The Witcher IRC Channel

Based on a suggestion for a Witcher live chat, I have started an IRC channel called #witcher on GameSurge if anyone wants to join. I have already submitted a registration request so it should be persistent soon.

You can download and use any IRC client. There are probably thousands out there. A very simple option is downloading the ChatZilla add-on for Firefox. An advantage of using IRC is that we can all access the chatroom from virtually every possible platform out there, including Android.

There are times when the Hairy Bear is so full and active that everytime you refresh, a bunch of new posts show up. It's almost like a delayed chatroom. So why not have a real-time chatroom? It could be like a room of the Hairy Bear where we hang out with a virtual drink and talk about anything and everything.

There are currently two of us logged in, so come join us!

Edit: #witcher is now registered. Feel free to join and chat anytime you want. Maybe we could set some predefined time frames when most of us are available, like US-evening EU-morning or viceversa. In any case, enjoy it and let's keep it clean and civil

You can also make some XMPP chatroom for that. I prefer XMPP over IRC in general. As a client I'd also recommend using Pidgin - it's very flexible and supports tons of protocols, including IRC and XMPP.

great! although I don't much 'chat' except on facebook and steam, that's why I add forum members who I talk very frequently on facebook and everyone on steam. I don't go to the chat rooms even on paid sites I'm in.

This makes me to suggest, why not have a chat room here? I mean integrated on the site.

Facebook is weird with their IM - they use XMPP, but their server isn't federated, so you can't chat with Facebook users from other servers. Normal XMPP servers are federated and don't require you to make an account on them to chat with their users (i.e. you can add their contacts using your server). No idea what Steam does for chat - I don't use it at all, but I don't think there is much point for the Witcher site to run their own XMPP server - that would be a bit of an overkill - there are tons XMPP servers with open registration around, where you can create the Witcher chat room if you wish to, and others can come there using their current XMPP users.

I think such chat room could be more interesting if CDPR devs / designers and etc. could come there once in a while for live sessions. It's Volsung's idea - that would make it more exciting, but I'm skeptical that they'd do it. Their modus operandi isn't the same as in open source projects which use IRC/XMPP channels often to interact with their users

I sounds great! If CDPR guys accept to partcipate.

But, about me, everytime I've tried to follow a conversation in an English chat, the time I read one line, I translate it in my mind, I think a reponse, search the equivalent in English and write it... well, users have change of subject 3 or 4 times!!!! />/> />/>
