I was going to upgrade my PC this month but decided I'm going to do it beginning of May.

I currently own a AMD 6950 and an AMD1100t Processor. Great setup but showing it's age a tad.

Any new cards coming out in Q1? Don't think I've heard of any. the 970/980 is all the rage at the moment.

I think 4k is just not ready yet, it's more about a trend to speak about it than else. The standard now is 1080p and everything above it is not assured to reach. While 1440p seeems to be within reach with a strong multi-Gpu setup (provided you want good performance) 4k is simply too demanding for some newer games. There is no point in sacrificing detail or performance for better resolution (which is essentially admiring the details of bad graphics, a nonsense).

I was getting a good deal on 4k so I decided to go for it, with the understanding that i could always downgrade my resolution to 1080p for demanding games like Witcher 3. That is precisely why i am asking what framerates should i be expecting on both resolutions.

Witcher 3 Recommended Settings= Mid/High on PC

Link to article: http://wccftech.com/the-witcher-3-1080p-ps4-optimization-issues/

A excerpt from the article:

According to the report, the recommended PC hardware for the game won't allow players to run it on ultra settings, meaning players will need more horsepower to max out the game and play it with all the graphical features enabled. When asked whether players would be able to max out the game with the recommended hardware, CD Projeckt RED told Witchersite that the recommended specifications are only for playing the game on mid-high settings at 1080P.

Recommended System Requirements

  • Intel CPU Core i7 3770 3,4 GHz
  • AMD CPU AMD FX-8350 4 GHz
  • Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 770
  • AMD GPU Radeon R9 290
  • RAM 8GB
  • OS 64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 8 (8.1)
  • DirectX 11
  • HDD Space 40 GB

So what does this mean? Only GTX 980 SLI can max the game or the game just flat out can't be maxed?

@trondjac wanted to know because 3 GPUs in a case = risk of overheating. Don't know how performs your solution but as long as it keep fresh everything it's ok :D

@AndersonBLUE Amd will release something but still don't know when. NVIDIA will probably release 8gb versions of its top GPUs (production of the memories from Samsung just started) and there's the bigger gm200 waiting for release.

@badsector47 I'm afraid it's still too early to speak about frame rates, especially at 4k. I hope and expect that with your rig you'll be at least able to play maxed @60fps without ubersampling. For 4k it's really too early even for the wildest predictions. Maybe you'll manage to play in high at decent framerates. Of course you can't upgrade so it's only a matter of waiting release, SLI profile, etc :)

So far:
Recommended configuration (GTX 770, R9 290) is believed to be good for medium-high.
Better than recommended configuration (GTX 980) is believed to be good for high-ultra.

Your question pretty much contains its own answer: If any configuration can run at maximum settings (which are considerably beyond Ultra), it will be at least a GTX 980 SLI.

Yeah I pretty much agree. I should have said without uber sampling though. Since I can't even get 60 FPS in Witcher 2 consistently with 1 GTX 980 superclocked with ubersampling on. It does fine until I get into combat then 45-50 FPS. So I always play Witcher 2 with ubersampling disabled. Witcher 3 I will be playing with ubersampling disabled until several years in the future when considerably more powerful hardware is released.

Yeah ubersampling will be out of reach, Badowski stated they are releasing it after a while.. and for obvious reasons. I won't miss it :p

What are the PS4/Xbox One versions said to run at? (medium/High/Low etc)

PS4 is less eye candy than PC, but 30 fps at 1080p, presumably medium, maybe low. It seems that the PS4 can't do the more expensive lighting and shading that PC GPUs can do.
Xbone is less than PS4, 30 fps at 900p, probably low. CDPR has said they are trying to get the Xbone up to 1080p.
Some reporters say the Xbone frame rate is more stable at 900p than the PS4 at 1080p.

Okay so recommended is for medium-high , as i take a look at the RAM it says 8 gb. if i want to play at ultra 1080p will i need to get 16gb? Just because most of today games cap ram at about 4gb. So far only the game i saw using more is dying light which caps at like 6-6,5.

By the way what is so special with ubersampling? its just SSAA right 4x? maybe 8x?? another performance eater anti aliasing.. even if you have 3way SLI 980s and i7-5960x it's not worth the performance hit, because it will for sure look better in 4k with SMAA, TXAA , or what ever.. am i missing something?

Ubersampling has to render the entire frame twice. That's why it's expensive. You render the frame 60 times and show only 30.

They haven't said much about RAM requirements, other than the 6 minimum to 8 recommended for PC, and the apparently same textures on the 8GB consoles. It's 64-bit code, they are not limited to 2 or 4 GB, and by the look of it, they're using more. But I don't see any way they could be using more than "8 less Windows".

(Remember, the consoles have unified memory and don't need to sling copies of resources from main memory to VRAM.)

The PS4 was less eye candy being compared to the PC versions 'high'. It seems to fit more in line with the 'medium - high' settings achieved by the recommended don't you think? Less draw distance / blurrier textures etc than 'full high' settings, seems to be a mixture (with some settings turned to low), it would also fit in with the whole 'all versions look identical' claims CDPR made which sounded like to me to be in context with the 'recommended' specifications (since that's the only time the claim was made).

Don't know what to think of this to be honest.

Will the W3 have multiple antialiasing options ( excluding umbersampling )? And why in so many games is just on/off instead of msaa, txxa etc?

Witcher 3 requirements for 4k

Hello Witcher fans.

I am in a position where I can easily and cheaply get a 4k monitor for my gaming pc.

I am currently gaming on a 42'' 1080p Samsung TV

The issue is , that I want to know if I could play the witcher 3 in 4k with my current rig (very high details - minimum of 45 fps) ? so that I should buy the monitor or not.

My rig

i7 3770k @ 4ghz

SLI 780Ti's (reference cards)

16 GB DDR3 1600mhz

3 SSD's (Samsung 840 EVO)

So is the monitor worth the buy? Will I be able to run it in 4k at a decent framerate (high details)?

Thank you

We don't have any statement whether the game will or won't do 4K resolution. It would be a challenge for any setup, because it's 4x the pixels of 1080p. So, unless a developer wants to comment, we can't answer the question yet.

Nothing have been stated till now by developers. Maybe there will be further details in the following weeks. Sometimes developers don't give us a choice and decide to adopt a fixed AA at a fixed rate. If you feel the need to change in those games, you could force something else from GPU drivers (not always a good idea since the game was meant to run with that specific AA). Hope this answers

In FullHd this is right, but i dont play on FullHd :O :) So my system is good enough, but if i must play in high settings or whatever, it will be not the end of the world. But i think, that is not the case here ^^

I heard someone say the game is limited to 30 FPS on PC? Is this true? It sounds suspicious and I doubt it is correct. It could be right though, but I just want to make sure.

EDIT: Found this article. Can't say if the site is entirely credible or the article is, but it says that CDPR has officially said the PC version is meant to run at 30 FPS too?

Does this mean that the game is meant to run at 30 FPS ultimately or they are just sticking with that as a suggestion and benchmark for people?

No, it is not limited. That was either a misunderstanding or a deliberate misquote, I don't care which, and we're not going to spread FUD by arguing about it.

However, the game is currently performing at 30 fps or not much beyond at high settings and 1080p on very well-provisioned PCs. This will improve with optimization; how much, we won't know until it's done.
