The Witcher Coming To Steam

Here is the info:http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/51723This is great news for those of us who like steam. The only problem is if the Extended Edition version will be Uncensored for the US? If not, can I get a UK version on steam or will I have to import it? :p

Yayz. Hopefully it'll be uncensored.

Don't Steam games require you to be online to play them? I don't accept hassle like that. Copy "protection" is a pain enough without also having to rely on my choppy net connection. That's what happens when you live in the middle of a forest. :wall:

There is an offline mode where you can play your games with the internet off. However, I do agree that having an internet connection to run games is not great, I prefer it to having to have a cd in the cd tray. Also, it is great that I never have to worry about loosing my cd disks, so it has pros and cons about it.I wrote this in another thread and did not want to rewrite it:It was just announced that the witcher will be coming to steam which is great because I love steam. However, if the enhanced version for the US is censored it will piss me off because I will have to import it from oversees and stick with a physical copy. Sad Does steam have to follow the same rules regarding censorship as the brick and mortor stores? I am just wondering if they would have a problem releasing an AO title? Has CD Projekt RED STUDIO asked if they would release an adult or unrated version of a game to the US/Canada?

I'm glad to hear they have an offline version now. Paradox Interactive is going to allow customers to get the download version of EU: Rome if they preordered the box. I love flexibility like that. The uncensor patch should work with the Steam version, right? I'm not sure though that an AO title in the forefront of the US market is a good thing right now. You know how election season is...and I've heard that only Obama is against game censorship.

It doesn't have to be AO, they could just have a nonrated unedited version. The problem with the patch is that I will always feel that it is a gimped version. The witcher would sale a LOT more if they give access to the unrated version. There is still hope they will sale the both versions in the US,

Steam is fine. It's not viral (that was debunked like 3 years ago) and works like a charm, though a tad slow during primetime.I just hope they use it to release more frequent and smaller patches.

The problem with steam is: you don't realy "own" what you buy there. You pay for being able to download and play. The game I buy in store is my property. I can resell it anytime.

actually, Steam(ing pile of poo) still crashes my system... and This is the 3rd Generation of PC that I have built.I accedently installed steam, because it comes as part of the ATI default driver install, and on re-boot, my PC just fell over like a whore with scabs, slow sliggish and constantly scratching its HDD. And this is on a clean "just that day built" system with nothing installed on it but XP and Mobo drivers. I had to resort to booting in safty mode and spent almost 3hrs removing the steam virus from my registry. Its dangerous, its constandly scavanging your HDD for licence info, its constantly sending consumor research over the web about what your doing (unless you know how to turn this off), it basicly acts like maleware, and the licenceing is all buggered up if you change your PC, so the £££ you spend on downloading games is wasted if you make one false move, like, say your Mobo brakes.Poinless waste of resources. Steam is just a rediculus idea thats popularized by force. (HL2 for example, you MUST licence it over the web with steam before you can play it, I meen how stupid is THAT, at the time of HL2 release 75% of my mates didnt have web access and the other 25% were running 56k modems!!!)

Umm, no. I never had any problem ever with using steam and all my games associated with it when playing on a different computer it was first installed on. I have gone through 3 completly different computers since HL2 has come out, and all my games ran in all 3 computers just fine. There was no hassle from Steam what so ever.Instead of making BS claims, why don't you just shut up.

No BS claims m8, Im telling you my personal experences ;)I think telling me to shutup is quite rude. Im just voicing my "consurnes" on why atari are about to make a whopper of a mistake.Steam for me, and a "handfull" of others have cause grave "difficalties" on our PC's.

Making unbased claims of a program being faulty becuase you're terrible at computers is pretty rude too. Since you don't even bother spelling, I can't really believe that you take anything else seriously either. Steam stopped being bad years ago for almost everyone else.Or are you going to argue that 25 million users are liars?

1) Whos site technologist? Ooo that would be me then!.2) yea, so what I cant spell, you got a problem with that? wanna take it outside and I'll show you what a person with a spelling disorder can do? eh? Or do you want me to contact my lawer and have them deal with your pregadist towards my spelling disorder?

No, I'm just saying in my world (which is the real world) there are still people who have "issues" with installing a resource hogging and rights violating program like steam. Or are you going to argue that every program ever written is garanteed to work on every single hardware configuration in the world? ...get tech savvy yourself, fan boy!

That has nothing to do with Steam.

It's not "resource hogging" nor "rights violating", so I'm arguing that you're a troll or just misinformed.

You MUST have steam running in the background, online or offline to be able to play a steam game... agreed?I'd say thats a pointless waste of resource. surly once a game is verified the first time, steam no longer needs to run in the backgound.

HL2 is a good example. You perchace it in a shop, you THEN have to validate your already perchaced copy of the game over the web Via Steam... Agreed? Why should I have to do this, when I have just perchaced a legitimate copy from a shop? That is violating my rights to play the game! What If I didnt have internet access (and there are people out there still who dont), I'd be stuffed!Steam also stops personall modding of games downloaded by steam. Only "official" mods by modders who have payed a modding fee will work... Home made mods for personall taste are blocked. (violating rights of modders with official mod kits)understand? now can we be friends again?

That doesn't make it resource hogging. It's just idling, or possibly checking for updates intermittently.

Mods are allowed. I've played a few. In fact, google for HL mods and you'll find many that work with Steam, and are completely legal. Now if you want to SELL a mod that's different, but then that was just as illegal before Steam.I'm not sure if you need to be online to install and play HL2 at all, but I haven't tried doing it offline. Besides, hardly anyone lacks access to a broadband connection nowadays. In the worst case you can always go to a friend or relative and ask to borrow theirs.Look, I'm not going to convince you to like Steam, but you don't have to; except for Valve games and exclusives, Steam-available games can be played fine without Steam. So you can keep playing The Witcher as you always have, while I just go through the Games menu and then do pretty much the same thing.

It was a big hoo har a few years ago when HL2 was released. Many people couldn't play it because you had to have steam running, you had to register it over the web, and you needed net access just to load the game. ADSL and Broadband was still not avalable in most areas of the UK and very fer people had Dialup. Valves Attatude was "oh well, no web, no game!"Steam is a fallacy.
