The Witcher 3 - Igni Screenshot Concern

I am not sure if I'm the only one that's seeing this. But I have a feeling that the flame and sparks particles are way too bright and none-fire like. I liked the particles used in Witcher 2. I am sure that this is going to be improved upon - however what is concerning is the fact that they released the screenshot as a promotion on the main page - you dont do that until you want to showcase something near final, even if only a render.

So can someone confirm that this is going to revert back to the beautiful tru-flame particles we saw in witcher 2?

At this moment I doubt anyone can confirm anything other than CD RED themselves... As for all what we know the game is still very much in alpha. Normally you make mechanics works at first and then gradually tweak animations and smaller visual closer to the release date.

I wouldn't worry that much about it though as the game still have close to a year before even being released so don't take anything that's been posted yet as a measurment of the final product... Just look on how much have changed from TW 2 early alpha screenshot compared to the final product.

In terms of why they posted it, it's mainly PR and I don't see a problem in that they've used it on their homepage while the product itself isn't closed to be released. A lot of games add promo and teaser trailers before you even get to see the actual gameplay so again I feel like you are making a little bit too much fuss about something very minor.

Because they also have an updated engine it will probably not look 100% identical to TW 2 animations however if you think back on the amount of time they've spent with Geralts face in TW 2, you can at the very least be relieved that if consumers believes that Igni feels "off" in the game, CD RED will change it.

Finally never underestimate our very skillfull modders, which in worst case scenario can probably change the visual if some of the final products visuals don't live up to your expectations.

They are still in the process of adding PhysX to the game from what I understand, once they do those particles will look much better.

This is closer to what igniii looked like in TW1, a jet of sparks and flame. Personally I like it.

I don't considering the overpowered nature of it in TW1. I really hope we DO NOT see that again.

Yes it looks like it is fire + some sort of magic (like burning hot needles along the fire are cast). I hope they change it to something more natural.

What's natural? Have you seen magic IRL :D I quite like the exuberance of the effect in the image, I am okay with it.

You know, the Igni in the Screenshot is a lot what it looked like in TW1's opening cinematic, the fight against the Striga.

I don't want to see as a jet of flames rises Geralt's hand like a dragon's mouth. A blast of energy that just by touching incinerating the target sounds magically more real.

I was just about to post the same; it reminds me more of how it behaved and looked like in TW1, and that is a good thing in my mind.

I think this is better then that fireball in The Witcher 2. It looks more like igni now.

Could you give a source for that, please? I didn't know they were going with Physx instead of Havok. Didn't seem likely of them.

Physx has been confirmed, but CDPR has not yet clarified if they'll use GPU-acceleration.
I googled it for you http://lmgtfy.com/?q=The+Witcher+3+PhysX

I much prefer Igni's new look to the one in TW2. As other people have pointed out, it reminds me of the Igni sign from the first game.

@Costin We're talking about how it looks, not how powerful it's going to be. I agree though that Igni in TW1 was OP.

I'm just talking aesthetics. We can only speculate as to how effective it will be in the game.
