It looks good though. Better than Skyrim mountains and snow imo.

Only if its real ofc.

Are you certain that it isn't photoshoped? There are some things that are out of place. It looks like shadows aren't cast on Geralt at all.

It's not a photoshop, it's old version of REDkit presentation...

You have more of those or a source? Never saw them and they look great already.

By "those" if you mean screenshots etc then I have a whole thread dedicated to that.

Let's keep this discussion about the hud only we're going offtopic. If you want to talk about screenshots go to the thread I linked above.

I am definitely pro having a map, that is visually taken out and held in Geralst hands. (Also a book with the monsters, where Geralt can go through the pages.)

I agree, it would be cool to have an animation for the map and bestiary, although I hope they leave the minimap as it is on the screeshot, but maybe give the option of choosing which corner to put it on( though they probably wont).
I still vote to make health and vigor bars encircle the medallion like gta and dissapear when idle, and the sign display to be next to the medallion too.
Is anyone else bothered by the orange health bar?
Ps: I know the HUD in the screenshot is probably very old and the final one will probably be very different, but since its the only actual reference we have I'm going with it.

I prefer artistic HUD from the first Witcher. It dares to be different.

The ability to fade off the HUD while not in combat and other similar effects is most likely gonna end up in the game either by the devs or by the modders, so i dont care much about it.

What i want though, is that from an artistic point of view, they get rid of all that super modern videogamey designs for health bars and other such things, which i already hated in TW2.

The HUD should still be as minimal as possible though, but while allowing you to check every single thing that requires you to stay vigilant most of the times, simplification to the point where you have to go into a menu for checking regular and often common things going on is terrible.

And one final little thing, CDPRED could you guys please experiment with all HUD elements on the lower side of the screen instead of above? its well known that having displays in the upper part of the screen gives the sensation of being restrained, like the ceiling does in a indoors environment, not just in games though, but hats for example also do it in real life when you use them. Having the HUD the way it is now increases the feeling of being locked and constrained to what you have between the HUD and the floor/terrain, and for a game with plenty of exploration and hopefully immersion this is a detrimental feature.

On the other hand, the top is the place where you will be looking most often and then the left part. That is, why often the most important parts can be found there. Though I wouldn't mind the experimentation to be honest. Greatest would be mabe 2 or 3 presets with customizability. :)

yeah but isn't that another reason then to not put the HUD in the upper section? if we are most often looking there, then I'd prefer the HUD to not get in the way of me seeing the game, after all, we can change what we have in the upper part of the screen in the game world by moving the camera, but we cant move around the HUD unfortunately.

To me personally the HUD is a thing that most moments of the game it shouldn't exist and become apparent only when i need to get feedback from it.

I'd love some presets for customizability, and the ideal state perhaps is like the one in Wasteland 2, where many windows and info can be dragged with the mouse where you like, but yeah I'm not expecting them to do that :p

I don't mind the hud at all, but that red health bar is a little bigger than I'd like.

Imo the TW2 mini Map looked really good. The problem was, that it was a irritating cause it had that medival art-style.

Also it was broken. The destination icons for missions were wrong often. They were placed on wrong locations.

All maps in TW2 needed so much improvement. The main map was pretty frustrating to navigate even if it looked really pretty.

I miss TW1 medallion that vibrated repeatedly when monsters were near, hope that the one in TW3 will be similar to the old TW1 one.

When you get old enough to need bifocals, you'll develop an appreciation for user interface layouts that present detailed information below the visual center.
:look:

Seriously, I agree that user-placeable is ideal, but in its absence, I dislike top-of-screen, and I like the bottom-of-screen suggestion. Because bottom-of-screen is more likely to obscure in-game detail, though, it should auto-fade or auto-hide when not called up.

Since majority of people here would like a non-intrusive HUD, wouldn't it be nice if Geralt had an option to ask villagers/passers-by for directions and POI-s and not always rely on the map.

Well...It would be nice to have certain routes on the map only if we ask info to the villagers first

I'm assuming/hoping that this will be part of the natural "gating" to stop you going to some areas too soon.

I hope this too.
For example, you wouldn't want to go to the hellish swamps too soon, right?
