UPDATE [September 25, 2025]: We originally planned to introduce cross-platform mod support for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S later this year, but the rollout is now shifting to 2026.

We apologize for the delay and will share more details as we get closer to the release. Thank you for your patience!

As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we’re excited to share some good news for our players and modders!

Later this year, we will release one more patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This update will introduce cross-platform mod support across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S via mod.io.

Creating, sharing, and enjoying mods will be easier and more accessible, as players on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S will be able to share a modding ecosystem.

We have put together an FAQ to answer some of your burning questions:
Does downloading mods on PC, Xbox Series X|S, or PlayStation 5 cost money?
Uploading, sharing, and downloading mods via Cross-Platform Mod Support is available at no extra cost to those who own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
What platforms will get Cross-Platform Mod Support?
Mods will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
When will Cross-Platform Mod Support be available?
We originally planned to introduce cross-platform mod support for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 later this year, but the rollout is now shifting to 2026. We apologize for the delay and will share more details as we get closer to the release.
What is mod.io?
A tool that brings Cross-Platform Mod Support to PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, mod.io provides an easy to use platform for downloading and uploading mods.
Do I need a mod.io account to access Cross-Platform Mod Support?
You need to have a mod.io account and connect it to your CD PROJEKT RED account in order to access Cross-Platform Mod Support. A mod.io account can be created when you access the new in-game mod menu for the first time or visit the mod.io website. Mod creators can upload and manage their mods on the mod.io website.
Can I still use other modding services like Nexus Mods and Steam Workshop?
Yes, existing modding services can still be used, meaning players do not need to use mod.io to upload and download mods for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. However, to access mods on consoles, mod.io is required.
Will all mods be available across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5?
Many mods will be available across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. However, due to specific content guidelines and selection criteria for each platform, it may not be possible to bring every mod uploaded on PC to console. Mods available on mod.io must also adhere to our Fan Content Guidelines and CD PROJEKT RED User Agreement.
Does Cross-Platform Mod Support only support REDkit mods?
REDkit gives mod creators access to the powerful tools used by CD PROJEKT RED when creating The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and we therefore recommend it when creating mods. However, Cross-Platform Mod Support will support mods created in other ways too. That being said, any mods for consoles that use scripts must be created with REDkit. Other mods, for textures, bundles, and so on, do not need to be created with REDkit.
How do I create mods compatible with Cross-Platform Mod Support?
PC users can download The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt REDkit to create mods, with detailed information available on the official website.
Can you create mods on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5?
No, while Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 players can enjoy playing the myriad mods available through Cross-Platform Mod Support, mods must be created with a mod creator like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt REDkit on PC.
How do I share mods on mod.io?
Mods can be shared by uploading them to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Hub on the mod.io website.
How can I guarantee my mod will be available on console?
Mods created via REDkit have the best chance at being approved for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.

We will share more information closer to the release of the patch, so stay tuned!

Thank you for being part of this incredible journey over the last 10 years. We can’t wait to see what you’ll bring to the world of The Witcher!

The adventure continues!

Sound great!
I'm quite interested to see what kind of mods will be allowed on consoles :)
On side note, I expect to see people asking the same for Cyberpunk :D

This is incredible, I can’t wait for mods on console for Witcher 3!

I’m really hoping we could see a mod that lets you change Geralt’s model, so you can play as different ingame NPCs like Eskel or Ciri on the open world, that would be so cool 🤞

Can you please update FSR to the latest version in the upcoming patch? It would allow users to drop in updates, just like DLSS and XeSS. An official implementation of frame generation would be nice too.

Would it be possible to get a setting to turn off head bob and reduce motion when running around or sprinting as it does cause motion sickness within me anyways and a few others it would be a nice setting to have atleast in the game for console folks aswell as pc

So, I imagine this will get answered sooner to this being implemented, but since I still have to get all the trophies with the PS5 version of The Witcher 3 and its DLCs (and am debating whether I want to launch into that epic now or later), I have to ask: Will using mods when playing the game disable trophies/achievements for those playing console? I know it doesn't for Steam/GOG, but I also know the console folks tend to be stricter about such matters.

I'm not sure, but I think it will depend largely on the nature of the mod. Something cosmetic may not affect things, but I would imagine any mod that alters gameplay mechanics, skills and abilities, etc. would almost definitely disable some achievements.

Hm. I'm mostly fine with that, but past experience with console modding and achievements teaches me that if a console game allows mods, they either A) Don't affect trophies/achievements OR B) Disable them regardless of the mod. The powers-that-be for consoles don't seem to like having to be selective. In this case, I hope it's the former, but we'll see.

I am deeply hoping this experiment will be a success and we get mods for CP2077 on console, as that would be a dream.

I wonder if downloading mods would disable achievements, that's why I rushed to get them all in case that were the situation so now I've completed the game twice haha. I will be looking for appearance mods immediately, I need to fix how Triss and Dandelion look. New quest options would be good too, maybe people can import mods from nexus?

Yes. That's mostly up to how the platform (Microsoft, Sony, etc.) want to handle modding if they make it available. I don't really know where the details stand, at present. I've largely gotten away from modding over the years. (Too much past modding.)

Obviously, the point is to reserve achievements for people that actually play the game according to the mechanics and challenges presented by the studios. They want to avoid someone using a mod to give themselves god-mode, another that exploits a glitch, finishing a 50+ hour game in 42 minutes, and unlocking every achievement on that platform along the way with all of the perks or points that would come with it.

Sometimes, the only way to be sure is to say, "Mod activated? Achievements disabled."

The last example of modded game I experienced on console (xbox) is Starfield.
There are some mods which doesn't disable achievements achievements friendly" and other does. It simply seems to depend of what the mod affect. "cheating" mods (like god-mode) will disable achievements, while cosmetic mods of ship part mods does not.

Hey. Sorry if i seem rude or obnoxius but, when will we have a release date for the update?
Tomorrow. If not, definitely after tomorrow.

Seriously, though, the studio is not likely to post a date until the patch is more or less finalized.
