The Witcher Organized Mod Database

Hi AllI recently developed a Mod Database for the Witcher, I included everything that i found. You can see them here.http://gamemodscore.org/downloads.php?do=listings&catid=6If you think there is something missing, please feel free to add it, and make it a more complete and organized DB.My sites main functionality at the moment is about Witcher and Bloodlines Modding. So feel free to explore. if there are any questions. then ask. either on the site or here.

Actually, you have only a fraction of the Witcher mods there. It looks as if you got most of yours from ModDB. There's a list of all the fan-made adventures right here on the forum, at http://tw1.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=30094.0 and a list of all the non-adventure mods -- also right here on the forum -- at http://tw1.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=30091.0. Those lists are much more complete than yours. Also, you are listed as the author of every mod. This is not cool; please fix that.Witcher mods can also be found at ModDB and at The Witcher Vault.

The addon, ill fix it in a bit, though it is stated in ALL of them that i was the uploader. Anyhow, I will try towards completeness, and I will achieve that goal soon.dont get me wrong the thread thing is complete but all of them are listed in text form, no sample image or thumbnail. i think what im trying to do is a bit easier. and quite frankly, it must be, because here wasnt built to upload mods and such, but i actually paid 50 dollars for someone to make, customize and install the addon on the forum. so i guess you understand my point here.if it doesnt bother you until then, you can see my point posted in a hidden form you cant access but the request is made: http://www.dragonbyte-tech.com/threads/2597-Author-amp-Uploader-Different?highlight=authorother than that. I will have a temporaty fix by editing the codes my self. which i hope it makes you happy.

For nearly all of the mods, the only name I see associated with them is yours. The page for the Extreme Immersion Mod doesn't mention Roxtar -- the real author of it -- anywhere. The page for the adventure "Entrapped" doesn't mention Fantasta anywhere. The page for the adventure "Medical Problems" doesn't mention me anywhere. Listing yourself as the uploader is okay, but you need to credit the real authors somewhere, and for most of the mods you've uploaded, that hasn't been done. As far as I can tell, the only mods that credit the actual authors are the ones where the author mentioned their own name in their original write-up of the mod.Attaching the names of the authors to the mods shouldn't be an afterthought, and it shouldn't be something that you do only because I push you into it. Anyone who loves mods enough to make a modding site should be grateful to the people who made the mods -- grateful enough that he doesn't have to be prodded into listing the actual authors of the work!

Ah that's pretty interesting.....so I guess I'll save my oren for you, Mc.v9, later on, when you'll fix this little issue. I guess it should be fast and easy to do for a geeky boy like you, don't you think?I guess modders like Fantasta, Corylea, Roxtar, Hexenmeister-Raven, Flash ect, will be grateful for this too.

the issue is fixed, for everywhere except the download page. http://gamemodscore.org/downloads.php?do=listings&catid=7everywhere says its Uploader, except one place. and thats the download page. I will fix that by going template by template changing one word at a time. it will take time but I will do it, so you better give me that oren !!! (^_^)Actually I copypasted their Readme into the description. most of them had the name written there. If anyone is not busy and knows who did what, can come and help me on that, i know roxtar, so i can fix those that are his, but others never heard of them, and Flash, i put links for him !!!But no worries, right now that i have the thread list, i can see the authors name easily and i will put their names if it was there. so Corylea . . . how about an oren ? its gonna be hard work (O_O) lol . . .joking, I will fix it all, as long as you are happy, if you are not happy then I WONT !!! (>_

I don't think it's appropriate in its present form. You should take it down until you have completed the business of obtaining permission and giving proper credit for every mod.You should have the author credited on the page for every mod.You should have permission in hand from the author to host the mod on your page. You should not put your name on any mod in any way that might lead to creating the wrong impression that you had any part in producing the mod, unless in fact you did do more than merely upload and host the mod.In the absence of an "Author" column for each mod, your "Uploader" column does in fact give that wrong impression.Your "Author" entry on the detail page for each mod does in fact make the false claim that you are the author of all these mods.Leaving the page posted in its present form is plagiarism, and it is offensive in the extreme.

Finished, Done, Finito !!! it took me a while but i changed it phrase by phrase.regarding copyright I have taken consent of each one, it took me a year to do so.I talked to Roxtar a year ago, to Corylia as well, she sure wont remember but if checks the PMs she will see. Flash, I talk to him very often, and many of those that are on ModDB i sent them a Pm ONE BY ONE. maybe some didnt answer, most did. I asked everyone to upload it there, themselves, but they mostly told me they were either "Too busy" or "Too Lazy" no problem if you dont believe me, I can show you the PMs.Now can I have my oren now ?! and one from you too Guy N'wah, since you reminded me of all those tireless days searching and sending PMs. Kidding, no need to send me Orens if you dont want to, but it will surely motivate me to do more big stuff. Im a moder myself, and I had worse situation that this.Someone actually stole my demo back in the old days, did a little reverse engineering (like changin names !!!) and submitted it as his own, now THAT is Plagiarism, not promoting other peoples mods :)Believe me when i tell you that I can get more visitor by just slapping the name of a lame and mindless game, that will flood the site with visitors, but i decided to sacrifice all that and go with my heart which is the witcher something i loved since 2005 (Before it was released). so please dont see this as a pathetic attempt of attention, see this as a sacrifice for a community. if we cant support and love each other then who will ? certainly not bioware !!anyway, the problem is now fixed, i will put the name of all those that are missing, in the following days. so no problem.

We understand your good intentions, don't worry. But if even one of those modders didn't answer to you, you simple shouldn't add his\her mods on your site. Anyway, the main issue still remains the credits (since you told that MOST of them gave you permission). It should be loud an clear who are the authors of those, not just the uploader. Have you ever seen NeverwinterNight's vault database? I guess you already know it.Perhaps you're mistake (if I can say so) was to show up to us your tiring work too soon. Excess of excitement, maybe. If you waited for a days or two to correct any single mod's pages and credits before showing in the forum, it would have been better.Anyway, all's well what ends well. I'm sure next time there won't be this kind of problem any more.

nice way of thinking outside the box the forum and highlighting a word. very smart indeed.anyway, maybe there are one or 2 I havent asked, I will do it now. and the problem is that I cannot completely fix the issue regarding perfect Uploader/Author relationship until the download mod on the forum is updated, and thats due in 3 months, I couldnt possibly wait that long.thanks for the oren (^_^) pumped up with motivation i will ask those who i think i have not asked. I hope there isnt a timed licence, i mean if the guy was ok with it one year ago, he should be ok now, right ?anyway, I have set up a new report system. if the file does belong to a modder and wants to report it, he can click on the report button and tell us that we didnt ask him or that we didnt put his name, and we will do what ever he asks us. is that fair enough ?

Hmmmm???A nice idea, but make sure that you have all the permissions before you host any mod and the work is properly credited. You have to be careful when the copyright issues come into play. For example, "And A Curse, and Love, and Betrayal" is "heavily" copyrighted and that's a bit of a problem with getting all the permissions. "And A Curse...", to put the very long list of names short, was created by The Bards(Muzykanci) & Fantasta with a little help from SC Team. Hosting is something different from linking to the author's page, to the ModDB page or something like that. Serious companies send emails and ask for written permissions, like, e.g. German companies did to host and distribute three of my mods. Of course, I would be the last to threaten a fellow modder with a legal action, but you always have to think twice before you publish anything that belongs to someone else (in part, at least). Not a long time ago some modder made a Morrowind compilation and what a stir it caused. Writing proper credits for all the mod makers is an absolute minimum. Of course, I am aware of the fact that there are sites which host mods without any kind of authors' consent and that's not the way to go, you at least tried to get most of the permissions. Thanks for your efforts, cheers.

It's a very good and nice piece of advice. Thanks a lot Fantasta :)If I may suggest you another thing, Mv.c9:when I hosted an artwork which is not mine in the DamNation for example, I follow this procedure:-ask permission to the author (which is the basics, of course)-having his\her response, put the artwork in the gallery with fully credits and links (example: this or this one)-contact the author again notifying where he\she can find the submission and possibly checking if I missed something and if he\she agree what I've done. This procedure has been applied to any single artwork uploaded on DevianArt and for Olga's pic hosted in WWiki as Yennefer. I know that this can take long and it's annoying but it is how it should be done any time with something which has not be made by yourself. Luckly among us-fanboys\girls (I mean about fanarts in general) anything is quite smooth and has minor problems with copyright etc. Most of fans are friendly and kindly allowed you to use their stuff "for free" (which is quite rare in this world, believe me). That's why the minimum thing you can do is put fully credits. Remind that some of them may not be so kind and generous. Some may get really pissed off if you use something in a way they don't like and I guess that no one would like to have some kind of legal troubles (which are mostly annoying and undesired). So it's always better to be prudent, meticolous and precise in details, than having worse annoying troubles.

What? have you never register a game? LOL :DI'm kidding ^_^When you click on Witcher.exe and the launch window pops up, click on register my game. Or you can double clich on a file named register.exe into The Witcher folder on your pc. Then enter you reg code and it's done! A small wolf head will appear on your avatar pic in the forum. But please, fix the credits issue before, which is much more important than registering :)

About adventure - and love and curse and betrayal - i received an email with a question about permission for putting adventure into Mv.c9 website. So his website is in good relationship with our adventure.
