The Witcher Patch 1.5 problems and solutions

+
Licaon, I have replaced the movies file with the one you had attached. Unfortunately it had no effect on the crash. It is my belief the crash begins with the main menu audio stream, and is not related to the bink video, or the .dll file used. The game fails directly after "The Witcher" title is displayed, as though it cant proceed beyond that point. Bypassing the opening sequences has yet to effect the stability of the game. As of now, I have no leads to resolve this issue as it seems to be embedded within the games files. Whatever has changed within the operation itself, causes the problem. A new patch/hotfix will be needed as this issue has been pronounced on various systems. Two of which are on this thread. Call the coders and devs! :'( -Hooks::EDIT/UPDATE::Who can I speak with directly related to technical assistance? As far as I am concerned the game is...and has been broken since launch. Since its very release threads have been filled with technical errors posted by users. Here we are years later, and I still cannot complete the game due to technical issues. Now I cant even get it running at all on my main rig. I just completely reformatted a partition on my alternate tower, with completely different hardware configurations. Getting all kinds of strange sound errors and animation glitches. All clean installs of current driver releases. Not a happy customer. For Christ sakes even Electronic Arts of all companies who is notorious for faulty releases can have their games at least run for 5 minutes before encountering an error. I have done everything within my power. Forget this game running on any i7 platform it doesn't work. Might want to add that to the list of ongoing failures. Why and how did this title ever get approved to carry the "Games for Windows" border and log when it does not even use OpenAL, let alone have anything more than lackluster operation on Vista x86/64-bit Operating Systems. When it works. All I hear is how good this game is. I want to see it. The funniest thing is developers blame hardware. Well, when your game is the only one not working...who can you blame? :2nd UPDATE::This is what I mean...http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-US/Games/Pages/TheWitcher.aspxHow? False advertisement? Or flat out marketing ploy? Either way it is false representation. As I have tried both x86/64 bit Vista and without OpenAL. I have no idea how this happened. I can tell you that vista gamers, primarily Vista 64 Ultimate users like myself take comfort in the "Games for Windows" seal. As this means compatibility certainly isn't an issue. Answers? Patch? Help?

This is a serious and persistent issue and I would greatly appreciate any advice. I run Windows Vista SP2 with a Radeon HD 8800.
Just so they can assist you better, since there has been a moderator response in sometime on this thread. List your correct video card. ATI does not manufacture an 8800 series if I'm not mistaken. Also ensure you are operating under current DirectX (March2009) as the shader optimizations ATI does use were specifically addressed in the End User and SDK. Also I recall seeing a thread documenting the area you are describing as troublesome for other users as well.

My system is an Intel Core 2 Quad, 8 gigs ram, SLI Nvidia Quadro 3450 X2, XFX 750i mobo, 1TB Seagate HD WinXP/Vista64 dual boot with installations on each. Currently focusing on XP install. Upgraded to 1.4 last night then 1.5 and now game will not start again. Had previously been playing 1.0 with no problems. Once I click Launch the splash screen disappears and nothing.

I played the EE v1.4 till the end of Act II and it ran like a dream; there were no problems anywhere. However immediately after the 1.5 patch I'm having crash problems in the Trade Quarter. Only in the Trade Quarter, though. Here the game is laggy all the time and has the tendency to hang at unexpected times, especially when I'm entering there after spending a long time in the other areas. In the latest instance it hung when I was saving my game after returning to Leeuvarden having completed the Sewer and Swamp quests for the Salamandra documents; I ended up having to replay half an hour. This is a serious and persistent issue and I would greatly appreciate any advice. I run Windows Vista SP2 with a Radeon HD 3870(stock clock). The processor is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+.

ATARI: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=4549.0 i guess...as for GfW and the others i can't really speak... i have no idea how they test there... also, it's rather hard to compare Nov. 2007 hardware on Vista/XP and July 2009 hardware on Vista/7/XP... it worked for them then, it works for me and others now... they called it ok... :hmmm:i'm had this working on Windows XP & 2003 on 32bit and Vista & 7 on 64bit and in Linux under WINE ( with it's issues none the less ) so... in the end...it's not hardware, but maybe a combination of hardware and softwarefor now, i don't have any more advices, you might try a Windows 7 installation if you get a chance and see how that goes :hmmm:

that's not an issues with patch 1.5 or the game... it's rather that the previous chapter where lighter on the resource needs, the chapter 3 town is way bigger and liver so it needs more power, my advice: lower the game settings until it gets playable :wave:eek:n Vista do disable Autosave too

read: Getting tech help on the forum and attach that PCWizard report as instructed ( use the older version of PCWizard if you have problems with the newer one )do attach the file ERRLOG.TXT from The Witcher/System folder after you updated to patch 1.5

So I wasted my money and two years time waiting to be able to finish this game? I already have been through beta testing on Windows 7, and RC2. For the 3 Frames per second difference and all the unnecessary operating system functions I am waiting for the official release. Besides Creative Labs drivers under 7 are very unstable on Direct Hardware Audio based games. That would be "The Witcher." Onboard audio is another story. That is why 100% of the games released since early 2007 have been OpenAL...to avoid such issues. Its one thing or another with this game. Either it runs with problems. Or it doesn't run at all. With one person unable to launch the game when any other title works should be enough to go back to the drawing board on another patch. Successful companies support their community. Whatever the field may be. Or the community stops supporting them. As for now until there is some good news, or information in the right direction. I am finished here.::EDIT::Here is another thread with patch 1.4 same issue I have described on Different operating system and hardware. http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=24756.0Ironic how the problem persisted through 1.4-1.5

disable and quit Unlockerget the latest nVidia drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/object/Quadro_winxp_x32_186.18_whql.htmlreattach a new errlog

Those drivers don't work. They render my screen at 640X480 4bit color upon reboot everytime. I've installed the latest drivers from nvidia for my 2 nvidia quadro 3450 sdi's, 182.65_quadro_winxp2k_english_whql.exe. The nvidia website says to download these drivers if you have a quadro sdi product and I do. I disabled Unlocker also. I've reattached both files again. Thanks.

Personal suggestion. Workstation GPU's and gaming don't mix very well. A lot of that has to do with scaling and animation algorithms within NVIDIA's drivers itself. Quadros are more for graphics design workstation scenarios than actually playing the games themselves. Although they are powerful processors, they suffer because that power doesn't operate in the same manor a gaming graphics card would. Also if you meant 3450 x2 meaning two cards(SLI). Under XP use these drivers for your 3450's XP32- http://www.nvidia.com/object/Quadro_winxp_x32_186.30_whql.html Vista 64- http://www.nvidia.com/object/Quadro_winvista_x64_186.30_whql.html These were released yesterday for Quadro cards, and seem to address some ongoing issues. Goodluck. ::EDIT:: Make sure to manually delete the NVIDIA temporary file left behind after installation. This can also improve boot time as NVIDIA control panel only searches for one registry entity.

Licaon, here is a more recent issue of the same one we have been discussing. It is becoming a larger majority now. http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=24834.0 We need answers.

I still have not been given a solution for my game to run. Sad that I spent $50 on this game and I haven't even been able to play it once...

I just bought the game today, the Enhanced Edition. I installed it then downloaded and installed the 1.5 patch. I click to launch the game and nothing happens. I've already tried everything listed here: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=17503.msg484889#msg484889 The game still won't start. I get a "The Witcher has stopped working" windows message and have to 'close the program'. I haven't yet been able to even start the game. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You are suffering from the same issue I am. Right now there is no known solution...yes it sucks. Let us keep our fingers crossed the developers are correcting this issue. As for now. Do what I do. Play the other hundreds of games that do work. I too have been waiting to play "The Witcher." Only difference is I have been waiting since its first release. Get on it guys. Three of the identical issue has been reported just in this thread alone.
