It's time to hit the books!

Hey there fellow err,,, Witchers?

Okay so I'm pretty damned new around here, with all the hype building to release of the Witcher 3, I've decided to jump into the series once more. I played the Witcher 2 many years ago on 360 and I'm currently on my second play through on PC, boy this world has really sunk it's teeth into me this time.

For many years I was an advocate of Skyrim and the previous Elder Scrolls titles, but the lore, world and characters of The Witcher have certainly seen my RPG interests shift to the world of Tameria.

I've just finished up with the 5 part comic series and wanted to jump into the books, as I understand it there are a collection of short stories, and then full novels. Is there any best place to start? And do the games anyway adaptions of the books or are they separate stories?

Cheers for any answers guy's, looking forward to being a member of the Witcher community in the build up to my most anticipated game... of well forever?

Welcome! And you should start from the beginning:
Short story collections:
1. The Last Wish
2. The Sword of Destiny
Novels:
1. Blood of Elves
2. Time of Contempt
3. Baptism of Fire
4. Tower of Swallow
5. The Lady of the Lake
Plus, there is recently published prequel book called 'Season of storms'...
I don't think that all of the books are officialy translated in engilsh, but you can find very good fan translations at this forum...
Games continues after the events from the books...Witcher 1 starts few years after the end of last book in the series...
BTW, if you haven't already, you should play Witcher 1 ;)

There's more news about Dutch translations. Times of Contempt is coming out on 15 January.
So they are slowly catching up to the English translations.

I have to disappoint you that I don't have an answer to that one. I just want to buy the whole Dutch collection once they are all out. :)

Never understood this, tbh...How the hell the Witcher saga was translated and published in my language years ago? And language is spoken by maybe 15 million people...Sapkowski is not even popular that much, books are printed in 1200 copies - and they will sell a few hundred at best...
Also, first official Season of Storms translation was serbian :D

To be honest... I don't know. Italy was the only european (maybe?) country to not get these books translated before the game came out, since the first book got italian translation in 2010. So I can only throw my 2 cents: lack of faith from italian publishers is the first reason coming up in my mind.

:p

[SUB]And italian publisher for witcher books is known for interrupting series, so just imagine how people lived in fear for a couple of years...[/SUB]

With the current quality of translation which is already far from perfect, it's good they aren't releasing them any faster. Let them better spend time on improving it.
