I already have the fan translations ready to go. I would rather read the official paper books but I don't think they even announced that they are doing the Tower of Swallows yet :/

No they have not. Also they have not yet officially translated the Short Story Collection "The Sword of Destiny". Might want to read that as well if you haven't already.
Ah yes I learned the reading order before I started to make sure I got in at the beginning. I already read through the fan translation for Sword of Destiny. My actual favorite is probably Grain of Truth from the Last Wish however. I couldn't actually tell you why, I just really enjoyed the story and it really stuck out.
I can't decide which one is my favorite. They are all so good. But yeah "Grain of Truth" stands out among the others.

Geralt does not know that she is involved, does not even know of the existence of the lodge itself. She can't tell him:
"Well excuse me, I was involved in that"
"In that what?
Yennefer has remorse "how will I look into his eyes?", she could not even imagine that her involvement into that gene matter would eventually turn out this way. Even Triss said "If Geralt knew...". No sorceress knew what was going to happen in "A matter of price", at the end we readers understand that Geralt, Yen, Ciri were already linked since that short story.
So now she regrets a lot of things and she is afraid she got Ciri into trouble, and goes out in a desperate search of Ciri, fleeing from the Lodge.
Then Yen asks the lodge to save Geralt's life and to clear her name from the charge of treason. Of course, as we know, Philippa didn't agree.
Yennefer truly did a lot of things to find Ciri and help Geralt. This is how she apologizes, her acknowledgement.

I have small question.
At the beginning of Blood of the Elves, Yennefer expresses gratitude to Dandelion for something. My suspicion is that it's being a close and loyal friend to Geralt. Is there something to confirm that?
Also is it me or is Yennefer "softer" and more into Geralt at the start of the novel saga? In the short stories I never really understood what's she doing with Geralt, she was kind of mean, abusive and the situtation was either tense and unpleasant or melancholic when she's with him, the only time when it was actually "pleasant" is in their first meeting at merchants house. So I know he made that wish, but I doubt the wish is making her 100% in love into Geralt, just ties her destiny, and that can be in many ways.

Since his relationship with Yennefer had at best cooled off, the witcher was not in the best condition. Our beloved Poet and Master Spy was there to keep him company and lighten his mood. Isn't he the best?
It is indeed quite hard to recognize Yennefer's motives in the short stories. Read on my friend and you will start to get to know her better. After you're done with the Saga, and whenever you have time, reread the short stories, and more secrets will reveal themselves to you, regarding Yennefer's attitude and character.

So I've gotten half way through Lady of the Lake and can't take it anymore. I'm the only person I know both IRL and online who had read / is reading these books and I need supportive shoulders to cry on!
I was just sitting innocently enough reading in Starbucks and realized that when ... things happened ... no one around me, in my friends circle, or online circle would understand. So now I'm here reaching out to all of you. If I should be posting elsewhere, just let me know please!

I have only read the fan translations of the last two books.
However I can tell you that asheral, the guy who did them did a great job. I would say, that with a little effort on correcting the minor grammar mistakes and whatnot, the fan translations would be better than the official ones.
So in my opinion, give it a go, since like you said, there is no chance that the books will be translated before TW3 comes out.
If it means anything, I believe asheral translated all of the books, with the help of another guy at the start. I think. All in all, the translations are great. READ!

I've read through these two books a couple of times and as StaGiors said, bar the grammatical mistakes the translation is pretty decent.
I'm also hanging out for the official translations of tower and lady.

I started to read the fan translation of 'The Lady of the Lake' some time ago and I was surprised, because I didn't expect it to be that good.
Well, I also was surprised when I found out some books aren't translated into English yet, because you know ... I always tend to think all these books translated into German exist somewhere in English.
To all readers of the Polish version here: Do you know if there exists something like a dictionary for staropolski? Because I'd like to read the original, but Polish isn't my mothertongue and I have problems to understand some old words. And I have no chance to find them in my dictionary for modern Polish, which is, sometimes, quite frustrating, especially when you don't get the meaning out of the context.

I'm so glad I read these. I'm also really surprised - given the popularity of the games and hype at 3 - at how long it's taking the English speaking world to catch on that the books even exist! I'm inflicting them on all of my buddies who play the games, and they are equally as shocked as I am that none of us knew about them.
I actually ended up going to Staples and printing out copies of the fan translations just so that I could pass them around my friend circle. Not all of them have ipads or kindles ... and we aren't allowed to have those on the job anywho (but our night shift is allowed to read paper books).

... it's really obvious how much CD Project Red writers love this series. Finishing the books just makes me want to go back and replay starting at the beginning of 1 just because I KNOW I've missed a whole lot of content / tributes / references. Regis' lover owning that brothel, the barkeep who tells you a truncated story of Ciri's "adoption", Queen Meve cursing Geralt's name every time she hears it. And those examples are just what I remember from before having read anything!
And the little tiny things from the books that become huge in the games -
I'm still digesting everything. But I gotta say ... I'm super super content with this series. And I'm MORE than ready to go after some Wild Hunt blood now that I know exactly who and what they are!!
