PC obviously, main reason being the fact that there will be mods and tweaks in the configs that people will come out with.

Maybe sometime later on the future I might buy it on PS4 too.

PS4 wants to switch to PC for the ultimate TW3 experience, few questions

I'm almost done with my first playthrough on PS4. Well I'm thoroughly enjoying the experience, I must say that the performance on PS4 is less than smooth. And now that the patch has improved performance in some areas, in others it has been downgraded to compensate. All in all I don't think the overall performance on PS4 will never get any better.
I can afford a 2000/3000$ PC rig, but the reason why I've not done so it's because I'm not a gamer, and sometimes I feel it's an overkill to spend so much just to play TW3 and a couple of other games. However things like mods also makes me really want to get an PC.
For those who are playing on a top rig, do you think the performance on PC is so much better on the consoles that would warrant this investment? Will there be more substantial mods coming to PC? Like skin changing (playing with a NPC skin) or other cool stuffs? Any other benefits that should motivate me to make the switch?
Thank you!

It really comes down to personal preference, to an extent - to me, framerate trumps pretty much everything else, so the fact that my PC can run the game at 60fps with almost everything at Ultra (and with your budget, you can probably get a better rig than mine) makes this a no-brainer. I have the PS4 version as well, but I've never even bothered popping in the disc. I also wonder what audio quality is like - the voice files of the 360 version of TW2 were heavily compressed, and everything sounded much better on PC.

As for mods, look around the TW2 mods at Nexusmod, that should probably give you some idea of what we can eventually expect for TW3.

The bottom line is, I'm a lifelong console gamer, and I got a PC because of TW2 - never regretted it.

Honestly, if you're you're looking for graphics, then I'd say no. The difference from PC and ps4 for W3 is not much to make you justify a difference from a ps4 that costs $400 to a gaming rig of $2000+. I'd just stick spending the money on a nice large screen 4k TV and play your ps4 on it (if you're not doing so already). Plus add a great 5.1 surround sound system to greater you're gaming experience. I'm playing on a Samsung 55" 120hz TV and an awesome 800watt surround system and it looks and sounds amazing playing the witcher 3.

Now if its frame rates you want, then yes. Go for it. The consoles can't give you what a PC can. Playing games in 60+ fps would be amazing. Fps does change the gaming experience.

So try to decide how you want your gaming experience. Do you want graphics or fps? What's the priority here?

If you have already played through the game, I would hold off on buying a whole new rig if you're not planning on playing a lot of games besides W3. While a $2000 rig will vastly outperform a ps4, the PC version of the game has its own extensive set of issues.

As for modding, I'm quite impressed with what the community has been able to do so far, but until RedKit is released mods are more or less limited to reshade/sweetfx presets, config tweaks and of course, the enabled console.

While I would recommend PC as the gaming platform choice to almost everyone, in your situation I'd wait to see what RedKit will allow modders to do and see if the benefits of the PC version weigh up to the investment cost.

You dont need a 2-3k $ dollar rig ! Buy an Intel i7-4790k for example and a GTX970,Motherboard, 8 -16GB RAM, SSD, 500w PSU. After a few years you can change the GPU and still play every game on Ultra.

I was a lifelong console player too, but pc is so much better ! It's even cheaper than consoles, if you don't make a overpowered mega PC build.
6 Years PC gaming = 1 RAM-module broken (wanted 16gb ram anyways, so no real problem)
(fault time = 2 minutes till i removed the faulty ram module and could still use my pc)

5 Years Xbox 360 = 3 x RROD + 1 optical drive failure (together a fault time for at least 8 weeks without console)

TBH since I've never had a gaming PC, I've got no idea what 60 FPS looks like LOL,. My eyes are used to 20-30 FPS that I don't even think I'm bothered by the FPS drops on TW3 unless they are major like during some of the cutscenes.
However the performance on PS4 is quite bad, it appears as if there is memory leak when you play for 2+ hours, loading screens and blurring when talking to merchants, the sudden pop-up and terrible draw distance, and the reduced number of NPCs and worse textures on some stuffs in the recent patch, all make me want to get a PC for the better, and more smooth, performance.

Hi,

Well I must say that the experience is definitely much superior on PC than on consoles, first you get smooth 60 fps experience that cannot be replaced by anything else then you'll have the benefit of higher resolutions (if 4k is not achievable than 1440p is certainly much better than 1080p), better overall graphics etc, you can also tweak your game for either higher image quality or higher performance by tinkering with the game configuration files then you'll have SweetFX which is a great way to overhaul the graphics to your liking. The possibilities are simply endless on PC.

As for the mods, the game is already getting some good mods. Here is the list I know (maybe there are more)

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-best-witcher-3-mods/

and these are the ones that are done without RedKit (official modding tools), once they are released we'll see a whole bunch of mods for this game, if Skyrim and GTA 4 are some examples then it means modders have huge interest in open world games.

Beside TW3, more good games are coming to PC. They will be released on consoles too though PC will have the same advantage as I mentioned above. Dx 12 is also on the horizon and it looks very promising so far so all in all it's perfect time to be a PC gamer right now.

EDIT:

Here is the difference between 60 fps and 30 fps.

Buying a 4K TV for gaming on a PS4 would be pointless since it can't do anything over 1080p. Not to mention a decent 4k TV alone would cost pretty much the same or more as the amount he was willing to spend on a gaming PC. Just saying.

The difference between this game at 4K or 1440p and consoles is massive. But so is the hardware required to run such a resolution. 20-30FPS is unplayable to me, but $3000 is a massive budget IF you build the computer yourself. If you don't want to take the time to learn to build a computer, then don't bother because you'll waste thousands on a subpar computer.

You must get 1440p or higher if you want to see a nice improvement over the PS4. This isn't GTA V, where the PC version absolutely destroys the PS4 version.

Higher resolutions will greatly decrease aliasing and make everything sharper, HBAO+ will make things have more depth, hair is nice but very taxing even on the best computers. The blurring when talking to merchants is depth of field, that is by design and while you can disable it on PC, most would say it adds to the experience. Most games have it.

There's already quite a few mods but they aren't very user friendly yet. The mod kit will change that and you'll see game changing mods. You can already play as different models, using the developer console you can even change geralt to a nude Ciri if you wish. ;)

That gives way too much credit to 30fps because the 60fps feed is being played with a controller still. You also can't "feel" the problems with 30FPS in a video. I don't know how so many players actually enjoy games at 20-30FPS. I feel like i'm fighting a game instead of playing a game at those frames.

Since you're used to console gaming, maybe a steam machine is more for you? http://www.sybergaming.com/products/steam-machine.aspx

Well yeah I agree with you, in a video you cannot notice the drops or the struggling experience you feel yourself while playing. I absolutely cannot play at 30 fps, it suddenly feels like I am too fast and the game is too slow though the purpose of that website is to show how smooth 60 fps looks and feels but one can only get the real experience from playing personally.

Honestly, I took one look at a console game I already owned and had played a ton (Crysis 2) running on a PC at 60fps, and I said, I want that. And it's not just the visuals, in action games the controls usually also feel more responsive because the game refreshes at a faster rate.

Find a mage and tell them to change the outlook to PC while keeping the hardware to PS4.

except there's like barely any games available for steam machines. Not worth what you save on windows license fee at all. I highly doubt Steam OS will break the windows pc gaming monopoly. AAA developers can't even be bothered porting to windows properly half the time.

For people who have played both versions, how is the performance on the PS4 compared to on a decent PC? I'm wondering if the PS4 version is something I could recommend to a friend.

This is a bad reasoning. The graphic is better (better resolution, more effects), the framerate is better, it's moddable, games are cheaper, online is cheaper (sometime even free), you have more choice about accessories (joystick, pad, mouse, keyboard...etc)... Well everything is better. So if you're looking for better experience, then the answer is YES.

Now if you play just 1 game... It's rather pointless... It's like you buy a ferrari to make 1 single trip...

Unless the game is :

1. Platform
2. Racing
3. Fighting
4. Sports
5. Adventure

And on top of that you have the same maxed graphics.

Then ALL the games are better on PC.

So Witcher 3 = PC
