So I heard so much good things about the witcher, I decided to try the demo first before buying, seeing as there was one. When I started playing, the game had big fps dropps during fight scenes and when turning the camera around in OTS view. Also when I fighting multiple enemies, the demo stutters as well.My laptop is a Gateway P-173X-FXWindows Vista 64 bit8800M GTS 512 mb video card4 gb ramcore 2 duo 2.20 ghzCan anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Wow, thats a stacked labtop you have. Its odd that its not running the demo smoothly with those specs. Best I can say is make sure you clean out your old drivers with a drive cleaner and reinstall new ones. Look up info to find out if the lastest driver for you graphics card is the fastest. Otherwise you may have to resort to an older driver. What other games have you played on your labtop?

Another thing I just though about. Labtops are known to cut your speed in half after 15 minutes of use. This is to save energy on your battery. You'll need to go into your control panel and change the power settings to Home/Office Desktop or Always On. You'll also need to go into your Bios and turn off this EPU (Energy Processing Unit) thing if it doesn't work. You might need to do both, depending on the computers. You can find out if your computer is cutting your speed down (similar to a volt drop) by downloading CPU-Z. It will give you on the fly speed of your processor. Wait 15 minutes to 30 minutes to see if your speeds changed. You might also need to download a fan control program. You'll want to put your fan speed at full power. The EPU also helps regulate the temp of your processor. If temps exceed specific degrees, it will power down a bit to cool.

yeah the last post guided me into the right direction. I found out that my laptop's battery was set to power saver which seriously killed performance. I turned it back to default and its all working again perfectly. Thanks for the help guys and once the Enhanced Edition comes out, day one purchase for me :D

Here's my story, I got the demo, and installed it. It didn't work, error said there was a problem with DirectX V9 not installed, well I have Vista and it has V10 installed. Anyway I searched and searched the forums here and a link to the fix was posted. Had to get some SDK DIRECTX from microsoft. After that I was able to start and play the game. Then I downloaded the patch and a language pack, put the two files in their own folder on the desktop and tried to run, after a few install windows popped up, it then shows an error saying that it cannot patch my game because the Witcher is not Installed Correctly???? I moved the patch folder to where the wicher files were located, and still no luck....same error. I decided to unintall the entire game from my hardrive and start fresh. Even with a fresh install, the patch tells me that the wicher is not installed correctly. I can play the game fine, so I dont know the reason for this error. PLEASE HELP!Anyone here have a solution to this crazy error!

DirectX10 does not supercedes DirectX9, each has it's own libsand no, the demo can't be patchedUpdated the OP with some info too
