So I pre-ordered my copy of the Collector's Edition back on January 7th. Email and Receipt from Walmart to prove it. And today, three days from the W3 launch, I wake up to a Walmart Email reading, "Unfortunately, we have had to cancel your order, as we did not receive the expected merchandise from our supplier. . . We will be sending you a separate email within the next 5 business days with a $10 electronic gift card (per customer) to use on any future purchase."
When I pre-ordered, Walmart was the only available retailer at the time, but does that make me less valuable than others? Look I realize I'm just venting right now, but I had set aside $160+ for this game and all I get is sorry, the manufacturers, Walmart, somebody deemed you insignificant.
Has anyone else ran into Pre-order cancellations? Am I so new at this that I should have known to preorder last year? What's the honest reasoning here? Is there one?!

Tons of people. I saw at least 10 on reddit yesterday. I have no idea what's going on with CDPR and Walmart on the matter. I didn't pre-order from them but I wish you all the best of luck. That really sucks. I saw people that pre-ordered 8 months ago get theirs cancelled somehow. Ridiculous.
Just to make this clear - CDPR does not handle the retail distribution outside Poland. The retailers order from the distributors, who are responsible for the process of retail sales. If Walmart, or any other retailer has insufficient stock, the usual reason is because they accepted more pre-orders than the stock they had contracted to buy, the same way as airlines sell more seat tickets than there are seats.
Ah, true. So what typically happens in this situation? Is it possible for those that didn't get the CE due to ordering from Walmart could be guaranteed one later?
You have to take it up with Walmart or find an alternative source. I'm sorry I can't give you better hope than that, I really am.
I've no idea if the number of disappointed people is typical for a game release. The last few pages in this thread will show you it isn't just Walmart, it's happened with other retailers too, big and small, but the same names keep coming up over again. Maybe this always happens, maybe there's just been fewer cancellations this time than usual, so their calculations didn't work out. Neither of which is any consolation for you.

I initially ordered from EB Games, and the rep that I called yesterday Friday told me that it would be shipped the same afternoon; but I didn't get a confirmation email..
I also preordered from Amazon.com, but have yet to get a delivery confirmation...

Walmart.com cancelling CE pre-orders (CE questions too!)
So, back in November 2014 my lovely gf pre-ordered The Witcher 3 Collector's Edition (PC) for me. It was a little scarce at the time but she saw that walmart.com was still offering it and placed an order. Well, just 4 days before release we just received this email...
So now it looks like I'm completely screwed out of having a CE that I was actually very excited for (something I rarely purchase, only purchased 2 other CEs in my entire life: WarCraft 3 CE and Stick of Truth CE). Some googling is showing that this is happening to almost everyone who pre-ordered from them and it seems as though the (real) reasoning is that they over-sold the CE's that their purchase orders stated they would receive. (even though I pre-ordered over 7 months ago!!!!)
I'm (obviously) pretty upset about this and I realize that nothing can be done on CDPR's part, but I'm hoping that maybe someone on CDPR's end can tell me what actually happened here (or where I can go or who I can contact to possibly find out) as when I called Walmart.com the reps were stating that their computers claim the CE was "cancelled", I obviously called BS on this , they then tried to tell me that they just weren't receiving the CE at all and that it's the fault of the manufacturer (seems unlikely if they had a purchase order).
Lastly, does anyone know of ANY physical locale retailers who will be receiving the PC CE that doesn't normally take pre-orders on video games (ie: Target, maybe?). As I would try my best on Tuesday morning to get my CE, I'd even line up the night before and stand there for 12+ hours if need-be.
*sigh* This really blows guys, this was the first CE in YEARS that I was really looking forward to (Stick of Truth's CE was a spur-of-the-moment thing since I'm a huge South Park nerd ).

Bummer. Unfortunately, when orders exceed actual supply, the merchants go on allocation, meaning they get fewer units than they ordered, or none at all, and for a limited item like the CE, there is no practical recourse.
Wal-Mart has been doing this a lot, and Witcher 3 CE customers are not the only victims.
Wal-Mart's relationship is with the distributor, Warner Interactive, not CDPR, anyway, so CDPR has practically zero say in this clusterfuck.

I know CDPR/Warner Bros. set the amount of CEs being made for each platform a loooong time ago so it seems highly likely that Walmart knew how many they'd receive from the get-go but continued taking orders anyway. I'm also aware that they've been doing this a lot (after this happened I did some research and it seems like it's occurred at walmart.com with virtually every major release in gaming over the past 2-3 years which is just absolutely despicable).
Do you think Warner Bros Interactive support would know and/or be able to tell me what retailers are receiving the PC CE? I'm hoping to find a retailer that didn't sell preorders (I know Target didn't)... And if you buy the console version, you could always sell the game itself and keep the goodies, that would help cover the extra cost of having to buy a second copy to play.
I finally managed to order a version from a guy who was re-selling his version over Amazon. I contacted him and we agreed on a price. He send me an invoice over Paypal and I paid him. Now I hope that he get's his copy cause I do not know where he bought his. I preorder games and CE's in particular for many years now. You could call me a hardcore gaming nerd and since I have almost always had a job in my live I have the financial means to buy almost all games that interest me. But this preorder disaster is something I never experienced before.
Sorry to hear that Walmart seems to screw it's customers almost intentionally by knowingly taking more orders then the have stock. One thing is for sure I will never ever order from game.co.uk again (the ones who cancelled my preorder) and stick to my other preorder sources again.
For all who can afford it and are willing to haggle about the price, try Ebay and Amazon. Contact the sellers and try to get a sligtly more reasonable price out of them. I paid 220 € for my CE which is way to overpriced but damn I got the CE of the other Witcher games too and I was so upset about the cancelled preorder that I accepted the price. It was no easy decision and it will rip a small whole in my bank account but I think the CE's worth it. Problem is there are people out there who sell for even more then the 220€ I saw Ebay auctions end with prices over 260 €. They should limit CE's like that to one per person. Sure you could still buy more if you preorder at multiple onlineshops but that way you at least have to place multiple orders and in different countrys too to get more then one edition instead of just setting the shopping basket number higher.
I've got my fingers crossed that my copy will be delivered as promised and wish all of you who suffered from similar preorder cancellations that they might get a copy over other channels.

Yes, that's my plan! (to resell the console game and using the money to re-buy it on PC if I have to "settle" for a console version CE lol)
I went ahead and contacted Warner, explaining the situation as best I could. Hopefully they reply to me before Tuesday, the 19th. *fingers crossed*
I don't expect them to be able to sell me a CE since I'm sure they're all gone, but I do hope they can point me in the right direction to find a retailer who may have them.

I was able to get a PC version while it was still in stock. Was in such a haste I didn't even look at shipping lol. Just bought the mofo as fast as possible. Unfortunately won't be here until Thursday now, but better than never or $100 over msrp. Suck it ebay gougers, and F**K you Walmart
