Is she doing a translation of it? The official translation I got was translated by someone named David French.

I haven't read through it yet (I read the fan translations not too long ago so I'm waiting until all of the official translations come out before I read through the entire series again). So I might be a little unfair here, but I'm flipping it open to random pages and I don't like the translation that much. There are a lot of really short and choppy sentence fragments, some awkwardly worded phrases, and the vocabulary seems to be more limited than the translations of the first two books.

I never understood why people didn't like The Last Wish and Blood of Elves English translations, so maybe it's just different taste, but I really thought they were better so I'm disappointed that the translator has been changed.

Oh, old thread so maybe this is old news, but yeah, the English version of Times of Contempt is available, at least in the US. Haven't really had a chance to read through it since I've been busy with school work, but it's just titled The Time of Contempt and it's translated by David French, not Danusia Stok. Only read about a chapter's worth, but the writing seems better than the Last Wish and Blood of Elves translation.

I'm not sure when it came out, but I bought it about a month back, for what it's worth. It's pretty hard to miss since the coverart is from The Witcher 2.

Hey ,

Just joined and wanted to ask if anyone knows where I can find the dutch version of the last wish in epub format?
If I can't find them I will buy them in English but it would be easier in dutch.
Apparently the paperback isn't available anymore because they gonna bundle it with sword of destiny so I hope they will then release an epub format.

I've got all the three so far which are translated in English as well, from Amazon (India for me here)
The new prints have cover arts from The Witcher 2, looks very cool

Book > Games

Im my opinion, the Witcher games were great games and probably some of the best ever but this post was made to raise awareness of the books.
The books have many very deep and interesting characters that did not appear in the games and the actual story of the books is tremendously better than that of the games. The games also leave out some major characters that will make an appearance in the Witcher 3 so it would be better to know these characters and their relationships with Geralt; mainly Yennefer and Ciri. It also shows how he met many people such as the dwarves Yarpen and Zoltan who made appearances in the game. In general the books are a vital part of the Witcher experience and I highly recommend them.

You can find the fan translations of the Witcher saga for free by simply Google-ing it.
Thank you and enjoy

Ooh I understood that by reading the short story by Sapkowski you got with Witcher 1 Enhanced Edition. The games lead me to the books, and neither I or anyone I know had heard of Sapkowski before.

I am currently awaiting to read Times of Contempt, though I thought CDPR's translation was better(Disdain).

Yep, it is great to read the books. I've just read how Geralt met Zoltan. I am reading books for the first time and I regret that I didn't read books before I played games. It would be better experience. But for The Witcher 3, I will be prepared.

I think, both have great ideas and themes. None of them are perfect. But I mix both of them and my own opinion to my personal lore of how the world should be. :)

Can't really objectively compare two pieces from different media. All I'm going to say is that I greatly enjoyed both the books and the games.

I am glad someone had idea to adapt those books for the game. Books are maybe better, but just in case of story. Other aspects are incomparable.

It's nice you want to propagate books, but it's not necessary to compare them with games. As I said, I don't think it's possible - not even the best and the largest game with the best devices can compete with the most suitable processor for those awesome stories, which is used during reading ;) also other aspects (precise describtions, long deep comprehensive stories, many and many characters,...) are not achievable (in game world), so it's better to say..
Games .. awesome
Books .. awesome

I like them both, poor translations notwithstanding. I do think the games tend to do one thing better than the books I've read so far, and that's dialog.

The books are terrific, and so are the games. CDPR did it right - they set their games after the book saga, and now we have a single story of Geralt. For those who did not have a chance to read the books - go and do it now.
We have fan translations here for books 2,5-7, and you can find download links here:
http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/16494-Our-Community-Fan-Translations

Books 1,3, and 4 have official translation, and can be found on amazon and other booksellers. If you poke around the net, you'll find links to download them for free as well. Google is your friend, as always.
