The end of TW2 has Geralt in the same state regardless of all of his choices - he's off to search for Yen and the Wild Hunt. The information about the savegame imports and the fact that this is going to be a personal quest, not a political/world-saving one, work within that context. TW2 decisions affect the secondary characters and the state of the world, but don't directly touch Geralt himself.

That's true, and that's totally fine with me if that's the thrust of the story, and the preoccupation of the vast majority or entirety of the main missions. But they went through so much trouble making us care about Saskia's vision for the Pontar Valley, and stirring up feelings either for the oppressed Scoia'tael or pushing our patriotic buttons with Roche and Temeria, that I feel like the plots from TW2 at least deserve some significant side-quest action. Since they've said that there is as much side quest playtime as main quest, hopefully that means they've filled it with meaningful story arcs that tie in to those events. As opposed to filling the time entirely with interesting but unconnected stories or, god forbid, generic repetitive fetch quests a-la Skyrim (I don't think they'll do that).

I personally do think that they'll do something satisfying, but I worry because I loved TW2 :)

The other reason I swooped on Sardukhar is because I enjoy swooping on Sardukhar.

So.... how big is skyrim.... say compared to new vegas or RDR?

It feels substantially larger than SKyrim -Google could probably tell us.

Skyrim IS large and takes a while to jog or ride around. I rarely fast travel, so I would know.

Skyrim is plenty big enough imo. When you get up to that scale I'd rather devs start adding detail than more empty space.

Skyrim is not good enough, but if anything, it's big enough.

Starting around 7.00 minute - something (but not a lot) on CP77.

(And generally, a lot more background on CDPR "philosophy")

Hmm. Most interesting podcast. Should keep eye out for transcript. ALSO: they "love Skyrim"? Really? Because I liked Skyrim, sure. But it has HUGE flaws.

Heh, they fixed the doors.

"They told us NINE times there will be no level scaling. If you meet a troll, it's just a troll! It will bash your face in!"

GOTHIC is the main inspiration for scaling in the world! Yes!

Still debating how to do the monster-info VATS mode.

The inventory is absolutely going to be fixed. Absolutely.

"The Witcher 3 is going to be the best looking game ever made" What we've seen so far is going to be improved upon even more.

Will be 3D compatible. Plenty of 3D glasses lying around.

Nothing really newsy-news, generally reassuring though,

So CP2077 stuff: in essence, small team right now, just starting. This all took place when they released the teaser trailer, years to go. Would Not Say Anything. Side note: Polish corporate law apparently means they CANNOT give a release date to anyone until they give it to everyone. Go figure.

They're a public listed company, and I guess it would definitely come into the category of important corporate announcements, so yes, that probably applies in most jurisdictions.

The VATS information (or absence of it) was interesting, and I think it was news. I hope they're reading the feedback in the Witcher forums right now because it definitely came into the "controversial" category.

Well, I found the VATS stuff, the idea that it'sbased on having fought the creature before OR having heard a tidbit of info OR reading up on the critter, to be quite good.

Cyberpunk note: years ago, our finest GM had this NPC who used to enjoy practicing with the Team, in the gym between missions. Everyone enjoyed it, they all got skillpoints to spend, happy times all around.

Fast forward a half year or so and the Team is facing off against their old employers. Guess who led the hunting pack to drop 'em? Yeah, their old "sparring buddy" who'd made it his ( or her, been years now) business to learn everyone's moves.

So the VATS thing could be quite cool, as long as it's not God Mode.

I could see VATS-style solution working in CP, where there's an extensive use of ranged weapons and which may not have the "learning" mechanic, but I wouldn't want to see it in TW3, where I'd definitely prefer the "special moves" solution. But I don't know that they'd want to pick a different solution for each game, so I guess it's something else on that we're going to have to defer until we hear more.

Oh, and the 'Love Skyrim" thing is probably because there's been so many Skyrim fans saying that CDPR dissed Skyrim in one of the interviews.

This is a much better interview with one of the devs, a lead quest designer. Very humble guy. He gives more details about gameplay.

Gothic and Baldur's Gate as his main inspiration for stories :)

And I loved the stuff about how being a designer affects him when he plays games.

I liked his take on feedback and the forums. They do indeed read them. Yet the interviewer called us radical....WE ARE NOT BLOODY RADICAL!!!!

I haven't got to that yet. brb.

----------

TIL:
The devs read the forums. Interviewers skim them for five minutes before the interview.

(Oh, and he said rabid, not radical. And I have a few descriptive words about the interviewer too, but I'm much too ladylike to say them out loud)
