That's not really a fair accusation.

The problem with that one scene with Anders, was that saying no earned rivalry points and sounded like you're an asshole, which is dumb.
But after that, Anders didn't express his sexual orientation. At least not in my experience, and he was a constant companion.

Perhaps I didn't choose an accuarte image but throughout the game there were many times where that little "Heart" icon appeared when I was talking to Anders. I would have preferred if he wasn't trying to get it on with Hawke every other conversation. It just didn't feel realistic.

Except they weren't written very well. Not Cortez which is essentially Carth 2.0 and not Traynor with her stupid shower scene.

I am not saying there badly written but they were just meh.

Cortez is definitely not Carth 2.0.
I thought they were good. Not brilliant, but they were good enough.

I didn't see the shower scene so I don't know, but I am talking about her character, not her sex scene (something bioware in general sucks at).

@ Reptile
From what I remember, the heart icon was there if your Hawke wanted to initiate something. Most of the time, Anders didn't say anything really suggestive, unless your Hawke wanted to see it that way.

Idk, I didn't mind. Nor did I consider it unrealistic, considering my gay friends and I flirt platonically all the time, but eh.

I'd like to finally see the thing I've been asking for during the Witcher 1 and 2 development and which was not included in any of the games:

I'd like to see locations which change their appearance during the gameplay, i.e.: one day you come to a city/village in the mountains and after a night, the city is changed - covered in snow, all is white, people are leaving footprints in the snow, steam is visible while they speak and all stuff related with it, including a possibility to just simply slip on ice/snow during the combat.

@KnightofPhoenix

I just hated the dialogue options presented to the player. It was either "let's get it on" or "screw you" - http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/7763/anders.jpg

So each time I was given the option to pursue a romance with Anders, I had to be a dick to him or, well... you know. I almost felt like the game was judging me for not choosing the homosexual option.

Anyway, I think e can both agree that as long as the characters are interesting and well written, it doesn't matter what their sexuality is.

Traynor was certainly a decent character in terms of her writing overall but her romance actually sucks.

As for Cortez. I am not talking here in terms of the overall character but about his romance. He's a man grieving for his dead spouse and the protagonist comforts him with this, eventually leading to them becoming closer. That is why I said Carth 2.0. There's this whole notion of the Carth syndrome going around. Thane has it and Cortez especially has it.

From my perspective they are both far from being the best gay romances Bioware has ever done. The best would be Zevran, and I know he is bisexual but I still think the quality of writing that went into his romance and his character overall is far above whatever else Bioware has given us. Do I still like Tali more? Yes, but I recognize Zevran is the best.

Yes I absolutely agree on this.

Like heck, why can't I make it clear that I am not into this, but still casually flirt. I do it all the time irl.

@ Costin
I didn't try the romance, but I was talking about overall character. Cortez was a good character to me.

Don't know the romance, but he's a "minor LI" if I can put it that way. Certainly he won't be on the same level as Zevran.

No wonder nobody homosexual asked Geralt for sex - the White Wolf was quite famous, Dandelion made a few popular songs about him and Yennefer, everybody knew he was straight. You wouldn't approach famous gay and offer him hetero sex, right?

I also liked that homosexualism was shown in TW books to be more accepted in higher spheres among less conservative people (that means wizards like Dethmold or Philippa). It feels realistic to me.

I have no problem with showing people that are homosexual (or bisexual, or whatever). Just don't make it a whole point of their live.

If there ever be game about Ciri - you may have more luck (she was bi IIUC).

Geralt is not a "make your own" character, he's an old pre-set dude, you can't just turn him gay for the game to be more "open minded."

No one said he must show gay tendencies, I'm very happy with his heterosexuality. We are talking about the world around him, not Geralt's himself. Read carefully again before making a comment.

The biggest issue with Traynor(other than her idiotic romance) is that her role comes at the cost of Liara whose Shadow Broker role is rendered even more moot.

She and Cortez are decent characters(the latter's sappy moaping aside) but it's obvious they were included to score PC brownie points and to appease "romance" niches. This is stark contrast with Arcade and Veronica from New Vegas whose homosexuality is just one aspect of their character and not a defining trait.

I have no problem with homosexual characters, as long as they're well written and befit the environment. I do however fear that singling out sexual orientation as the distinctive feature is the sure route to making them cardboard clichés, walking showcases of alternative lifestyles. You see, we're not talking about literature here, with interior monologue and other rhetorical devices that convey information and feelings without actually having to show them. We're talking about a videogame where things must be shown, else they shan't be perceived. How is publicly displayed homosexuality regarded at the time, in that society? So, by all means, have homosexual characters, do it, do it well, just don't turn TW3 into a pamphlet.

I expected to be wrong by posting without reading the lengthy discussion, but I've seen people wish for Geralt to be sexually blank for the player to choose like Shepard, but I was wrong, my bad.

I understand this a sensitive topic so I'll address it carefully.
Your character is Geralt, a mid-aged male adventurer. So the portrayed sexual escapades are totally in-character.. I just don't see how the devs could supress this natural and relevant section of a man's existence just to appease the god of Political Correctness, so to speak, without watering down, diluting and eventually killing off much of the depth the story has to offer. I just don't.

Could you please explain what you'd leave out, what you'd insert and why?
Not the proper place to talk about it, sorry I don't want to derail the thread and the topic requires appropriate room and space.
Besides, we've talked about this in the past multiple times. Last time Dona opened a fantastic but hot thread about the female-male character characterization in W2.

Don't worry, no intention to touch your hero manhood, neither to step on "politically correctness" and other morality like this. I'm not that shallow :)

Devs know what I mean

-PLEASE MAKE THE WITCHER 3 MORE BRUTAL AND DARKER!!! Like in The Witcher 1. Because you can't feel the extreme rough World with this colorfull Graphics....

-Geralt should be more overpowered against humans in Combat. Because in Assassins of Kings he was to weak in the combats against normal people.

Thats all, The Witcher is a great game and i can't wait to see Geralt in an open world!

We should really be able to tweak the graphics. There should be a Witcher 1 or Witcher 2 mode of rendering the environment.

even if it's just turning down the brightness at night. It'll add some replay value since the game would look different as well.

I don't have Witcher 2 installed right now but if you lower the brightness to 2 or 3 at night it Flotsam it starts to look believable.

They could create brutal tournament quest. Geralt is invited into tourney where he is being captured by some nobles and being forced to fight against few remaining Witchers. No armors just one sword on a tall tiny bridge with deadly spikes or monsters beneath you. Only one man goes home. Brutal enough?

- No Minimap/Questcompass which shows you where the objective is. This ruins all the fun in many open world games. Journals like in W2 are better.
- Some better climbing mechanics - Let us climb like in the Gothicseries (I'm glad they now it lol)and not just in predesegnated spots. This is what exploration means and what people might have missed in the earlier Witcher games.
- No 'grazing' of towns please. What I mean by that is, that if you clear all quests in a town it's essentially dead. That sucks. There should be new quests/activities to do there later.
--> Chapters/Acts: They are basically the way to go if you want to realize the point above imo.
- No mass of boring give/take/kill quests, especially no random quests like in Skyrim. Quality instead of quantity.
- Force me to do the plot once in a while or I will probably be overpowered when I do it/ bored of all the questing -->pacing.
- People should react better/more on Geralt thieving/pulling out his swords.

Chapter's and Acts are gone.
I love the above idea of yours though. People pulling out their swords or reacting pre-emptively in some other fashion could be a cue as to Geralt's reputation. Great idea!
