Pretty nice. Geralt with beard tends to look aged and experienced. It reminds me of another experienced fellow . . . Vesemir.

To Jerf:
I doubt that they will have about 100 of caves, tombs, and dungeons. So I worry about this: travel distances will be too high. First time it is fine - just ride and look around, enjoy the beauty. What about second, third, forth time? I do not want the world of TW3 to have a structure of Arcania world, where you never have a reason to return, and go from area A to area B, to area C, and so on. Also I do not want fast travel to become a necessary boredom-eliminating feature like it was in Skyrim. A huge world makes sense when important and interesting things happen quite often, not when it is just a decoration, and in reality we only utilize a small part of it, skipping the larger part by fast travel. Also I do not want the world to have a structure of Two Worlds 2, where accessible land is not that large, but somehow an ocean is included into the world size as well. This would be real misleading. If the world is 20-30% larger then Skyrim, it should be in terms of accessible landmass.

Anyway, it is just my worry about the world being too big. I hope 100 hours do not include time to get from one location to another. Comparison with Skyrim as the major selling point is another matter. I think TW3 should stand on its own two feet, and be presented and judged by its own merits, and not in comparison with Skyrim, DAO, or other RPGs. I am not a market analyst, though. It seems to me that uniqueness is a key to greatness, and constant stress on Skyrim is a bit immature, or too simple-minded. But who knows what is better for sales these days.

Granted, if you take Skyrim's apporach, where the player just wanders through the area more or less aimlessly (or with some boring generic goals)

The reason why many players feel that the world in Skyrim is "empty" or "generic", and I admit it is to an extent, is because they don't reconcile with the philosophy of TES. If the player is familiar with the concept of the godhead, then the whole game and its meaning changes. This is also why using mods in Skyrim is so fun.

Sorry, I just felt the need to defend Skyrim. I mean, if you have 100+ hours on the game, then it did something right to keep you playing.

Regardless, yea, I wish Kirkbride had more of a hand in Skyrim. The game would have been fucking fantastic *sigh*

Well, no, actually it's because there isn't a single well thought subsystem in the whole game.

The skill system and general balance are broken, level scaling is horrible, the autoscaled random loot is a joke, the combat is dull, quest design is atrocious, dungeon design virtually non-existent and so on.

Yeah, I agree with that. Skyrim is tolerable as a game because of mods, and while I understand that allowing usage of mods was not done in order to emphasize the philosophy of TES, the fact is that it did, for me at least. The lore of TES is pretty entertaining, and I hope Bethesda doesn't let it go to waste.

Giant killer....really? Alright, no offense CDPR but this 'bigger than Skyrim' bullshit is starting to sound like an insecurity issue. Who the hell cares? Are you guys trying to stir up the fanwars? Remember your fans, the ones who play the games for non-linear, mature stories? Screw Skyrim.

Giant killer, hornet helmets, and bigger than Skyrim. Holy shit, don't make me laugh. I hope it is just a fluke, and not CDPR's idea of an advertising campaign. If it all ends up with TW3 being presented as Skyrim-2, new and improved, there won't be enough strong drink in whole damn Los Angeles area to drown my sorrow in. Though I won't mind some mammoths on Skellige.

next week is going to be killer. If they release a trailer, which they should, I already imagining myself drooling and fainting.

I wonder where Dona is these days, we always chat and talk about during the previous couple of conferences

You have to be able to define "bigger"

It could reference to the size of the game
It could also be something about the major hype that was around Skyrim (as I remember there was a metric shit-ton)
Or maybe a bigger step in the wide RPG Genre?

Just food for thought.

At first glance Geralt looks like a crotchety old man. I think it's the stoop and his grumpy facial expression, particularly the set of his mouth. From the waist up he looks like he just hobbled outside to tell those damn kids to get off his lawn...

...the you realize he's stooped because he's carrying a giant monster head. And that slouch starts to look more like a wolf with his hackles up.

For fuck's sake, do you really think CDPR chooses these headlines? CDPR is making an open world RPG, you think people are gonna compare it to Call of Duty? Of course it's gonna be compared to Skyrim, it's the number 1 open world RPG in terms of popularity.

I seriously doubt that they have much say in this. CDPR might still be perceived as some smaller less-known studio, and I can easily imagine that when a major journal puts TW3 on their cover they tell CDPR something like "OK, we're rather excited about your new game, so we will put it on our cover; however, for this to happen you'll have to be happy with whatever headline we found better suited to increase the sales of our journal". Of course, even if it's true, CDPR always has an option to decline, but who would lose a chance to have their game as the cover story?

I like the ballsy cover. Made me smile when I saw it.

And you folks should consider there's other contenders coming up. Would you rather be seeing DA3 touted by the gaming press as the next great open world RPG? CDPR doesn't spend 50+ million on marketing y'know, this type of buzz is exactly what they need.

Yeah, it means some additional pressure, but after Witcher, Witcher 2, the Enhanced Editions for both, RED Engine, GOG and the way they've handled everything in-between - it's clear this is a company that can live up to expectations and even surpass them. They deserve to be regarded as a serious player.

Imagine the situation with 2 restaurants. One is serving burgers (skyrim), second is serving spaghetti(witcher 2). After success of burgers, spaghetti restaurant announced that their spaghetti gonna be more like burgers. Of course that some fans of Italian cuisine start to feel uneasy about this turn of events.
When i want to eat burgers, i want a real burger. When i want to eat spaghetti i want real spaghetti, not spaghetti that tastes like burgers.

That's the exact reason why I am starting to be sick and tired of Skyrim comparisons. To be fair, it's starting to look like Dark Souls 2 situation -
“The good thing this time round is we’re investing more in it from a marketing perspective. With Dark Souls and [PS3-exclusive spiritual predecessor] Demon Souls it was very focused, small-scale. We’re treating this as a massive, massive triple-A title. We’re going to go guns-blazing with it, and hope to God that it works. We’re going after people who love and adore Dark Souls, while hopefully widening the net a little. I’m not saying that every Skyrim player’s going to be jumping on Dark Souls, but it would be nice if some of them did. It’s a different game, sure.” ~ Namco PR Director Lee Kirton, interview with OXM.

And DS2 doesn't have Skyrim comparison in every damn advertisement I see. Bethesda is possibly starting to laugh their arses off - as for me, CDPR just takes a giant gun can aims it at the feet. Witcher games to this date were not the "broad appeal" whores, and thats why they gained popularity. Not because they were like other RPGs of this generation but because they excelled at traits that particular number of gamers liked. TW2 was a good game not because it was like "Skyrim but better" - it was good because it was "NOT-like skyrim BUT better".

No game in the world will make everyone happy, and making the game that tries to achieve this is a sign of stupidity (EA tries to do that, and while they make profit, it does not give them any kudos from gaming community now, does it? ).
No action, no matter what you will do will make everyone in the world happy. Skyrim did not make everyone happy, TW2 did not make everyone happy - different strokes for different folks, and that's the point.

Seriously, one more damn Skyrim comparison and I will seriously reconsider buying TW3 at launch.

Skyrim everywhere.

(while Skyrim is inspired by other Bethesda works and nordic cultures)

(and we haven't heard yet that something is inspired by Game of Thrones, but this is also expected)
