Since majority of people here would like a non-intrusive HUD, wouldn't it be nice if Geralt had an option to ask villagers/passers-by for directions and POI-s and not always rely on the map.

And wouldn't it be nice to walk up to a villager/passer-by and not have a stupid button icon pop up just to talk to them that says talk after we already know what button to push.CDPR please Let us explore and talk to who we want to, without every ones name floating above their heads..

I could agree on a compromise, that names only show up, after we have talked to the person once and learned their name, or if irrelevant their occupation.

I still think we should be able to turn it off at least.

Real life -> Video game equivalent

You know you need to go to a certain place, You don't know where it is. Others do. -> You can ask NPC's, and then it goes on the map.
You need to find a certain place. You don't know where it is, there's nobody around who does -> You need to look for it. No map pointer.
You don't know where you need to go -> You need to ask around, find clues.

Same with people. If you need to find a certain person, and it would be reasonable for another NPC to have given you a description of what he looks like, then it's OK to have a pointer once he's in line of sight, or a map pointer if your guide told you where to find him. Otherwise, you need to look around or ask others where you can find the person concerned.

And quest givers? If someone has work for a witcher, it's reasonable for them to call out to you, attract your attention, if you get close. But no, no dirty great glowing light over their head.

Yes, that! I'm honestly good with whatever: compass, day and night cycle 'clock' like @nucta said, buying maps like @B l a d y who referenced to Gothic mentioned, and what have you. But making it a player choice is always a great idea! :victory:

Yeah please cut out those dirty great glowing lights above everyones head. I do not want to see another glowing area of interest in this game either. Such as..herbs, cliffs to climb, bodies to loot, or furniture to search etc..etc.. Especially after a tutorial. Every tutorial should be a first and last at best. The only time I want to see anything glowing like herbs or blood trails etc.. Is when I look through my witcher sense mode. I don't even want the glowing visual effects to linger in my view of sight after witcher mode is clicked off. I either use witcher sense mode or I won't be able to see it with the naked eye. Maybe have a color system in the eyes of witcher sense only. Where only herbs glow green, and blood trails glow like they did in TW2. Maybe have magic areas like a healing spring/camp/rest spot that will glow blue. But only after you have found one on the map, you get the idea. Anyways.. just make it more natural and seamless. Hell you could have dark black areas that might even indicate monsters, but I think the medallion is better for that hand in hand. Also let us hunt them down by sound alone but only some times. The key is to not really over do one thing, unless it is really fun and never gets old. ;)

I actually think, you have a good idea there. Instead of having something glowing, if it is necessary, you could use the senses mechanic to just have everything black and white, except for the points of interest. that would make it a bit better. (If we need to have points of interes markers at all...)

Even though I don't want the markers, I would like the option for them to show up. For the third playthrough, when I'm in completionist mode and perfectly happy for the game to tell me everything I've missed in earlier playthroughs.

Off topic, I will go ahead and ask (even if it has already been asked or its obvious as Ves's posterior): Is the "vanilla showcase TW3 set" the Oathbreakers set?

Guys, I don't think you should post these "HUD-pictures" here. They were never officially released to be posted in public forums, but part of a tutorial about lighting and area environments in the closed Redkit beta. So the lighting and landscape look "bad" simply because those pictures showed different light settings and not the current state of the game. When the open beta started I deleted those pictures, but it seems like someone saved and released them.

I miss TW1 medallion that vibrated repeatedly when monsters were near, hope that the one in TW3 will be similar to the old TW1 one.

Yep, that would be very nice, I missed that so much in TW2.

Overall, from what I've seen from leaked stuff, the HUD looks similar to TW2.
I do not have an issue with that, I liked the TW2 hud, however i think that TW1 with minimalistic HUD-mod does it a bit better.

When it comes to maps, apart from the fact that the TW2 art-styled maps were perfectly readable for me, I'd love to see the buying maps mechanic.
It worked very well in Gothic 1/2, and is actually immersive because it makes sense. Geralt isn't a cartographer, basically.

I still think hub should disappear when you are not in combat, friendly towns etc.

No need for mini map just some sort of "horizontal compass line" in the corner of the screen just like in Skyrim...

Just the middle part?

maybe NO map on the hub at all?

Ground Zeroes has good system, Geralt could pull out quickly small map and sneak peak on local already discovered environment?

If we even have a HUD, I think it should only been seen when Geralt draws his sword or gets attacked by something. I think it would be stupid if it pops up every time there is a threat in the area, because it would be a dead give away. It should only pop up once hit or in combat. If we want to see our stats and HUD, let us pause and look at it or give us the option to turn it back On & Off.

i.e ON/OFF Console Options For HUD.

Op 1. Full HUD, quest text & map always on.

Op 2. A Minamul Fading HUD with no quest text. The life bar HUD will only show up while in combat,
but once in combat the map will also drop out of site and back on again after combat.
If we want to see our map or life bar, we can simply find it in the in game pause menu.

Op 3. No HUD No Nothing=Hard Core.

I would totally play with all of these options from time to time,
just so long as I can turn them On & Off whenever I want through the in game pause menu.

Op 2 would be pretty bad ass tho if it was standard.
;)

Hey everyone.
So today I came across some supposedly leaked gameplay footage of TW3 that I'm sure most of you have already seen, and even though I know its a very early version, the thing that caught my eye the most was the HUD, it looked a lot like TW2 HUD(probably because Its a recycled version of it used in the early build for place holding), nonetheless it got me wondering where do the Forum Members stand on this matter, what do you think the HUD should look like?
Ps: At this stage in development I think they have plenty of time to put our thoughts into consideration.

My opinion:To me the least stuff on the screen the better, the one I saw in the video was a little too flashy for my taste, there was the medallion on the top left corner with the health bar(which was orange) to the right (like in TW2) and it had the quest objectives on the middle right side of the screen(like in TW2 as well).
I particularly would vote for having the medallion on the top left corner and having the health bar and other useful info like buffs and debuffs be displayed as a circle around the medallion(kinda like gta does with the map) and for the health bar to be dark red with the blood effect, just like the 3 in the tittle logo, and everything around the medallion (except the medallion itself) could disappear until we took damage like in skyrim, so when we were exploring we would have just the medallion on the screen.
I'd also lik the option to turn off the quest objective text (cant remember if they already have that in TW2) and I wouldn't mind the minimap to have the remove option as well.
thanks for reading, cheers to all

I agree that less is usually better. I used a mod from the Nexus for Witcher 2 that modified the hud, I believe it was called Dynamic hud. Yup, here it is - http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher2/mods/276/?

While out of combat the only thing visible on screen is the mini-map.You can bring everything back via the quick menu and when you enter combat the rest of the hud will appear. I highly recommend it for players who prefer minimal amount of clutter on screen. Great for when I take screenshots.

If I had my way, I'd love to have a hud/UI that was similar to Witcher 1. What I wish was in a majority of games - Adjustable UI/Hud options. transparency toggle, option to move items around and on/off.

I've been recently playing through Alan Wake with the hud off and it has been awesome. It has greatly increased my immersion and the games atmosphere ten fold.

Option or slider in the settings menu 1-100 to make hub or just things like compass transparent.
