The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’ return of Triss and romance options discussed

Mikolaj Szwed has provided some comments in regards to some of the elements in the upcoming multiplatform video game, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.” In an interview with El33t Online on Sept. 2, the story and quest designer at CD Projekt Red was asked about the potential return of Triss Merigold.

The female sorceress appeared in the original “The Witcher” video game in addition to the follow-up, “The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.” She is a romantic partner of Geralt of Rivia, the main protagonist of the prior titles as well as the upcoming “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.”

Mikolaj Szwed responded to the inquiry of Triss Merigold by stating that he “can’t really spoil much about the characters.” He did confirm that “Crach an Craite, yarl of Skellige” will be making an appearance in the game. He also mentioned that the Nilfgaarding is also going to be a part of the story.

The story and quest designer also talked a little bit about Roach, the female horse that will accompany Geralt of Rivia throughout his journey in the sequel. Although he confirmed that “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” will have romance options, Roach won’t be one of them. You can check out his statement on the subject below (courtesy of El33t Online):

So these characters will return and when it comes to female characters from the books I can tell you that Roach will be there – Roach is Geralt’s horse, so every horse of Geralt’s is called Roach – but Roach will not be a romance option. So there will be some romance options but I can’t give you any names at this point.

“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” will be made available next year on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One platforms. Several screenshots from the open-world role-playing game can be found in the slideshow near the top of this article. You can pre-order the next-generation systems from Amazon in the following links: PS4 and Xbox One

It's a funny name for a horse, because "roach" is a fish of the carp family, Rutilus rutilus. "Roach" is its common name in English; it is a game fish in Britain, where Izaak Walton described it thus, "...the Roach is accounted the Water-sheep for his simplicity or foolishness."

The others (Plötze, Płotka, but I'm not sure about Klepna) are the names of the same or closely related fish.

You mean whether the translation is correct? It is. Most people think it probably refers to the insect though.

Thanks, it's "Plotice" in czech - not suitable for horse at all.

Klepna probably has nothing to do with fish.

Only meaning I know is 'gossip' - but little bit odler expression for that. Strange ... but sounds perfectly for that kind of horse in our language :) ..

About Nilfgaard yes, about horse no - that was new for me :) ..

Nice answer CDPR.

Oh I just realised I thought you were saying "so different" speaking about the news itself and not the name, I must be quite tired sorry. />/>

For the different names for Roach, as far as I can contribute, I find the french translation quite interesting. The insect "roach"/"cockroach" would be "cafard" or, more interestingly, "blatte" in french. Blatte would just be stupid and inappropriate as a name in french ; however, Ablette sounds really good and still keeps part of the semantics.

Edit : NVM I completely missed the point I think, "ablette" being indeed some fish in french. x)

Most of that I knew already (or never wanted to know -- why oh why would he put the image of a romance with Roach into my head? o_O).

But anyway, I'm glad to hear official confirmation that there will be a choice in the romance. I figured there would be, but a lot of people were upset worrying if the game would force Geralt into a relationship with Yennefer regardless of previous choices so they should be relieved now :)

Interesting! I never realized it was a fish. I just kind of assumed it meant cockroach since the horse "survives" everything (or well, since Geralt keeps naming all the horses Roach as if it was the same horse :p).

Well..yea.

Unless he means that Nilfgaard will play a role in the Skellige storyline, which is great. I'd imagine they won the allegiance of one or two clans there, and are trying to bring the Islands to the fold.

Hoping for the politics on skellige Island to be interesting and be a part of the overall war.

In Hungarian she’s called Keszeg. "Keszeg" is also a fish of the carp family and has a flattened body form. LOL

haha so i get cz version : "Płotka" is in polish fish indeed , but also word "Plotka" means gossip , so probably translator thought it would be funny to call her Klepna... its so interesting how diffrenly tranaslator makes all names , like dandelion/Jaskier /Merigold totally different words

Well, those are all flowers, so not really a good example. And since flower names tend to be seen as feminine, the translators have to find one that works for a male character in each language.

My hope as well. Skellige always fought Nilfgaard, and it is nice that now we may have divided loyalties. Also I have great hopes for Novigrad. As a neutral city-state it is a great place for doing politics, for all sides involved - the northern kings, Nilfgaard, the sorceresses, and even the Order and non-humans.
I don't mind TW3 having a lot of personal story. Just give me enough politics, to make sense and to make a difference for the situation on the continent, and CDPR will get tons of my money.

I find Dandelion's name particularly interesting, because it doesn't take a lot of imagination to split it up into dandy and lion. Likewise, the German name for him is Rittersporn, which is a flower as well, and you can split the name into Ritter (knight) and Sporn (a word loosely related to Speer (spear) that is used for all kinds of prolongations/appendages/spits/stingers and other more or less pointy, protruding stuff... and you probably already guessed which pointy, protruding part of him is rather important). Without even knowing it was a flower I thought his name is hilarious. :D

Any such more or less hidden meanings to his name in Jaskier/Marigold or other translations? Especially in Polish, I'd like to know if there's any such thing or insinuating connotations.

Sorry for off-topic.

In Russian his name does not sound heroic, but it is similar to the name of his musical instrument - 'Лютик'(name) and 'лютня'(his instrument). So it makes sense as well.
