The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt gets a FREE next-gen update on December 14th!

+

I have a question I've been trying to find an answer to. Will I be able to buy the Complete Edition and still keep my GOTY Edition intact? I don't mind at all paying full price for the Complete Edition but only if I get to keep my GOTY edition pristine. Just for the record I got the GOTY edition on GOG and plan to do the same with the Complete Edition because I like to buy directly from the developer when possible instead of through a 3rd Party that always takes a cut

Wait mods on console?! I know it won't be necessarily the same thing, but I wonder what this could mean for Cyberpunk? [...] Also, I wonder how will access this? Similar to Cyberpunk on ps5?
Not what is meant, as someone that got the game @ launch, I can tell you that every new patch, about half my mods were made obsolete, some were just bug fixes, but others were more QOL improvements, that CDPR thought were great ideas, and weren't shy about acknoledging the mod that inspired the change.
Consoles have been getting "Mods" integrated into their experience since the games first patch.

Unlike BGS (Bethesda Games Studios) that ignored mods, and only added such things without ever acknowledging the source mod.
The EULA grants them full rights, to use anything modders create, while modders still own copyright to all unique assets.
The "Hardcore Survival Modes" are the most obvious example in both Fallout 4, and Skyrim SE, being inspired from mods.
FNV (Project Nevada), and SLE (Frostfall). Forgot to say, the mods still did Survival best.

JUST WHY?
You already have GOTY Edition on GOG, and will get the Upgrade for free.
You can always grab the GOTY offline installer right now to keep it forever, I use the website exclusively.
If you prefer Galaxy, it provides a zip archive of the installers files under the Extras Page along with any Game Goodies.

So the DIY approach has you covered, but as somebody that got the Launch release, and both Expansions, I fully expect to see three versions of Witcher 3 on GOG, as I already have two now. (I won't rely on that though, and I already have my offline installers)
Whatever the version of your game (game bought day one or GOTY), you will get the next-gen update (it's "just" an update which will be applied to every game verion)
My GOG Library says you are wrong, about that (In your defense, it's usually correct).

I suspect I'll get a third version on GOG at least.
Edited to add;
If you want to show some appreciation, spend the money saved from getting Witcher 3 Complete Edition for free, on buying other GOG games you want to play, and support some smaller Dev Teams. You never know, they may become a break out success with their third game thanks to your prior support.

I never preoder games until reviews are available, but I've made two exceptions to that rule.
That was to support GOG, as much as CDPR.
  1. Witcher 3: Turned out far better than I ever hoped.
  2. Cyberpunk 2077: Turned out exactly as I expected, a big dissapointment.
That's the Genre though, as I'm not a fan of Cyborg concept. In both cases though, I accepted the games may turn out to be trash, because I preordered on day 1 of presale. I don't get hyped for any game until I can buy, and play the released base game.

C2077 was no worse (on PC) @ release than Witcher 3, as far as bugs were concerned, most expectations were unrealistic.
In 2015, CDPR were still profiting from the "Indie Darling" label, in reality they were AAA from 2011, when they became a PLC.

Two factors changed things:
  1. The Netflix boost, meant most non RPG fans, experinced a fully polished and patched W3 GOTY edition.
  2. In 2015 console versions of W3 were bad, PS4 especially bad, but by 2020, it was running butter smooth even on the Switch.
CDPR's CEO made a really bad call while under intense pressure from investors to release before Christmas, and he mostly based that on how the 2015 Witcher 3 Console releases were received from the mor understanding, and knowledgable "RPG Gamers™" that bought it in 2015.

The mainstream AAA audience is far less tolerant of bugs, than "RPG Gamers™".
Especially after multiple "Live Service" debacles like Anthem, and Fallout 76.
I'm a Single Player only gamer, and despite being a huge BioWare/BGS fan, rejected both of those on the day they were first announced.
CDPR's good reputation suffered hugely, and deserved it on consoles.

In fact it was CDPR that changed my previous definition of "Indie" from just Self Published, to Self Published AND Self Financed.
Shown most obviously by Blizzard fangirls, claiming an Ex-Blizzard "Indie" Startup, with $100 MILLION in Venture Capital funding.
Self Published doesn't make the grade now, when AAA Publishers were called that, because they were traded on the Stock Market.

Indeed games weren't even directly called AAA in the bad old days.
The Publisher was AAA, because they could, and did spend far more money marketing their games, than they ever did to develop them.
It was the huge marketing budget that shifted the AAA label from publisher to game, because AAA publishers didn't spend that much on all their releases, now they tend to have an "Indie" Publishing subsiduary (Like EA's Private Division) for games they won't spend as much on marketting.

They are not saying mods on consoles - unless they actually announce that.

What they are saying is they are baking some mods directly into the game. That does not mean that you will be able to just add whatever mods you want on console - what it means is that they chose some mods to add directly to the game itself and they will be included as part of the update.

This is exactly the case. Thanks for clarifying this!:ok:

I'm watching the reveal and for a free update with a small team I think it is great.

I have never seen a more disrespectful group of people than the people in the chat though. Talk about a bunch of jerks. :(

Super stoked for the update. Been holding off replaying the game for years now just so I could jump in on the next gen update.

Can anyone from CDPR confirm if the PC version will have HDR support this time around? It was originally only in the One X and PS4 Pro versions (that I know of) and given that I now have a PC setup with an OLED TV I would very much like to use it with the update.

But thx for your hard work regardless.

Sincere question, I watched the stream and the Youtube trailer but I cannot see any real difference with the Vanilla version so I would like to know if I'm the only one that is blind here...
Didn't see any real light bounce from the exterior light source(bouncing on the vegetation) nor from inside light emitting objects like candles(bouncing on walls or other objects)...
I also didn't see translucency and volume(in the trees f.e.) added into the game... What is going on here?

Coolest changes from my perspective:

  1. The new camera angle/mode is awesome, as well as the little mini-map tweaks. Going to allow me to experience my favorite game in a slightly different way.
  2. Cross-saves are an amazing addition since I have the game on PC and PS5.
  3. The new sign mode of holding down R2 and then just clicking a button is amazing.
  4. Obviously the new quest, armor, etc. are cool.
  5. I'm excited to see what the "little surprise" is CDPR hinted at dropping before the release on December 14th. Also excited to go back and explore all over again to see what little hidden things are included.

Can you please confirm if there is going to be separate trophy list for the next gen version on PS5 or Xbox series X/S? I am waiting with playing GOTY on PS5 cause I want to get trophies while at 60fps mode.

Will the next generation update be optional? I want the old version to stay on my computer because I don't have enough hardware and I like the old version. Will this update be separate as DLC?
Will we be able to access the old version after the update?

Super hyped for the Update - especially the new Clouds & RT effects!
One question though - does anyone know if the fade out effect of the trees at close distance will be still in the game?
Would be amazing to have it as an optional feature only since its really distracting.

Oh! CDPR - here is a question...

If we use a PS5 controller on the PC version will the haptic feedback stuff work? :)

I've been asking for the controller layout change since the day they originally announced the upgrade. I even made a mod that could do it but it got broken with a camera mod update and I never could get the scripts to merge correctly again without breaking the camera mod. A thing I missed the first time I watched the stream is the analog joystick will actually be analog for controlling player speed. A big gripe I had with the game was the left joystick wasn't really analog so you basically only had two speeds, walk and run which made it a real PIA to follow another character because they always walked at a different speed than you could and if you hit the run button and got too close you'd trigger a canned response. The other big ask was for higher poly count meshes, especially for the characters. Bare shoulders (which are hard to do right and the first thing I look at) and bald heads should be nice a round and not a series of straight lines. I could immediately tell the difference just in the trailer and gameplay examples, for instance the wagon wheel in the early scene in White Orchard where you save an NPC from a Griffin is round now instead of an octagon.

So far everything I've seen meets or exceeds my expectations, and I can't wait to make a recorded playthrough for my YouTube channel

Just a sign of the times ..... I don't call it Anti-social Media for nothing. I still prefer message boards like these since there is some level of moderation to keep the conversation civil. Free Speech without accountability is just an illusion of Free Speech. Since I was at work when this was live I watched the YouTube cut .... In full screen with the chat turned off

For one I wouldn't be able to make direct comparison videos

Secondly if I have to uninstall and re-install it all the time then I have to spend a lot of time installing all the mods again. I bought the GOTY Edition for $9.99 and I don't mind paying full price if I can run both versions concurrently like I can with AC III and AC III Remastered or Skyrim LE and Skyrim SE. I know $50 is a lot of money to some people and I get that because I've been there before but I'm not there anymore.
