Thats my screen cap. And when I said I took a hatchet to the trailer, I meant that quite literally. Every fraction of a second, every frame, yields a different result in differing scenes. I was literally mashing the space bar as quickly as I could and using the simple windows snip tool. And even then, when I caught something I liked but for whatever didn't snap a screen cap, I had a hard time reproducing the scene again. The characters and beasts almost always look outstanding. I was not intending to showcase any one side of this debate in any way. In fact, I'm part of the group that still thinks this game looks fantastic, regardless of any corners cut by CDPR. Given the scope of this game I'm perfectly content with what I've seen so far. And if modders enhance it down the line-- then I'll be even happier. There's so much angst in this particular thread, I think we need to continue to remember what we WILL be getting in this game that is downright thrilling.

Side question-- can anyone recall if the dev statement about reserving Ultra gameplay/"slap you in the face" etc, was before or after the deluge of youtube videos from the Warsaw visits that were conducted?

Well thats not the best example of skyrim fire, but that still looks better than most fire we've seen so far in W3 gameplay, as well as more realistic. "Super high quality" - isn't that abit of an exaggeration? It needs to be high quality - not low quality not super duper high quality. At least it should be on ultra setting. Speaking of which fire in DA:inquisition also looks immeasurably better.

For reference sake-- I'm on lunch and not hungry, so I tried it again and could not reproduce that exact frame when mashing spacebar as fast as I could to pause play. Here is the result notice that first frame-- are we going to nitpick that all white rendering? We're talking about fractions of a fraction of a second here: http://imgur.com/a/h2reO

well what we see in those is sparks (identical to igni sparks) and a blurry fireball , like a blob. I mean even fire effects in dota2 look better to me, or molotov in cs:go.

The fire effects are WAYY better than skyrim. Its just that the VGX/SoD effects were cripser and higher resolution, maybe a few more particles, and the forward lit soft particles (the great smoke), we have yet to see if physx (which we have not seen) makes the fire look a lot better.


Don't know if physx will improve the "resolution" of the fire maybe someone else with more experience in this area can clarify.


It is strange, because the fire from igni and torches is the best I have ever seen. But the fire that is on like huts and stuff looks a lot worse.

except in many videos igni stream doesn't even have fire , just sparks. How can you claim "best i have ever seen" ? Why do you think Physx will affect fire at all? It does not, and won't . It would also already have been in all the trailers since I'm pretty sure they use nvidia cards, and its not disabled. The only thing that we don't see much of is nvidia hairworks (which is not the same as physx) and has nothing to do with fire.

Still, I was expecting a next gen Witcher running on a GTX9xx series to use particles for explosions, not Quake 2 quality sprites

that does look great , but why doesn't it look like that in many other recent trailers. Its missing the fire stream effect entirely and is just smoke and sparks. Did PR guys who made the videos miss something? Old build? Maybe.

Because..I think it is the best I have ever seen? Why say "how could you believe something"?

Also, I am sure that physx will affect it, at least in terms of the particles and smoke. That's what physx does. That's why in games like Batman Akrham or Metro, when physx is turned on there is a plethora more of sparks and higher quality dynamic smoke/particle effects.

Well any EA Sports games like FIFA. The builds for PS4 and Xbox are totally different from builds on PC. But as I said I understand that for what they are doing it makes sense to not have different builds. A big company like EA has seperate teams working on the different versions. But still PC has graphical settings why can't they put additional graphical settings in a patch to make it look good on PC?

its things like this, and the obvious downgrades that have killed my enthusiasm for the game, truly it has, i am not excited anymore. I feel like CD backstabbed the pc because of the consols, we should of had the option for all the bells and whistles and just remove them for the consoles.. instead its us who made CD who they are today who got kicked in the teeth. The game will never ever look as good as the trailers promised to us.. pc version = ps4 version. Disappointed. Game did look incredible, now its just a consol looking mmo visually.

Tha fault for this "ipotetical" downgrade (the game is not released yet, so for now it's only speculation) has to be addressed to Namco Bandai who's the publisher, not CDPR.
Namco Bandai was the publisher of Dark Souls 2 and everybody knows what happened.

guys guys, no game looks at its best ALL the time, if you want to use very specific examples you can destroy any game ever made in terms of graphics, or... you can make it look like the best thing ever, which is what VGX did btw, except for the griffin part which looks just like recent footage in terms of quality.

The possibilities for why that effect, looks bad there, are too many to even bother mentioning them, especially considering its all speculation. In my opinion its best to focus on what you will notice more during the game, like the foliage for example.

Also, it's well known by every gamer (hopefully) that games look at their worst when there's a lot of light, its extremely obvious in the witcher 3 too.

That last trailer when I was watching I was wondering why oh why would they record almost every scene with that plain daylight that takes away contrast and shadows...
