the witcher 3 fps warm up

Hi,

So I finished the witcher 2 yesterday (Great game!), and am now figuring what settings to use on the witcher 3.

One thing I've noticed trying to figure this out, is that whenever I load a game there is about a minute or two period where the fps is 10-15 lower. Then it will, all of sudden, increase (and remain higher). I have tested this just loading the game and standing still for a minute or two. Not a massive deal, but I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this, and if there is any way around it?

Specs - 980 SLI, 5820k, 16GB.

Also - the screen saver will pop up during longer cutscenes. Again, not a massive deal, as I can just turn it off everytime I want to play, but is there a work-around for this?

Thanks

Move the mose (I'm using a controller, but recently I had to use mouse+keyb for an hour or so, and I've noticed, you can tilt the camera slightly with your mouse during cutscenes, cool ;) ), press ctrl key or move your controller stick during those scenes. Alternatively, change the screensaver activation time in windows settings to a higher value.

As for the first issue. For me it takes just few seconds and the difference isn't anywhere near yours (2-5 fps). I'm on a single gtx970.

There may be some stutter when the program is first loading new areas, but you should not see a steady decrease in FPS. When you move or look around, are you getting noticeable jerkiness or slower overall draw rates?

Set screen saver about 10 minutes, this solve the problem

I would turn you're screensaver off. They are resource hogs, and always known for installing viruses. I much prefer setting up a slideshow, there are all kids of theme's available through Windows, doesn't use any resources, really.

If done some more investigation, and its weird; in this one spot, when the game first loads up, the fps will be about 60 fps and gpu usage will be about 80%, then if I go into the settings and change the display mode from fullscreen to windowed borderless, then back to fullscreen, the fps will jump to about 80fps (without moving the camera), and gpu usage will be 95+%. Then I'll move around a bit and the fps will drop down to 60 and below, gpu usage about 80%. Sometimes alt-tabbing in and out, after this, is enough to get it to jump back up to 80fps.

Is anyone else with SLI able to test this on their pc's? Just change from fullscreen to windowed borderless, then back to fullscreen and see if your fps jumps massively?

I was using the latest drivers from nvidia, but have also tried the previous two, to no avail.

Edit: I've just noticed that the switching of display mode and alt-tabbing isn't actually neccessary. If I just remain in the same spot for 20 seconds or so, then move the camera slightly gpu usage and fps will shoot up and remain so until I start moving around again.

In case anyone else has a similar issue with SLI, I found that 2) from these installation instructions did the trick (the rest are for surround and 3d vision I think):

http://helixmod.blogspot.co.uk/2015/06/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt.html

Gpu usage went from 80 to 95+, and fps from 60 to 80.

FYI - all you really need is the sli compatibility bit contained within the profile, which is 0x780020F5. Also, make sure that physx processor is set to auto-select in the nvidia control panel. I was getting gpu usage and fps drops in cutscenes otherwise.
