It's a "talk" indeed.. CDPR showed the game to the press in its 3 versions (consoles and PC). About the PC version, the game ran on high settings (not the best ones) on top rigs with i7 4790 and GTX 980. Some reviewers said that, even without a counter, game played smoothly and FPS seemed to be around 30 with some occasional dips. Of course this caused a major commotion between users who are worrying about poor performance and therefore poor optimization. CDPR stated that the optimization is still undergoing and that a top rig like that, after optimization, should run the game on ultra detail minus ubersampling (of course).

Long story short, there is some concern in the air but apart from having our own opinion no one can criticize CDPR for an unreleased product and must therefore wait the relase date before judging performance

Thanks for your replies. To my great sadness I will drop the CE then in favor of saving money for a better GPU (or whole system upgrade in a while) and probably get the regular retail after launch and possibly some videos/performance tests. It would be great if there was some kind of demo or benchmark but oh well.

Preparing the PC for witcher 3, I need advice

Hi eveyone,

I'm really excited for this game and I have started to prepare a pc, so I can enjoy this game in all it beauty. My pc is now this:

2x 4GB Ram Kingston DDR HyperX 1600MHz
1x Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5, Socket-AM3+
3x XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB GDDR5
1x Corsair RM1000, 1000W PSU
1x Ssd and hardrives ;)

Its been used as an Mining machine, but now I have taken it out of service.
What do you think? What kind of cpu du you recommend? I was thinking the FX-8350? and is there anything else I should add. Can I crossfire 3 cards?

I hope there is anyone this some tech knowhow who can help a guy out here:)

I don't think so. Just try to play Ac Unity. If you play that game, there is nothing to worry about. Ubisoft sucks, not Cd Projekt Red.

Any FX-8xxx would be a good choice; the FX-8350 is the obvious one. Couldn't tell you how the game will perform in Crossfire yet. Somehow, Crossfire configurations always end up getting firmed up last.

@erxv hopefully yes. Unless there are some "ultra textures" or with textures mods.

@trondjac EDIT sorry my mistake. What case do you have?

GTX 980 will be enough to fully enjoy the witcher 3 experience? :)

Hey all!

Just out of curiosity, if would like to game at 1080p maxed settings, using some sort of AA like 2 or 4x msaa, or txaa if implemented( nothing like 8x msaa ) , is a single 980 and i7-4790@ 3.6ghz enough to get the magical stable 60 fps?
I saw the stunning realistic nvidia hairworks effect and i thought it will be fine onthe 980 ,so i should pick one up for this game maybe :)

Thinking on preordering the game by the way. it looks so awesome, and actually the developers are very sympathic aswell as i noticed in interviews i watched so far ! I'M realy waiting the release!

Thank you for any answers!

So far, the short answer is no. But the game is still being optimized, and we should expect some performance improvement, though not miracles.

What has been demonstrated is your proposed configuration running on High, not Ultra, settings at approximately 30 fps or maybe better. What has been suggested is that this configuration will be capable of Ultra settings, though a frame rate was not mentioned.

There are "maxed" settings not included in Ultra, such as Ubersampling, that will result in the game being probably twice as demanding. The only configuration proposed as capable of running the game at "maxed" settings is an SLI pair of GTX 980's.

Framerates for a pair of GTx 980 on 4k and 1080

I have a pair of GTX 980, i7 5820k with 16GB of RAM.
However, I have a 4k monitor; what kind of frame rate should I be expecting on 4k resolution and 1080p resolution(maxed out with and without uber-sampling)?
I understand that the game is still being optimized and it doesn't have to be an official comment, just an idea of framerates on both resolution may help. I pre-ordered the game as soon as it became available and just scavenging every bit of information that i can get for now.

Hello! Thank you for answering me so fast!

When i said " maxed out " ( probably i was using the wrong experssion) i didn't think about ubersampling, or nvidia DSR 4k or anything like that .
I meant maxed detail, texture, and all the possible nvidia eye candy settings enabled and aswell some sort of anti aliasing.

So if i understand well gtx980 will probably only run it on 30 fps with high settings( not even ultra)???

They've said it should be good for Ultra, and their target has always been 30 fps, so I think they will meet that. Just that Ultra will not be the maximum settings for the game.

Yes i understand, however its bad to hear about the 30 fps aim on PC , because i think games are much more realistic on higher frame rates.
Probably it could worth to sacrifice the ultra setting and run it on just high if that can provide the 60fps. Anyway i'm looking forward to test it after relsase ! :victory:

Should i buy the 4gb gtx980 or wait for the 8gb version? Will that matter a lot in performance if i want maxed out graphics and really good AA at 1080p?

Maybe for other games, I have doubts concerning this one. 8GB buys you more memory to stash textures in. It doesn't buy you more processing power to run higher frame rate or more extensive AA.

I think atm there are no games available which use more than 4gb vram on 1080p. they usually cap at 3,2-3,5gb

As I know game can't maintain 1080p/60fps with 980 at the moment. At 1080p high-max is possible but for 4k is a mystery.

I think 4k is just not ready yet, it's more about a trend to speak about it than else. The standard now is 1080p and everything above it is not assured to reach. While 1440p seeems to be within reach with a strong multi-Gpu setup (provided you want good performance) 4k is simply too demanding for some newer games. There is no point in sacrificing detail or performance for better resolution (which is essentially admiring the details of bad graphics, a nonsense).

I have a rather unimpressive self made case, made out of plastic and an industrial fan to keep the temp low. Its all situated in my basement, and I have taken USB and a hdmi cabel up to my living room and connected it to my tv. Now I can experiance a noisefree gaming pc :)

You think so too, then it is settled, I'll buy the FX-8350, it goes so long between the time I build or rebuild a pc, that I have to do research on every think before deciding ;.)
Thansk for your help :)
