Why are you people so grass fixated? in motion it looks absolutly fine. Yes in Screenshots it looks bad... but if you just watch a video or later play the game you will hardly notice it unless you really look for it... and honestly do people play that way?

Will some of you be like: "Start up TW3... loads save.... Stands at a Crossroad starring at the grass for minutes" I mean really? What happend to just losing yourself in a game world.. fixating more on the overall athmpsphere than technical details? Is that out right now?

Damn Gothic 2 back then was a bad game from a technical standpoint... yet it is one of the most immersive Games of all time imo.

Arguing about the effects compression has on the details of assets is valid, but when it comes to matters like pop-in, LOD, and foliage density it doesn't really have an effect on the quality of those things. Take this image I've cropped from another user's photo for example:
View attachment 13173
The way that the grass is placed down on the map honestly just looks really bad, compression isn't hiding anything. It's really easy to see that there are little flat walls of grass being mushed together and it's not very pretty. It's a little bit disappointing honestly after playing games like Far Cry 4 which had really nice, full foliage.

I wonder...they said that they wanted to save ultra for release.

Maybe this is just a ruse or something lol. Maybe they want to completely shock and blow us away come actual release..and this is some sort of "ploy".

Maybe?

Possible but in any case if Ultra is really on some youtube video we can't see sh**. And it's annoying. Don't get why CDPR doesn't let people show the game at its best on such shitty video. There are absolutely no video that is good looking at all. And it's not the game fault. It's youtube.

To CDPR: just send videos to gamersyde too instead on first showing ultra with people who are not able to upload high quality videos ! And you wonder why people think there are a downgrade -_- I mean use youtubers of course but if you have to show ultra just send an uncompressed video seriously ! I don't know if it is because of Xbox partnership or this kind of stuffl but your communication sucks now ! Really. What good idea is this to show ultra on a video where you can see nothing... If the downgrade talk has started again it's your fault.

I don't believe in this downgrade at all (if it doesn't look like SoD at release I am sure you have texture pack, ubersampling or stuff like that already prepared). I believe in you but serioulsy it's so frustrating to see "Ultra setting" and seeing only pixels and artefact compression...

Well....Cinema has Film photography, Videogaming has screenshots. :)

But for me it's not the grass, but bushs. They looks inconsistent, like paper.

In motion it doesn't look good either. The wind and sometimes shadows do help cover it up, but not that much. It's really hard not to notice large gaps in grass and flat grass walls swaying in the wind. Here's a link to Gopher's first video on TW3, non spoilers in that particular section:

Yeah, everything but the grass looks stunning. Seeing medium to large gaps in the grass doesn't look appealing at all really, especially when it's compared to some of the earlier footage.
On the topic of VGX and the ability to reproduce the scenes from it, I'm starting to doubt that statement after seeing these two pieces of footage. One is from Putinland, the other is the VGX trailer:
https://youtu.be/5R0h_jPY240?t=10s (Putinland)
https://youtu.be/kbXvl7-XlaY?t=20s (VGX)

I have something really interesting on this subject! I was looking at one of the youtubers gameplay and suddenly: :look:

It's the same location as this scene from the VGX trailer:

Mind you, the shot from the youtube video is in horrible quality so it's hard to judge eventual loss of "awsome graphix". But the tone is drastically different for sure. Very interesting indeed. I think I prefer the current look, it looks more "natural". The VGX trailer is more striking but looks like a gritty movie whit overuse of post-filters.

What do you think?
:hmm:

That just broke my hart. Look... CDPR did an amazing job with the game so far and it looks incredible best looking open world game i have ever seen. But to say the top picture is better is downright stupid imo. Look at the draw distance, don't tell me you prefer low draw distance. The birds, the details in the clouds, smoke form the chimineas the grass. And the mood is amazing. To bad it wont look like that.
But then again that doesn't matter much because this game is going to be fucking awesome.

I saw a few gameplay footage from the very last event, I was blown away, it look absolutely fantastic, the atmosphere, the weather, ect... Am I... wrong to feel amazed? because from the look of things (this thread) people don't think it looks good at all, or maybe they expected something more? I just don't get it.

I totally agree with you man i was blown away. The world really feels alive when you see the trees moving frantically by the wind it seems like you can almost smell the air it's amazing. But about the other people it's just that they are actually saying valid things. Some of the graphical assets are not exactly the same as before but that mostly happens in developments. I think we just shouldn't lie to ourselfs that the changes are not there because they are even thou they are minor imo.

This has been my feeling all along lol..
They could be the first to pull off a true upgrade, even on consoles.
What would gamers do!?! Are they going to bitch and get mad because the game now looks better at launch on all platforms?
I think that would be Great, no one has ever done that. :) I'm mean.. if most people like it as it looks now and somehow it looks even better than these preview builds.
Holy shit they foold us all but in a good way right?
Yeah, I still have my doubts but that would be fucking killer on their part for all of us ;)

When I look at TW3 the vast majority of the graphical qualitys look astounding and makes for a very rich and detailed environment and atmosphere. But there are 2 things that I've noticed that look very odd and breaks immersion for me.

The foiliage: While the foliage looks nice and dense it looks very bright, and has a washed out look, it looks as though it came from a water color painting. The problem is that it is not consistent with the more realistic graphical approach such as the tree bark, armor, water etc.

The second problem I see is the continuous fade in/out of objects that are behind/close to you. I'm not sure if that is for optimization or an design choice. Nonetheless it breaks immersion. The issue is really due to the objects fading out/in prematurely and it really takes me out.

All in all, TW3 looks super immersive and this is why those things really stand out to me. Is anyone else noticing these things and would like to see it fixed in a later patch?

P.S. I am judging my opinions from the latest youtube gamplays from the personality's.
I must admit, I am not a fan of the trees and bushes fading out before I can even pass them. In fact I don't like it at all.. it bothers me a lot too, my only guess is.. it has to be like that for the game to run smooth without loading screens.
I guess that's the price we pay and we will just have to deal with it and try to ignore it the best we can. Everything else looks pretty damn amazing, I do wish Geralt could cling on to that bridge in that one video I just saw, he just falls and dies. Geralt needs to be able to hold on to it and pull him self up.
Or on big rocks in the open world for example, it's cool & fun how Dragon's Dogma did it. DAI not cool, it had no climb animations at all it looks fucking stupid try to hop like a bunny over and over to reach a higher rock. I'm telling all devs world wide take cues from Dragon's Dogma and do it better! lol.. That game just felt good to play, it was fast it was fun and the freedom to sprint and jump up on to high rocks and monsters was a blast. Down side was the crappy walking animations the childish story the open world graphics, cheesey voice actors annoying pawns blah blah blah yeah it could have been so much better if the artists at CDPR were behind it, I have to say though.. Dragon's Dogma has some great monster a dragon designs, some of the best I've ever seen and then The Witcher 3 was born ;) lol..

Reg, it seems you have an axe to grind. There is a Visuals thread, where this belongs. Looking at it, I see your last post was "Downgrade confirmed".

If you are looking to convince people here that CDPR downgraded their game in order to appease the console sales, consider the job done. They absolutely did, in between setting fire to churches and laughing at racist jokes. They are bad, bad people and they would happily downgrade their own game just to destroy our hopes. Why, I think I hear several of them cackling madly in the distance right now.

Like it or lump it, the game is done and on its way to wide release. If it has been downgraded, too bad. Don't buy it. Buying an RPG for the stunning visuals has always amused me, much like buying it for the control scheme or the quality of hair. It's an RPG - those things are not paramount to what the game is trying to do.

If it has been downgraded, I'm sure a lot of people - after yelling angrily for, oh, hours, will start looking at patching and modding it to some obscenely high state that I will be able to play and most people will not. Thus proving I am a nearly-perfect person and spent waaay too much money on my rig.

But either way, starting threads and yelling "downgrade! Whyyyy!" isn't going to change the game, convince CDPR they made a huge mistake or do anything other than start/continue trouble.

Keep it in the right thread, kids.

Look at 4:39 in this video. The pop in is very apparent and distracting.

Engine and Hardware limitations.
You'll still be waiting many, many years before you aren't seeing pop-in like that. Every open world game has it, just varying degrees, and W3 seems to be up there with the games that do it the best.

I've recently been playing GTA V on Max settings. It has an incredible draw distance, probably longer than W3's, but even that game has very evident pop-in when you're driving around. It has probably the least pop-in I've seen in the recent slew of open world games, and W3's is about on-par.

Um... You downgrade-people do remember that, in the La Valette demo of Witcher 2, they said that everything you see could be explored seamlessly? They did, yet no one cared later on that it wasn't true, we loved it anyway. I think people like regulator were downgraded more than the graphics ever could.
