The Witcher 3 loading time?

Hello,

I used to have TW 3 on my HDD but after copying it (even redownloaded) onto an SSD, I feel like there is little improvement on loading time. Today, I timed my loading time and it was ~40 seconds for Skellige and Velen.

So I just want to ask if you've significantly shorter loading time (~20 seconds). TW 3 always has this very long loading time even though other games load just fine so the problem is probably not my SSD.

Try hitting the space bar a few times while it's loading, that causes the game to start when it's finished loading rather than when the "Dandelion Commentary" has finished.

Just confirming: this works brilliantly!

I will be able to load into the game after waiting only 8-10 seconds. Just tap it a few times at around the ~10 second mark.

tried hitting space bar like crazy but I still needed to wait for Dandelion's narration over. After that the background image kept floating.

however, I didn't need to wait for the actual loading screen, which might be 3-4 seconds faster but the loading time is still terrible :(

I think it can be like this on an HDD. The game definitely appreciates an SSD. You shouldn't need to "mash" the spacebar, either. One tap once the game has finished loading will put you straight in.

Maybe CDPR could have a little Witcher medallion appear in the corner of the screen when loading is finished?

yes, it's on an SSD but loading time doesn't seem to improve (I used to have it on my HDD). Other games work just fine.

If it does work, even by a few seconds, then it's simply taking that long to load. Is everything running at "Maximum Performance" in your power settings?

yes, always high performance. That's why I asked for people's loading time. If everyone loads significantly faster, then the problem is my system somehow. Well, not really a huge problem though because I'm used to the pain now :p

Personal experience based on SSD, if you want to compare:
- If I'm loading from the menu, with MOST of Dandelion's narrations pressing space will cause it to load a few seconds before the narration finishes, and avoids the "Tips" screens.
- If I'm loading after death, where it just does the tips and not the narration, it seems to take longer. I've no idea why, or if it's just in my head, as I haven't actually timed it. :)

alright, just do some further testing and I'd say that loading time depends on stage of the story. I load a few mid game-ish saves and it takes 20~30 seconds, tried hitting space bar too. My current save is the last of stage of Battle Preparation quest - 40 seconds.

and the save with the very first quest - Lilac and Gooseberries, tried hitting space in the middle of Dandelion's narration. Poof, only 13 seconds.

on a side note though, my loading after death feels faster since I died a lot, sometimes 10~20 times in a row :D

My experience from an SSD is around 10-15 seconds most of the time. It is actually one of the fastest loading open world games that I played actually. If it's just a death, it definitely takes less than 10 seconds.

For comparison, my game is usually loaded before Dandelion finishes the second "section" of his narration (or second "subtitle", if you play with them). There seems to be something fishy going on with your load times... Although maybe mine is an isolated case. We definitely need more data :) Some other forumites could join in maybe?

yes, I feel like my loading time after death is fine too. It only becomes flaky when Dandelion's narration, which I actually enjoy despite listening to it many times, is involved.

if I am to compare TW3 with other open world games then I'd say Dragon's Dogma and Shadow of Mordor load pretty fast. If you count ancient game like vanilla Skyrim then it's extremely fast, almost instantaneous even on an HDD. Haven't tried vanilla Skyrim on SSD though.

also, just want to throw this here. If my system is the problem then I'd think it's because of my HDD+SSD setup although I think it should not be a problem since both TW3 and OS, Steam are on the SSD. So hypothetically, the HDD should not interfere or have any impact on performance. Well, but it's computer, who knows. Maybe some nefarious force is at work here :p.

The processor in your system, amount of RAM, bitness, "tweaks" if any all will affect loading times to some degree, processor is probably most important (after SSD) here. But then again some people manage to "tweak" their OS so much that all bets are off - not saying you did anything like that, just pointing the possibility. Get this mod, it might help you:

yeah, I'm gonna try that mod (someday).

I don't tweak my OS and I've tried with vanilla TW3 too. I've enough RAM and a i7-4720HQ so I don't think it has any trouble, even if there is, it'd be minimal.

not to mention, loading time is day and night different among different saves too.

It does vary depending on where you are - how far through the game and how busy the area is (as it doesn't just need to load, it also needs to stream that opening view before showing it to you).

OS and Game on two different SSDs, gamesaves on HDD. Just tested in Oxenfurt in Act III, 22 seconds. I think I may need to do some tweaking too :)

Yes, your processor is fine. Something else is at play here, the difference between early game (from memory) ~900k saves and end game ~4mb should not result in such difference. I've nothing further at this point.
