Upgrading a gpu to a laptop? Never heard of such a thing.

There are models where it's possible, it's only never a good idea in terms of performance/dollar. The same goes for gaming laptops in general, really ;)

I remember the laptop guy saying that I can buy a better graphic card if I'll need one. Maybe I'm wrong. ._.

You probably can. Only you'll pay a lot and get relatively little performance for it, compared to a desktop system.

Yeah I understand that. I'll see if I can get it running later.

Ah yes if the laptop has mxm 3b socket. Live and learn I'll gues. :)
The only one that would help here would be a GTX 980m, if the laptop supports it, but that'll cost around 900-1000 $. Sheesh. Talk about poor price to performance ratio. :/

No chance... I set the graphics as low as possible... Still way too laggy to play. Is there anything I can do? :(

Try installing the latest patch 1.03 for the game if not already.
Check:
- Plug in power supply
- Lower the resolution
- Make sure there's enough ventilation

If none of the above help you could also check this thread and try the low setting ini tweaks: http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/37293-Low-spec-config-v0-1?p=1677307#post1677307

How can I check if the patch is installed? I can't find a button to install it manually and I don't know if it has been automatically installed.

It shows in the start screen (where Geralt is meditating) in the bottom left hand corner. GOG Galaxy version and Steam version should install it automatically. To retail and GOG manual version it needs to be installed manually. Download link below.

Is there any way to configure the position of the HUD elements beyond 16:9 settings via ini files? It's a bit annoying that they are stuck at 16:9 aspect ratio positions:

Liuhu77, do you know if the 1.02 saves will work after patching the game to 1.03?

Great! Do you know if the first two DLCs are also in that patch?

I also wish it was possible to bring back meditation animation and make it so you could turn it off (when you get used to it and want to save time) and even if it's on make it skippable just like lines in the dialogs.

"I've found a way to adjust the HUD beyond the 16:9 resolution:

In user.settings at Documents/The Witcher3 the uiVerticalFrameScale and uiHorizontalFrameScale can be modified. Make sure to set the file to read-only afterwards!

Here's the regular UIHorizontalScale 1 limit versus 1.3 set manually at 2560x1080:"

Apparently it's enough to change UIHorizontalScale from 1 to 1.3 in the user.ini.

Not sure where to put this, so I'll just leave it here.
I wanted to say thank you to CDPR for good(imo) optimization. Before the game was out my main concern was how it's going to fare on AMD cards. As it turned out it works decently, even though my system is not top of the line(i5 4670k, r9 285, 8gb ram). The lowest fps I'm getting is 35 in Novigrad with a mix of high/ultra at 1080p, while I would've been content with having the same results on medium/low. At least that's what I expected after seeing the preliminary requirements. This result might not seem like much, but it's perfectly playable, because the game does not have random 10-20 fps drops and works smoothly. So thank you again guys.

It's true, Radeons perform very well in this game (as long as you leave out Hairworks, or at least throw in some tweaks to make it more AMD-friendly). Especially the 285 is even faster than one would expect, the improvements in its newer iteration of the GCN µ-architecture pay off in comparison to its predecessor(s), the R9 280 and 280X.

I have to congratulate you guys as this is the best PC optimization for the PC that I've seen, I'm getting 45-25 fps at 1440x900 This is with all pre processing enabled and graphics set to low save for textures=(High) detail=(High) water=(High) and sharpening enabled. Yet it looks even better than Skyrim does on my rig!

My Rig:

AMD Phenom II 1055t x6 O'cd @ 3.4
Sapphire HD 6950-Flashed to 6970 2gb
Gskill 1600 dual 14 gb RAM

Already posted this in the Hairy Bear but decided to post it here as well. Might help some people wit their purchase decisions. A small "tech report" regarding Novigrad.

Reached Novigrad and was expecting a noticeable hit on frame rates there (as performance previews have suggested) but it turns out that unlike most areas in the game which are very much GPU bound, in Novigrad you really do benefit from having an overclocked i7. My 8 threads peak at 90+ % usage with steady 60 frames per second. Lesser CPUs will most likely struggle with this area.

Would be interesting to hear what kind of performance people are having with i5s and AMD CPUs. Especially the former to see how well the game is actually utilizing HT.
