The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is "The Next Step for RPGs"

New article with IGN

Nothing out of the ordinary though, mostly what already is known and it looks like we won't get any new trailer till E3 confirmed now :(/> I was so hoping but guess instincts were correct.

And comparing Skyrim or Dark Souls is an insult to The Witcher games. Both are enjoyable but nowhere near as good as either of the witcher games. Having said that, nice read.

Thanks for the link ! And I agree, its pretty daft comparing these things except in specifics, in general terms they are not alike.

If they can fix the below problems it will be the best RPG ever.

“We fixed all of the things that were not perfect based on response to the second Witcher,” says Konrad. “The first of these is the responsiveness of the combat, and of course we’ve remade all the animations. Any time you want, you can cancel an attack and transfer into a dodge or other action, and all these attacks mix together to create very fluid sequences.”

Thanks.

There's some contrition going on here. He's clearly walking on egg shells when he talks about SKyrim.
Where did he mention a trailer? Can't seem to find that bit.

No, it isn't.

I actually enjoyed Dark Souls A LOT more than the Witcher games, at least in terms of pure gameplay.

Where would you have CDProjekt take a leaf out of DS book?

Dark Souls is practically a dungeon crawler. Is it really appropriate to compare that to a story-heavy, c&c game? I have only played a bit of Dark Souls, but I am familiar with the intensity of its combat mechanics, and I agree that they are more enjoyable from that perspective. I wouldn't bother comparing TW2 and Dark Souls, though. I would rather compare Diablo and Dark Souls, and I think that Dark Souls is an improvement over the former.

This is bit towards more what I meant too. As I said, I enjoyed both, I mean I wouldn't play over 200 hours of skyrim if I didn't like it, and dark souls was real fun. TW2 as a game had it's flaws but overall as a game was the epitome of what one could wish for now. Here is to just hoping that TW3 is the perfect game, or the one near it if that can't be possible.

Dark souls has superior combat and item/weapon system. Witcher 2 has far better characters and story. Two great games but dark souls comes out on top for me, gameplay > story/graphics.

Would you be more specific?

What could CDP learn from DS regarding "item/weapon" systems?

Why are you comparing a game where you are encouraged to explore, understand and decide between mutually exclusive paths that effectively change the outcome of events, and one where you well, just KILL? Of course one has better "combat", because THAT is what it is about.

Also first-person shooters have better shooting mechanics than the ballista sequence in TW2.

Looks good. A lot of hype and expectations have been built up for this game. I expect them to at least deliver on their promises. I mean god damn! The amount of news that have talked about what they're aiming to do, how much they want to push the genre as a whole and just in general the ambition of the project seems enormous in size. It would be a damn shame if it was all just empty words and promises...

I think people don't like the lack of murderous violence in TW2, and that's something I can understand. Let's have more vee-o-lence in TW3!

I am joking, I thought combat was great in TW2, but I wouldn't mind it getting tougher, more punishing, and more intense for TW3. And yes, there should be clever ways to resolve conflicts without resorting to combat because some players like that stuff.

I thought you were going to question not the comparison in itself but the conclusion, i. e., say TW2 has better combat because this or that reason.

You didn't.

I know right.
You can only compare TW2 to TW2. It's the only viable comparison. Anything else is just like apples and oranges.

Now, there you have a point.

It's one of those rare occasions where we get to watch a developer talk so profusely about their general design goals while being coy about spilling the beans on actual details.

Anyway, we're still 19 months or so away from release.

Comparing Witcher to Dark Souls is stupid. One is a dungeon crawler focused on melee combat and the other is an RPG focused on story.

For the love of Kermit the Frog, is this a new age religion?! The Uncomparableism?

No it is not stupid.

The terms might be, the conclusion might be, but there are tons and tons and tons and tons of perfectly valid and illuminating comparisons to be drawn between the two games. I find it humorous that if you go up to the Skyrim official forum you're bound to find more than one indefectible fan whom in a knee jerk reaction will get defensive and claim Game ___ cannot be compared to Skyrim because___ . Heck, there it sure was a popular comeback when someone tried to point out TW2 superiority in this or that domain.

So, by all means, you keep asserting that.

I don't mean to be rude or impolite, but both of them are shit compared to TW and TW2.

Dark Souls gameplay> Witcher 2 gameplay
Witcher 2 story > Dark Souls story

Both are excellent games that accomplish different things.
