Well it probably doesn't help that the video can only be watched in 480p without stuttering, so you can't really make out any differences with such low resolution even relative to the PS4 version, which is running at 720p.

How can you say delete it this is new release footage with a comparison from a professional PC gaming site. Before it was just rumours, shit footage, and PR speak from CDPR.

Why do negative threads get deleted? It's apart of life. You take the good with the bad! Everyone has a different opinion. Where is it in the FAQ / Rules that no negative comments are allowed to be made? Just because you disagree with it and you are a CDPR sole supporter no matter, doesn't mean everyone else should be silenced.

[Sard edit: they get deleted if they are magnets foe bad behaviour. Also for for grammar. I hate what that bad words is.]

Deleting the topic just because people are upset will not be resolutive.

[Sard edit: Sure it will! It works great and the forums are nicer to visit and read. Why, what did you think we were here for?]

Sure, there are some exaggerations...overeacting it's quite on the run...but basically their disappointment it's founded on good reasons.

The witcher will be a great game for sure, it will have an excellent quest design, great Choice&Consequences, astonishing writing, and will even look great.
I doubt that anyone thinks different on the matter.
BUT...but...a problem of fairness persist: CDPR have not been fair.
And let's make it clear the problem it's not the downgrade itself (who cares), not even the parity with consoles, it's the way the dealt whit this, with some Ponies?

Next gen must blow people away. Looks like the focus was switching over 2 years ago. Sounds like they wanted the consoles good enough to not be detrimental to the PC.

WOW. That's a powerful article:

Iwinski also claimed that dialogue between creators and gamers will be instrumental to the success of the upcoming platforms. If there is a communication breakdown, game quality could suffer, he argued.
"Here’s the developer, here's the gamer--they should talk," Iwinski said. "If there's a chain of people in the middle that is kind of muffled. The more direct the communication, the better the games are. It's that simple."
Iwinski and CD Projekt Red are currently working role-playing games The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for PC, PlayStation 4, and other "high-end" platforms and Cyberpunk 2077, which has been confirmed only for PC thus far.

Guess there wasn't much talk to PC gamers.

same reason of others evident downgrades
MS and Sony push the dev to release a game without a big gap in graphics between their consoles and the PC

This happend with; Aliens Colonial Marines, Dark Souls 2, Bioshock Infinite, Watch Dogs, Far Cry 3 and now Witcher 3

Hello, My Children. It is I, your local ruthless mod. All finished eating some helpless..I dunno. Infants? Puppies? Something adorable. Teddy bears! No, wait..anyway.

Currently, this thread is open. It IS a thread to see how you all behave n the Visuals topic. It is -also- a ban magnet thread! Yes, we patrol regularily and anyone who gets out of line, regardless of how excited or upset or how valid they feel their complaint is, is gone.

Makes it easier to find you, really.

Now, A RULES REMINDER:

1. Be Civil! Treat each other and your posts with some respect! Or else.

2. Be Informative! Do -not- spam/repeat your point in the belief you can have a fun flamewar or repost what others posted. Or else!

3. Try to make things better! If you are here to talk about how disappointed you are and how CDPR should make you happier, forget it. They are -busy-. Who is reading your posts are your forum members and our community. So if you can't in some way improve things, re-think posting it. Or else!

This forum is NOT your personal complaints department. It wont be one even after the game is out. We are here to talk about a game and series we all quite like and our pleasures/issues with it's aspects.

Not to make ourselves feel better by making other people worse.

I do love getting rid of people who do that. It, appropriately enough, makes me feel better!

Now, you may resume. At least until and if we lock or delete this thread. Or I fill it entirely with Ponies.

just going to throw my 2 cents out there. downgrade or not, i am still stocked about the game, ever since fallout 3 i stopped caring about graphics in an RPG. i made the mistake of judging fallout 3 by graphics and didn't play it for a year. biggest mistake i ever made about the game, it has been to date the best RPG ever for me, even with all the new and shinier ones out there. for the witcher 3, i think i'll judge it by its storyline, NOT the graphics (which frankly still look amazing). and as one "lukasemschulz" stated, making something graphically stunning isn't near as simple as people state. those trailers from 2013? who knows what problems they encountered when running the game with that look, what they have now however CLEARLY works, and works well. if you built your shiny new computer JUST for this game you're just stupid, it's an RPG, and just one amongst many games out there. so what if it doesn't fully utilize your $3000 rig? other games will!

CDPR, of course. Who else?

Original high quality lighting engine? (Biggest downgrade IMO, look at the awful interior lighting in the shot posted above)
Original high quality water?
Original high quality fire/smoke?
High quality foliage?
Better LOD/Draw distances the PC is easily capable of?

Not much, really. Just was was shown in the 35min demo which we were told was not even running on Ultra settings which CDPR was "hiding" as as "surprise".

I explained the MSAA thing in my original post.
If you want to read up on it google for 'deferred shading MSAA'.

High quality lighting engine? I doubt something changed there. If you look at the old 2013 screenshots you still see the extremely flat lighting the came with using the W2 renderer, since then things have only improved.
I have to admit that the shot you're referring to looks a little flat, but in a game this size and is to be expected that there's places that don't look as good during different TODs. You people are just picking the few bad places to cement the 'downgrade argument'.

High quality water, can't judge that, but the Nvidia Waterworks scenes were shot during heavy storm and looking at the config files already openly available in the W3 preload water tesselation is still there.

High quality fire/smoke means what exactly? You're just referring to the Wild Hunt cutscene, right? Different aesthetics, I doubt they'd scale down the fire textures just for sh**s and giggles. Same thing with the smoke. Give me uncompressed ingame PC screenshots of those scenes and we could do a comparison, but basing this off of lossy Youtube videos is futile.

The foliage thing is absurd and I already explained it. Add massive amounts of unmask sharpen, or high-pass sharpening and you're getting back your old foliage.
Of course there could have been some texture changes, but those are changes and no downgrade.
How do you imagine this scene playing out at CDPR: 'hey guys, those grass textures look way too good, let's change them to some worse looking ones!'.
Like I said, absolutely absurd.

The PC LODs kick in farther away from the camera. That's already happening. Better LOD is a stupid thing to wish for, that would negate the purpose of LOD.
There's different levels of LOD and they kick in at different distances to the camera, and again, looking at the config files the distances can be changed, just like they could be changed in The Witcher 2.
But having to keep extra lod levels in separate thousands of meshes just for the PC version is an atrocious amount of work; and looking at the PC videos and screenshots work that really isn't necessary.

You don't get that on consoles. Honestly what more do you want? For them to rebuild their engine to add.. what exactly?

This is just the icing on the cake, I agree. This entire debate reminds me of a southpark episode... you know the one about music piracy with metallica saying "now we can only afford the G4 private jet instead of the G5 private jet!" Waaaaaaaaah, lol. This is the finest witcher game to ever be released, and look at all this talk, haha.

Most of the "comparison" shots are either intentionally made to show a huge gap due to compression/streaming quality shots, or compared to a very early in-engine shots of the game that weren't even playable as a complete game yet. The media (and many people looking for clicks/internet notoriety) are spreading misinformation to stir up chaos.

It has been said you should be able to reproduce to looks of the later shown (by CDPR, mind you) gameplay at home. Now the equipment you would need or the time before this will be possible is up for debate, but it has been said, so you can take that to the bank. I have heard from a few that played this on pc that it looks WAAY better than the consoles, but until YOU see it on YOUR screen at home, you just won't get to see that. The internet is always going to hamper the graphics of a game due to various levels of compression, and the more detailed the game the more that gets lost in translation.

Wait until you have the game to see for yourself. Wait until you have the release day patch. Wait until you have all the FACTS and not just the rumors and mishype (yes, I can make up words if I feel like it) and then come back and present your concerns with constructive suggestions on what you would like to see, or how you think it could be implemented. Or who is to take you seriously.... I'm just saying...

And I agree with all this.

It comes down to me for this, is... IF you have to have a 1000 dollar computer to replicate ABOUT the same as a PS4... that doesn't add up to me. That is because when you make a game for the weakest link (console) you make it run worse on a computer. THEN if you make a game BUILT for PC. It's just a huge unfortunate situation. PR didn't help. Demo's DIDN'T help. It just created hype, and the hype has been left wanting.

As of right this moment. You may be completely correct and come tomorrow, everything may be a COMPLETELY different story. :D

It is not about that...I liked how Witcher 1 looked more than how Witcher 2 looked.

This is how some scenes in the game look. Not all of them since the game looks best at sunlight outdoors.

I have watched streams and this lighting has zero atmosphere and it ruined a story moment because it's so bad. I don't want to play this...

I have never understood the I don't care about graphics debate. Im not saying that everyone likes them but there are some people especially pc crowd that have rigs and different setups to achieve a level of fidelity that the consoles cant match and they want that. To say it isn't a valid want or that someone is wrong for it is a little hypocritical. People like story, gameplay, and eye candy. The eye candy is what imo really hooks someone into a game and lets them get lost in it. The immersion factor, pretty much and the more immersive it is, the better. The graphics are the first thing we see and interact with, so we take that in before story or gameplay...You see it way before you read or hear it. I would just ask that people don't hate on others who prefer to have the best graphical fidelity they can get as opposed to the downgrade...:( just some food for thought.

I don't think most of the people here are frustrated with the reduced graphical fidelity, but the fact they feel cheated by the developer and how PR handled things. I've been here since ~2008 with different accounts and I think a lot of people who supported the company in the early days felt a change the way things were handled with TW3. It's more about trust than anything else. I bought the game, I'll enjoy it despite it's shortcomings, but I know I'll be cautious the next time CDPR announce a new project and most definitely they won't have my secure pre-order from day 1 like they had up until now. :)

yeah and buying new hardware and monitor in my case didn't help...o_O Granted I didn't do it just for The Witcher 3 but it was also to help play what I was told would be a way more graphical intense game....Im referring to the 2014 35 minute video...I never thought we would get the 2013 footage....That was a pipe dream.
