Then I would say to that it is inherently at odds with the concept of an MMO. MMOs typically represent massive investment on the part of the dev/publisher and anything other than a tidal wave of players is considered less than successful. Sounds like you want something that is not an MMO, but more like some kind of DMed instance of witcher 3 where you can play characters other than Geralt.

Sounds interesting anyway, definitely not what I think when somebody says "witcher online". There sounds like there are several barriers of entry that would need to be overcome, including heavily moderating online activity. We all know how that goes.

Who knows though, Cyberpunk 2077 definitely sounds like it's inspired by Cyberpunk 2020 so it follows they have a pen and paper inspiration.

Yes, I think GM (Game Masters, who are equivalents of Dungeon Masters but in on-line RPGs) are critical for successful multiplayer RPGs. They usually serve two important roles - moderation and maintaining in-character environment, as well as engaging players in various roleplaying events. For example PlaneShift is one such MMORPG, where GMs are volunteers (and the whole project is run by volunteer contributors as well). I really enjoyed it in the past when I was into it. Without GMs games usually fall apart and become OOC chaos.

I'm not sure about the "massive" aspect. On one hand, having more players is fun, on the other hand as you said, scale must be managed properly.

Call me crazy, but i, for one, would absolutely love an MMO set in the Witcher-verse. Not only are the choices for character builds diverse and promising (Witcher dwarf? Why not?) but there is so much space yet to be explored and so much lore to draw from that it would be silly to dismiss the idea outright. Plus, there's that whole multiverse/Spheres thing going, so there is plenty of room for expansion. i know, i know; it's a pipe dream, but frankly, those are my favorites (and the only type of dreams i seem to be having at all as of late)

It was discussed right above why WoW is not a game like that.

@nelidim: Can you please remove that blinking image from your sig? Its REALLY annoying for the eyes. For now I'll just use adblock plus for it :)

There are lots of MMORPGs out there dedicated to online play. Why can't we have something dedicated to the well written, hand crafted and intimate single player experience as well?

i agree with u greg on this. i rather play a great single player game than a great multiplayer game any day. dont havta worry about crashing, buds, hackers, people annoying u stealing ur quest items making u havta sit and wait for them to respawn.

A big NO for me and I believe CDPR understands this and I hope it stays this way. Take a look at Elder Scrolls Online, it's a complete mess and doing The Elder Scrolls series great injustice.

Why failures of some should be used as examples of how it's a bad idea to make an on-line game in general? Sure, don't do it like them. As if it's the only way.

There's a big reason why games like the Elder Scroll, the Witcher not suited for online experience, particularly the fact that the rich storyline will get diluted and dumped down. You will also see tons of Geralt wannabe with names like 'Geralt12345' running around killing and looting random monsters, ksing you along the way.

Not to mention with the Witcher made online means, there will be bosses that are farmed 24/7, character npcs will become generic and not as alive as they could have been. The level of immersion will go down much lower and that's something that I believe many of us don't want to see in the Witcher series.

To sum it up, the online experience will seriously hamper many of the details and immersion that offline play would enjoy to the point that it may destroy the Witcher series image and CDPR for that matter, which I don't think what the Witcher community and the developers want.

@White_Wolf77: This was already discussed above in this thread with examples how such problems can be avoided (as long as maintainers of the game are interested in it of course). See a few previous pages.

I'm glad that many others that replied to this thread share the same sentiment as I do and that is NO to the Witcher Online. Let it stay offline(single player) do not ruin its uniqueness.

What it's like to play online? #Hyped

Preordered it on ps4! Haven't played the previous versions yet & thinking of buying them on pc but
I was thinking about The Witcher 3 Online
Will it be like Diablo 3, Elder Scrolls Online or Gta 5??

There are no plans for Witcher online so far.

Also, see above what kind of problems such games face.

No no & no. What ain't broke don't fix. No no & no, so much no thers's no more no that can be put into the barrel of NO!

Seriously No.

Nothing kills immersion than a squeaker crying over loot, see what happened when Elder Scrolls primarly a single player game turned MMO? HUGE flop, just no.

Witcher is about the experience of a personalised game based on your decisions not some mass production food chain.

Best to describe it.

Single player is like a restraunt, MMO is like Fast Food now days.

A picture says a thousand words & this says it perfectly.

No no, so many times no.

What does that suppose to mean? What kind of fixing is on-line game expected to perform? May be you have some comments on the substance of this topic? I.e. for instance why you think on-line roleplaying is harder in the Witcher world than any other settings? Or why it's harder to manage? Except for few commenters above who actually discuss this topic (like @redwood36), all I see in this thread is "oh, no, just no!".

I wouldnt mind a paid expansion pack for Witcher 3 that would add a online co-op. Up to 4 players, u create and customize your own witcher and hunt monsters together. Sounds good.

The idea of an MMO for this world set in post-Geralt times will be desirable for many actually and I for one would love to see it.

God please dont let CDproject abuse the Witcher franchise for a boring, generic grind MMO garbage! Play Dragon Age Inquisition, if you want MMO feeling. But leave the Witcher alone :p
