Skyrim is really only good as a modding platform, but it sorely lacks the attention to story and otherwise like Witcher 3 has. Not to mention they're probably going to use the same old Gamebryo engine and call it something new again, just like last time. Modders will easily notice if they're using the same old.

Vanilla Skyrim is little more than a pretty walking simulator, there's little of interest in the world, the writing is awful, the voice acting is laughable, nothing you do in game makes the slightest bit of the difference to anyone or anything, the story is cliche and the combat is terrible, it's typical post Morrowind Bethesda fare, a game that's a mile wide but only an inch deep. It's a very good modding platform though.

The Witcher 3 corrects all those problems.

Patching this is probably easier said than done, but it's bugging me as well.

I like both games. Main difference is, that Witcher 3 is story driven, with predefined character, Skyrim is not, but that makes its main quest considerebly dull. OTOH, mixing and matching mods for Skyrim (and TES in general) is for me 80+ % of the fun. Others people percents will vary, but still... Of course, I don't say anything about non-PC versions.

EDIT: On PC, modding IS the game.

Skyrim - Sandbox RPG
The Witcher 2 - Narrative RPG with elements of hack 'n slash.
The Witcher 3 - Jack of all trades.
-Narrative
-Sadbox(yeah IT IS a sandbox. I 've strolling around for over 2 hours without doing ANY main quest in Velen. In White Orchard i did every single point of interest and side quest before talking to the Nilfgardian)
-Hack n' slash, in the style of modern hack n slash games that Demon Souls pretty much started.

Yeah i like the Witcher series more than Skyrim. This does not make them better games. I definetely enjoyed exploration in Skyrim more, which is Skyrim's main focus. And of course TW3 has gotten many elements of skyrm. Some good, some really bad(like being able to consume a roasted cow mid comat with no anumations).
