The Witcher 3 In Development?

Just saw the news that it said The Witcher 3 is in development:
http://thenexusnews.com/the-witcher-3-in-development-and-more-on-the-release-date/853239/

Usually I call these type of news BS, but after doing a little investigating I found out that they were the same guys who published the Prometheus 2 In Development news and it tuned out to be spot on, so at this point I am inclined to believe it.

The news also does make sense, I mean the plot they described is expected. I post a snippet for ease of use:

The first plot will involve the main events of the story which would revolve around the invasion of the Northern Kingdoms by the Nilfgaard, and it would also involve meeting the emperor himself (which was only mentioned in the two previous games).

The second sub-plot would be the big reveal of Geralt’s contract with the Wild hunt and the Elves of the other world which would lead to climactic discovery. However to avoid any spoilers we will not reveal it in this post.

The third sub-plot and perhaps the most anticipated, is the search and rescue of Yennefer (The closest person Geralt has to a wife). It is an equivalent of The Witcher 2′s quest titled “Where is Triss Merigold”, however the twist is that Yennefer (due to memory loss) would not want to be rescued.

Other than that, the Namco Bandai thing was rather amusing :D.

Anyway, I always thought that the Dev team was working on another DLC? I saw Angry Joes interviews and there was picuture of geralt saving something similar to christmass, so I assumed that would be the next big thing. But if not, then it would make more sense to work on the next big title, which would be The Witcher 3.

So what is your take on this? Not the news, but the fact that the game is in development (or at least early stages of it) and that it might be released on 2014?

What the fuck? You're telling me I have to wait potentially 2 years for my Witcher fix :S I'll fucking kill myself before that time! DAMN YOU RED!

Alright, I'm getting a little hysterical here. Was looking at clips from TW2 a couple of hours ago and seeing them just made me feel pure love from the depths of my soul. This is what games should be about. Emotional investment, well developed characters, rich lore, intriguing plots. The fact that Red presents this all so well, with incredible voice actors while at the same time taking the player serious, treating him as an adult, is just oh... so fucking refreshing. Thanks Red.

I'll gladly wait 10 years for the next game. Ok maybe not, who knows what'll happen in 10 years, I might be dead by then. But you get the sentiment! :p

Yeah the leaked plot synopsis does match the hints the second game was dropping pretty well. Hopefully it'll come out in 2013. I'm predicting it'll be one of those games that kicks off the next generation of gaming consoles so here's to hoping.

And cheers for the update :)

TRUST ME, you would want them to take their time. Remember Dragon Age 2! The game was developed in less than 15 effective months! some rumors even indicated that the game took only a year to develop! and look at the results! DA2 was perhaps the WORST RPG of the year that had well funding. From Origins to II! they took a high fall! we dont want history to repeat itself.

SO CDPR!! if your there! take your time, and make something perfect! DONT RUSH IT!

Even if every word was invented, it sounds pretty plausible.

BTW: Dragon Age 2 wasn't a bad game because of a lack of time. It has more to do with design decisions made by Bioware. Despite that the game is pretty good. Even a bad Bioware RPG is an awesome game!

Agreed, +1 for you :)

If there was only a news on the multiplayer thing, i know they said its way too soon, but for instance Dragon Age 3 has decided to implement multiplyer in form of wars, similar to mass effect 3. I was thinking the other night that if it were to be implemented in withcer it would be like war scenarios of the Northern Kingdoms fighting with the Nilfgaard, similar to how mount and blade works only there would be mages and supernaturals (elves, dwarfs, weres, etc . . . )

and the arena fights would be one on one, you could pick you class, and level up from there, what you would do would have no effect on the game itself, nor any of the characters would be geralt, it would only be for fun.

Just like ME3 . . . oh, wait! . . . nevermind then! forget what I said.

In case I wasn't clear in my last post:

A YEAR AGO, the SAME SITE published a similar article about TW3 and it's supposed release date.

Basing the info on a misinterpreted interview from 2010.

Dude! I think your just confirming the news's plausibility. the article was posted before the Enhanced Edition, and it was dead on right about the details that we later on discovered in the EE . . . so? whats the problem again?

Sorry, had to do a little reading. From what I understood, the war was never confirmed to be the main focus of the sequel (I know it still isn't) but from the EE it did give stronger vibes that it could actually be the main thing, which I remember reading somewhere in N4G that someone from CDPR did confirm something like this.

Again, I don't understand your animosity towards the news, I for one am very happy, even if it is just a rumor. I should be playing BL2 right now :p

But this isn't exactly dejavu right? I mean i am not posting the same link, and the contents do seem to concentrate on different things, anyway, I only found the namco Bandai thing pretty amusing! I still hate them for not properly funding Hellgate. So any news that pokes at them does make me smile :) even though this article did in the end said they aren't at fault. Which I selectively ignored :p

I don't mind waiting if they'll release the native Linux version of the Witcher 3 :)

Anyone who finished the Witcher 2, should already know these.
Not really insider info or anything, revealed.
Still, I guess, we should be grateful for the post. Some people might've found it useful.

Well, as the OP pointed out, the potential plot described is exactly what we would expect given the ending of TW2. I'm not really sure how that is considered news.

As for TW3 being in development, so far there hasn't been an official announcement but the CDPR site does mention a "dark fantasy RPG" which is practically certain to be TW3. 2014 seems plausible since they probably won't be making a whole new engine, so it probably won't take as long to make TW3 as it did for TW2. I don't think they're working on more DLC. The mod kit is in beta, and mod kits are pretty involved for devs and they've spent well over a year working on DLC, the 360 version, etc. I would think that at some point they would want to move on to TW3 so that it can get done in a reasonable time. As much as I love CDPR for the dedication they've shown for this game via free DLC and updates, I think it would be better for them to focus on the next game.

Although I really wanted a new DLC, now that the tools are released there can be a lot of mods that can entirely change the game. Last night I did a little digging on the files and realized that you can practically change EVERYTHING about the game, not only make maps but even go as far as replace Geralth with Triss, I also find it plausible to even use Triss's magical abilities. This can for instance create a companion mode where you could play as different characters in game - although its not lore friendly, it is still just a possibility. Hopefully people will be able to do much more than that :)

So, you're in the REDkit beta? I just have to know if it's possible to replace the UI.
