on that, not the endless and sometimes tedious stream of politics. The Witcher 2 become a bore at certain points because it would take you away from the monster hunting and keep on forcing you into politics every moment.vivaxardas said:I feel that when they were making TW1, CDPR were not influenced by Matrin's ASoIaF at all. But a plot in TW2 is clearly inspired by ASoIaF. It is impressive that a story in TW2 is not just a plain copy, but on the same level. It would be such a shame if CDPR revert to TW1 approach. It seems to me that TW1 is close to the early books of the saga, which are more humorous, and do not even start to approach dark fantasy genre.
With the Lodge still not destroyed, nilfgaardians trying to win the war, northern kings ready to make land grab deals with Nilfgaard, a lot of opportunities for non-humans and other interested parties to carve their own state, and patriots fighting against invaders and looking for alliances, the situation in TW3 is actually even better suited for a strong political component in the story. To make it just a background for a personal search, and a fight with pure evil presented by otherworldly flying ships, would be a total waste.
Adanos, they shouldn't have mentioned flying ships. I feel like in a faery tale already.
