The Witcher 3: Downgrade Discussion

Considering the original downgrade thread was shut down because the visuals thread was to be used. But as the visuals thread has also been locked for apparent "off topic" discussion, I thought I'd make a thread specifically for discussions and opinion sharing of the change in visual quality, and art direction experienced by the game through its development.

DISCLAIMER: The topic of this thread is the discussion of the change in visuals, the apparent downgrade, any speculation for why the developers may have changed the visual/graphical quality of the game.

oh boy, here we go again...I feel sorry for the moderators that will have to babysit this thread until it reaches 200 pages and collapses on its own like the previous three...

Seems obvious to me....they simply couldn't do it because of consoles. Platform parity/console parity does exist because it makes financial and logical sense. They actually addressed it before in an interview with

http://www.gamepressure.com/e.asp?ID=51 - with an interview with CDPR Managing Director

I think so. It is impossible to make a game for three different platforms that will utilize all of the various platforms’ unique features and specs. It’s a technical fact. Making an exclusive title allows to squeeze more out of the target device. Platform unification exists – we have a single build, which is distributed to each one of them. The game is the same; the draw distance is the same. Minor differences result from the fact that the GPU has different parameters on different consoles, which can result in, e.g., the changes in color temperatures.

Consoles did this. They simply cannot have a version looking so superior that "Next-Gen" consoles look horrid in comparison and mainstream realities are shattered in a debauchery of salty fanboy cheapskate tears.

I have played the PC version at their hands-on poland event and can confirm in reality ULTRA on PC looks nothing like the VGX / initial trailers but it is what it is. I just wish CDPR did not say "there is no downgrade." They're pulling a Watch Dogs Jonathan Morin in claiming Watch Dogs "looks better than E3 2012" when it looked like a PS2 game.

EDIT: I should know better - the devs cannot openly state things have been nuked or they may face legal ramifications by marketing console makers Sony/Microsoft as well. I guess having to lie and deceive is part of the contract. I also find it rather convenient mods locked the visuals topic...so close to release. Almost ....as if it was intended and not because it was "off-topic"

Can everyone stop using the 2013 footage as evidence. Seriously this is getting ridiculous. The 2013 trailers were from a completely different build that was likely not even in-engine game-play.

Then they should stop false advertising practices and stop putting "IN-GAME FOOTAGE" at the beginning. In-game footage can mean cutscenes or gameplay. They should be more clear - like "In-game cutscenes only" or something of this nature.
