Just wanted to mention that I've now completed in excess of 25 minutes of brand new original music for the upcoming community module "Births and Virgins".This new music is in the style of The Witcher using a lot of central European folk instruments but with all new themes for the new characters. I've written new ambient music, new fight music, new menu music and music for cutscenes. To create this I've used a mixture of industry-standard samples (from Tonehammer, Project SAM, VSL, SoniVOX, Spectrasonics and East West) plus live instruments (violin, oboe, clarinet, flute, wooden flute, piccolo, wooden piccolo and acoustic guitars).Anyway, I'm not sure when this will be released but if the rest of the group doesn't mind I may demo a sample of the music at some point soon.

Right, we've decided to let people hear some full tracks. So far there is about 24 minutes of music written but I have another cutscene left to score and that will be another 90 seconds. Here is the final version of the menu music http://www.jamessemple.com/bv/menu1_final.mp3Here is the opening cutscene http://www.jamessemple.com/bv/bvintro_final.mp3This is fight music (designed to be looped) http://www.jamessemple.com/bv/fight1_final.mp3Finally here is some ambient music http://www.jamessemple.com/bv/amb1_final.mp3Please remember that this is original music composed by me and try to respect that. If you wish to use it (other than for personal use like putting it on your iPod) then give me a shout and we can chat about it.I also have to shout out to my friend Lisa for such exceptional woodwind playing.cheersJames

Thanks for the comments people. It was a huge amount of fun to write. Adam has already created a wonderful palette of sounds and themes to draw on and reference. You can probably hear a reference to the main Witcher theme in the bvintro piece at the end (as the Witcher first arrives). Otherwise, I avoided actually using the existing themes directly. I did make use of Adam's excellent work with central European folk instruments (particularly hurdy-gurdy, cimbalom and Irish whistle). I also used a similar modal harmonic language in my compositions. The team had a very specific sound in mind, keeping much of the tone of the original Witcher score but without some of the bigger symphonic sounds or contemporary sounds. We went for a combination of small string section, woodwinds and folk instruments. I also added live acoustic guitar for a couple of tracks.I have to say that it has been a huge amount of fun writing this music and it really brought out the best in me. The Births and Virgins story is really very strong and it was inspiring to write music to support it.
