The Witcher 3 - Kepler GPU

gtx 960=gtx 780
gtx 970>gtx 780ti
what's going on here ?
how is this possible ?
nvidia is deliberately downgrading kepler gpu's performance in favor of maxwell using driver or poor optimization game under 700 card by cdprojektred ?
I read the forums, and I'm in shock

We discovered a couple of issues in regards to Kepler GPUs and are working on driver updates.

response nvidia from technical support
Hello Cub,

Please accept my apologies for the confusion.

We are aware of this issue and NVIDIA engineering team is currently working on it. I will also have this case escalated to our Level 2 Technical Support group for further attention.

I'm a 700 series user, I have 2xGTX 770 OC 4GB. The performance is horrible with this setup, it has to be fixed quickly by CDProjekt or NVIDIA. Don't forget that the recommended settings for this game is a 770!!!

This is true , i'm a 780 GTX asus direct CU II OC Edition user , and when i see cards of AMD that should be equivalent to me or lower ( 280 , 270 ) getting better FPS than me , then something is not right here , with nvidia we pay premium , and the ONLY reason i do it is because of drivers and optimizations for games , if i wont be getting those then when 390x release ( btw it's next month when they will announce it ) , then i will convert to amd as driver & heat are their most common flaws

I Suppose this is something made by nvidia for sometime as they think it will increase maxwell's sales , but no it wont , people are not fool , everyone knows the difference between cards does not account for that much difference in performance , those 700 cards ( 780 & 780 ti are just 1 or 1.5 year old , they were the last FLAGSHIPS !!! )

Also another thing , i benchmarked the game , with 780 , 16 GB Ram & 4690 i5 cpu ( nothing OC'ed ) , the results are strange : [ 1080p ]
1 - ALL Ultra/on with gameworks : FPS goes 30 in steady placed , and drops in some populated areas , and there is this , like spikes in fps here and there
2 - ALL Ultra/On without gameworks & foliage distance high instead of ultra : the game jumps to min 40 FPS , max 53 FPS , with average 43 or 44 , cant remember the exact number but at the MIN 40 it aint bad
3 - ALL Ultra/On without gameworks & foliage distance lowest : steady 60 fps

from what i see , the hairworks is a big problem , i can set foliage distance to high and get 50 FPS , or ultra with 35 or even 40 in some places - which is playable - , but to put a setting like hairworks .... it felt as if it's pulling my GPU performance down

EDIT : forgot to say that when i compare those results with AMD cards , the ONLY setting i get equivalent to them is when i disable gameworks and make foliage medium , which they do not need to get the 45 - 50 +++ fps .... nvidia is clearly playing with fire here , and it wont do them good !!!

I'm a GTX 780 user too (EVGA 780 SC ACX 2.0) and I'm totally with the OP. There is definitely something weird going on. It is more than just a fail for people who buyed a card that expensive (in my case > 600 €). In fact I bought the card only for The Witcher 3 and the performance I have now is really disappointing...

But honestly, I do not think CDPR can optimize their game for a certain GPU generation of a certain vendor. That's all up to nvidia and their drivers.

tell me acceptable to have 35-40 frames per second on flagship graphics card for $ 700 through a year a half after its release in the usual Full HD if 970(~400$) faster on The Witcher 3

I am also experience this on an EVGA reference 780. I am running with 16gb ram and a 4770k so I cannot be told there is any magical bottleneck. It is clearly intentional.

EVGA GTX 770 SC ACX (2GB) high 70 degrees Celcius capped 40FR
EVGA GTX 970 ACX (4GB/3.5GB effective) low 60's Celcius with 60FR

Both have similar settings you could argue that the 970 has a more streamlined architecture but i think it's really weird.

I am getting very poor performance on a gtx 760. It's not just the fps, the game is really slow/laggy. It's un-playable.

Can we please get a dev to even say they know about this or not?

I dont know for sure but the problem should be Nvidia and not CDP.
It would help if everyone with a Kepler-Card create an account on the Nvidia Forum and release their anger in this Thread to push Nividia:
https://forums.geforce.com/default/...l-as-performance-in-the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-/

Dont be confused by the title, its the place where everything startet and its about all Kepler cards: 6xx/7xx and not just the 780

Can we please get a dev to even say they know about this or not?

Why would they have to confirm that?it's pretty obvious isn't it?assuming you mean Kepler not nearly performing the same as Maxwell cards.
I couldn't even run a GTX 770 at low settings at a stable 60FPS (no hairworks)on the GTX 970 it's pretty much 60 fps with most settings high,2/3 are normal.SSAO,the suggested settings basically without AA trough the game,FXAA forced trough NV panel.
