Which leads me to believe they'll just cancel the REDkit, DLC is a far more effective and profitable way of ensuring a game longevity anyway.

Why?

DLC has the same effect as mods, it gives existing players reason to continue playing after release, and, depending on what the DLC adds, gives new players incentive to buy it. The only disadvantage is that it means more work for the devs to produce.

Unlike mods, however DLC generates revenue from new players buying for the first time, as well as existing players who want to access the new content. In other words, mods generate indirect revenue, whereas DLC generates direct revenue.

What is the current state of information about this?

Can we expect the redkit 2 in the near future? There are many confusing statements found throughout the forum.

hard to say really. Mr. Monnier told me that they want to focus for now on the DLC and expansion packs. while others on the forum suggested that the one i should ask is @Benzenzimmern , which i did, but without receiving any response from his part.

so yeah, i really don't know.

My estimation is that RedKit will be released after Toussaint expansion...Hope I'm wrong, though...

here's something even better: i think the last of the free DLC will be REDkit 2, at least a beta.
now THAT would be awesome ^^

Edit menu and in-game strings for British English

Hi guys. I already posted this on the Notebook Review forums, but I supposed this was a better place.

Has anyone managed to decode the .w3strings files in /content/? I'd like to mod them for British English. It's strangely jarring to hear British accents but read American English. Nothing against it, of course - it's just armor vs armour, fiber vs fibre, blinkers vs blinders, -ise vs -ize.

Or in general, what are the strings files? There are some XML files that can be passed through a spell checker since they are more or less plain text, and then the .w3strings files which seem to be encoded and cannot be read as plain text.

You guys assume that Fallout/Bethesda will push the SDK out as soon as possible - which it most likely wont until well into 2016. After all, they want to sell you DLC first as well.

I still hope we will see the RedKit early next year, but I have my doubts. The games longevity would profit immensely if we were to get it while people are still excited about the game.

I doubt it too, because the DLCs are for consoles too. A redkit dlc would exclude the consoles.

blasted consoles ! they have to ruin everything, don't they ? D:
i'm still hoping for the REDkit to be released in a month. if not, the game will get STOMPED by FO4, expansion packs or not.

I moved this here in the hope that there may be some info, but I noticed that it seemed to have drifted off-topic. To be honest, I think that The Nexus is probably the best place to get info on the detail of modding at the moment.

In a month it's very hard. but it's possible until 3th quarter of this year, close to the first dlc.

Breast physics for clothes and no clothes, they claimed there were breast physics for this game but they hardly even "bounce" or "move". How about some real physics for this?

How about remove Ciri's bra, she shouldn't have one.

At least it has "trousers" I cheered a little when I saw that.

There are two aspects to it - mod creation, and mod using. Mod creation is almost certainly going to be PC only, because that's where the tools are.
Mod using is dependent on the technicalities of how to get the mod onto the console, which in turn is determined by the policies of Sony and MS, such as certification requirements. This is the critical factor, not whether the devs permit it.

I know it wasn't possible on last-gen consoles, but I've no idea if it's possible with current-gen. Do you know of any other game where third-party mods can legitimately be used?

That's not what I was asking, I know mods will not be on consoles... I wanted to know if mods could remove all the stupid floating animal names and monsters names and critical hit points and button talk / mount horse prompts??? I know it sounds silly but if mods can get rid of all that crap, I will be more than glad to buy my first PC and buy this game again just so I can play it without all the floating names, numbers and prompts lol...
