never done an cpu over before

Really not needed at all. Runs fluidly with an i7 nerfed to non-hyperthreading and 2GHz clock. (sub i5 2400 level).

Not quite sure exactly how that would convert, because the CPU they nerfed was a Haswell, and even if the improvements from Sandy Bridge to Haswell are only incremental, they are still substantial. But you might be able to get full performance out of a 2300, a 760, or even a Q9550. (I have to do a GPU transplant before I can test my Q9550.)

If you're not sure whether or not your computer can run the game well enough, then wait until some benchmarks start popping up over the next 2 weeks.
That will give you a clear idea where you stand.

I have the same gpu as you. If you don't mind - what were you able to push your core / memory clocks to? I was only able to stabilize at +110 on the core and +200 on the memory. @ +16 mV (any more volts and it crashes).

So ~1502 core / 3700 memory clocks.
I didn't win the Gpu lottery, but it's not too bad.

Mine is at +125 / +500

What kind of settings you think I can get with this config:
- i5-4670 @3.4GHz
- 16Gb DDR3
- GTX 970 4Gb GDDR5

Based on the recent report, a Core i5-4670 and a GTX 970 will handle Ultra at HD (1080p) easily, and you should be a candidate for 1440p.

@GuyNwah and other tech-savvy users: which model and manufacturer would you recommend for a GTX 980 upgrade? (They cost the same in my country)
MSI GTX 980 GAMING 4G (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127834)
GIGABYTE GV-N980G1 GAMING (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125682)
ASUS STRIX-GTX980-DC2OC-4GD5 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121905)
EVGA 04G-P4-2986-KR GeForce GTX 980 FTW ACX 2.0 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487089)

About CPU Usage

The German mag "PCGamesHardware" published a teaser for their test of the PC version, which will come next week.
http://www.pcgameshardware.de/The-Witcher-3-PC-237266/Specials/Technik-Test-1158845/

- Performance is good on an i7 even when downclocked to 2GHz and without HT
- Ultra details @ 1080p are playable with a GTX 770 / R9 280X (AMD card perform well)
- 2GB VRAM are enough for 1080p

Don't know how the 980s stack up. FWIW I selected the MSI 970 when building.

Things to take account of, which may not be obvious.
Number and type of power plugs required.
Height and length of card. Can be an issue with the larger cards, especially if the HDD bays occupy the same part of the case as the longer cards... I had to move both HDD out of the way.
Noise. I bought the MSI because it was reported as being quieter than the other cards (same manufacturer list), and had good performance.

All good. Possibly, the Gigabyte is the best of the lot, and the EVGA is the least. As@Lieste said, height, length, and power connectors may be important in your application, and may prevent you from using one or more of those models. The Gigabyte card is VERY long, and the ASUS and MSI cards are tall enough to hit the wall of small cases.

I've been working on one; I don't need GT for German, but real-world work has been getting in my way, and my Collins Unabridged is at home.

Short answer:

GPU, a 2GB 770 or R9 280 is enough for Ultra and HD (frame rate not stated, and I assume HD means 1080p).

CPU, the game uses hyperthreaded CPUs effectively, but does not need them; it is not CPU-bound. They were able to hit 100% usage on the CPU by disabling hyperthreading and underclocking to 2.0 GHz.

They described gameplay as "fluent", without saying exactly what that meant, at Ultra, HD, and those GPUs and nerfed CPU settings.

Called it a long time ago that those requirements were quite off from the true performances and that the 770 would be able to go further than just mid-high as said by the reds (been the case for every game ever created)
but didn't expect THAT good performances. Really impressed with what i've read in that article. :hatsoff:

Gonna bet this is gonna run decently on my old old gt 430 and g620 @768p. :)

None of this is an issue, since I have a full tower case and a 1200 watts Thermaltake power supply :)
However, what if I'll go with 2 MSI GTX 970 in SLI, will my i5 2500k@4.2Ghz (can't overclock it any higher, lost in CPU lottery, lol) and a Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7 motherboard bottleneck those 2 cards in anyway? The motherboard has 4 PCI Express 2.0 slots, 2 of which are running at PCI X16 speed.

cheers. I'm also waiting for this to come out to get a new GPU, most likely a 980.

This mean my 4930k and gigabyte gtx 980 g1 sli wil blow this game out of the water under full HD ?
Sounds really nice xD

Now i am still curious how that sharpening filter will look like when its on.
Not seen any video,s of it yet, my gues is its similar to the witcher 2, that game had also a nice sharp effect.
