You should continue playing on Easy Mode. Notihing like finding overpowered gear and killing everyone with two blows? Might as well enable cheat codes, same amount of fun. He is a witcher but this isn't fun. There should always be someone who player should be worried about fighting even with maxed out character. Just like in real life, there is always someone smarter and stronger then you.
Hmm. I personally found FCR to be far more enjoyable than the vanilla mode. This was largely *because* one or two 'effective' blows were all that were necessary ~ but both for him and for you... With good defensive abilities, potions and tactics it was possible to extend the number of hits survivable somewhat, but not enough to just exchange blows. It felt a *lot* more like the combat from the books, or from the TV series... the base game was more like a brawl.
Researching monsters, and using the appropriate defensive and offensive potions and oils was nearly absolutely vital:
Spectres *needed* either exceptionally high sword skills or (and preferrably) spectre oils; Bloedzuigers and Kikimores bindweed (anti-acid); Kikimore and Centipedes insectoid oils; Centipedes, Wyverns, Basilisks, Cockatrice, Salamandra Golden Oriole (anti-venom). Each enemy also rewarded the correct sword technique - particularly for the higher orders within each group, where armour levels might be blocking 95% of the damage caused ~ using the correct (fast) technique could easily triple or quadruple the delivered damage, reducing the opportunity to be hit in return ~ or you could gamble, and use 'group style' to reduce the likelyhood of being struck, offset against a longer fight.
I found the battles where it was necessary to 'run around the room' while you regenerated to be immersion breaking... and *most* youtube footage of the basic game seems to show this behaviour as a norm. On the other hand, a steady retreat with a few carefully selected blows before avoiding becoming surrounded with a single pirouette, a few more blows, etc didn't ruin the feel in the same way, and with people and weaker monsters vulnerable to a few effective flurries of blows the whole combat was manageable without "silly" Benny Hill style combat chases.
