Makers of Daggerfall and Morrowind! Oblivion was crap, but at list it was playable quality product from the start, and even though it's very weak RPG wise, I did get my 50$ fun from it and then some. With The Witcher I payed 50 dollars for a box that lying on my shelf cause it's by all means unplayable, unless you are sadomasochist and like to seat staring at the loading screens for longer than playing the game, loose your nerves over the bugy combat, crappy animations, clones, terrible dialogs, crashes... As for the evidence about Fallout 3 it's pointing in a completely opposite dirrection of Oblivion. But one thing is true, Fallout 3 is gonna screw over every other game that will foolishly relise itself at the same time, regardless of what Fallout 3 is gonna be... So your EE is screwed.
Really man, this is all a matter of personal opinion. I bought Oblivion too, and played the first 5 minutes then had to put it aside, there was nothing in it to draw my attention. months and months later, as I saw there were many expansions packs, I downloaded all that was free and bought all that wasn't (Shinning Isles, Knights of the Nine, etc, etc... ) hoping it would add more to the game and make it more interesting.... still crap. Sure, bug-free, nice landscape.. but nothing to really draw my attention, just.. "bland".. a guy running free in the world. Nice, you can come and go anywhere in the world (yes, unlike Witcher).. but what the h**l is the story?? I get nothing from it... some portal opened somewhere? There are monsters comingo from it? Wait.. I have to go through that portal? Close it? The story is ridiculous.. It is a FPS game with medieval weapons. Now, the town, (dont know if there are more.. I´m talking about the first city you come into the game... ), the entire population is under 8 people, 6 of those being guards... the town is a collection of stores with 1 or 2 guys walking around and where a simple peasant woman would put up a hell of a fight if you attack her (yes, an unarmed peasant woman against an armed Nordsman). The game has absolutely no flavor at all.. there is no story, the character are.. nothing.. just figures moving, no one feels like a person.. it may be a nice game to pass time, go around exploring, fighting stuff (even peasants and crabs.. which any of both could kill you...).Witcher for me was completely different, yes, it's silly to see the same figures over and over, the fat guy, the old woman the common peasant woman and the red-haired woman.. you don't have half the "freedom" of Oblivion, you can't go around wherever you want, every act you are limited to a piece of scenario. BUT, things feel f***** more real, I have never seen more real people in any RPG, they have their lives, they walk to their jobs, the kids go play with each other, they look at you when you pass by them, they are distinct individuals with their personal characteristics. The story of the game is amazing, yes, little confusing but still amazing (give'em a break, it was translated from a different language, and it's nothing trivial given the complexity of the storyline) , it draws you into it, makes you think. Your character is an actual person, it has needs, problems of his own. The Witcher feels more real than any game I've played. Now, I had only 2 bugs for the entire game. One was a freeze but due to excessive overclocking the video card,. the other for some reason my most recent save wouldn't load, had to load from one before.. sure, it was a litte annoying, but nothing terrible (the fact that the game uses a new save slot everytime for the first time proved useful.. lol..). There is a lot of loading, yes, but for me none has taken over 30 seconds (and this being the first load, which is always the longest one), it's usually really fast, very frequent, but fast. The fighting mechaninc was much more interesting than Diablos's mouse destruction, Oblivion's never-got-it-right, and Neverwinter's just-control-the-wizard. Sure, there was a little bug concerning the mouse click responsiveness, sometimes you'd click to continue the combo and nothing happened, had to start over.. but oh well. Now, Oblivion it was a complete waste of money for me, I fell forced to play it jsut because of the money spent... but it's hard.. I can't play it for more than 30 seconds before it bores the hell outta me...Again.. just personal oppinion. This non-enhanced-4-char-models version of The Witcher is a gazillion times better than Oblivion and one of the best RPGs I ever played (still considering if it's better or not than Baldur's Gate...).If Bethesda had half of consideration for their costumers CDPR has , they'd make an entire whole new game and give it for free for whomever bought Oblivion. If Obsidian had 1% of that consideration, they'd release NWN2 Enhaced Version free of all the 300 more bugs and crapy playability it has over the Witcher and also give it for free (I love NWN2, don't get me wrong, but it's too poorly done, fells a lot more "hurrried in" than TW).
