The Witcher 3 gameplay designers leave to join indie mobile studio

Just saw this come up in my feed. Hoping it isn't much to worry about.

Wishing Marek Ziemak and Maciej Szczesnik godspeed in their new endeavors.

Too bad, I always liked these guys, especially Marek was a lot in front of the camera and seemed like a cool guy. But I wouldn't worry about TW3 at all, if a 2014 release is still what they aim for, their job most likely is done. Still, it's sad that they won't work on future projects, anymore.

Cheers to Marek and Maciej and good luck for their future!

Eh, I guess that's what 7 years of working on the same franchise do to you.

11 bit studios is quite successful though with their Anomaly series, so I hope Marek and Maciej contribute to even bigger success. Good luck to them!

: ( Marek is a great guy, very passionate about The Witcher games in front of cameras. Lots of great interviews with him from E3. I didn't see that much of Maciej, I read couple of interviews with him though.

It's kinda strange to see Lead Gameplay Designer depart before the game is released. Maybe it's a sign that the core game is finished and all that remains is polishing. Who knows ? I understand if they wanted to try something new and gain experience in areas that CDPR couldn't provide them with. Thanks for your work, guys, and good luck !

I met Marek at BGS here in Brazil, he was presenting the Witcher 3 demo, a really nice guy. Good luck :D

Changes in Witcher 3's dev team

http://www.vg247.com/2014/02/06/witcher-3-developers-leave-cd-projekt-red-for-indie-team/

http://www.polygon.com/2014/2/6/5385384/the-witcher-3-gameplay-designers-leave-to-join-indie-mobile-studio

As you can see from these latest articles it seems that two Witcher 3's gameplay designers have left the team in order to join some indie dev studio I personally have never heared of.

Now from what we know Witcher 3 is almost feature and content complete and only thing left is hell a lot of optimisation, balancing gameplay and porting to consoles.

But still their departure does make me wonder.......:hmm:

Why would 2 game developers (if someone can tell me were they important for previous Witcher design I would be gratefull) leave CD Projekt cause we all know that CD Projekt is neither EA,Ubisoft,Bughtesa or Bioware.....they make very little compromise when it comes to quality of their games.

So.....it hardly has to do with them not getting enough room for their creativity to kick in (or does it ?) and also I guess their wages would be much lesser in new indie studio.

Now maybe they finished their work on Witcher 3 and maybe they weren't that important for the whole process and they just wanted a little bit more responsibility and that's just it.

Or maybe (and I hate being doomsayer and I have to say this is really far fetched) they disagreed with some of the company's decision and decided to leave.Maybe they were working on stealth and VATS and we know that for now stealth has been droped and VATS has been reduced (which isn't bad thing because it shouldn't be only option for fighting, hell no,but also IMO it shouldn't be watered down cause it really sounded awesome from Angry Joe's interview).

I know that it doesn't work like that in industry and that if some of your projects doesn't pass it's no reason for you to just quit and for all we don't know this all could very well be just wild speculation and guys just wanted to experience something new because their work on Witcher 3 is done.

It would be really nice if someone from devs could comment and tell us does this in any way or form influence team's ability to finish Witcher 3 on time and does this maybe mean that some drastic or any unplanned changes to development have been made and that maybe that influenced their decision ?

I hope it's neither of those things and that guys just felt like trying something new and taking different project.

This doesn't sound too good to me. The game still is quite far from its release date (whatever it may be).

Marek Ziemak did great job with PR at e3 and other interviews. He is charismatic and can speak perfect english. Too bad for cdpr, they lost some talented people.

Whatever their jobs were for the witcher 3 I'm sure was it was completed before they left. Otherwise I'm sure we would have heard something about a court case. You can't just up and leave while developing a game, you sign contracts and whatnot preventing that sort of thing from happening.

I think that it would be good to have an official word on it from CDPR itself to let us know what really happened. Of course, only if they wanted to and if it wouldn´t be much intimate.

Yet people will still want to have more Witcher games after 3 is out. It is clear that working on same franchise for so long takes its toll.

I wouldn´t see much problem in that because develepors already said game is pretty much completed and they just have to do finishing work(engine optimalization, bugs, translations, corrections, balance). I dont´t think there is much to worry about(unless some bigger drama comes out right after this-hopefully not). Good luck in your next carrier guys. I am sure you did a good job there.

They even didn't wait for GOLD status of The Witcher 3 and release date. It is weird, they spent a lot of time working on TW3 and now they left CDPR just before the end.

I recon they had to get 11 Bit Studios to scratch.

Best of luck to them both...really.

I am sure after working so many years for CDPR the depature was hard AND easy at the same time :D
And I am certain they sorted out "their stuff" before they departed or left it in capable hands to the satisfaction of CDPR.
Like others said, you cannot just "walk" away from a contract without both parties agreeing or doing your part of the deal 100%.

Good luck to them, I think the possiblity to create your OWN, original game was a big draw to the new studio :D

Hm.... makes me curious what happend there....
and it worrys me a bit to when Devs leaving the team even before gold is reached.... hm...

Well i am sure they have there reasons, only hope its not because trouble is between the Woman and Man at CDPR...
nothing worse than "bad climate" at work and in a team... or even worse financial problems again.

Lets wait if we get some infos about that, rly hope it won t effect the work at TW3.

Of course all good on future ways for both of them ;)

So long
