i'm also havin problems with the new enhanced version. down loaded all patches and fixes and fricken game wont even start up..it says the witcher encountered a problem and needs to close..wtf...this is crap..my specs are pentium 4 cpu,3.07 ghz 1.00 gb ram..graphics card geforce 7900 gt/gto.....here is error report

Hey I have the "Witcher has encountered a problem and needs to close", error. Have not ever been able to play this game. Started with the 1.4 EE retail dvd, then got the message, updated vid card drivers, same message, updated to 1.5 (.1304), same message, read some more and tried the move the sound acceleration down one knotch thing, same message. Here is my PC Wizard report. Have just uninstalled TAGES also, same message.

get the latest DirectX: http://downloads.guru3d.com/DirectX-End-User-Runtimes-(March-2009)-download-1943.htmlalso, get the latest nVidia driver for you: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_190.38_whql.htmldo attach the file ERRLOG.TXT from The Witcher/System folder ( after running the game if it crashes )

So I have downloaded the 1.5 version and installed it. But while i'm playing the game and i press the windows desktop button, I see standing below ''The witcher 1.4.5 .1280 ''. And when i'm going to program files it says that the product version is 1.4.5 1280. However, when i'm starting the launcher and press check for updates, the site says i got version 1.5. I can play the game without the cd as it should be with the 1.5 update.So why is it saying at those points i have 1 4 5 1280?

ATTENTION: Those who are having issues getting the game to start:I finally found a solution to my problem, no thanks to Tech Support. It was another member of the forum who figured it out. You can read the post here: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=25010.msg5321019 I feel it's important and should probably be added to a stickied topic as a known solution.This applies to people who are getting an error message on trying to run The Witcher: EE or only seeing a black screen before crashing to the desktop.Hope that helps some of you.

Not everyone's computer saavy. You don't have to be snarky about it. You felt the need to say the same rude thing to Siomonte when we were just trying to help. :/ No harm in drawing attention to the solution.

I think it's 1.4.5.1304....or something like that where 1.4 is still the first numbers you see.Regardless, If it works... why worry about it? Didn't you also say that you don't need the disk to play after installing the patch? And I guess you don't have a problem or don't use EAX? Really this 1.5 patch was released just for the EE versions of the game. With it's main purpose of removing the disk check. Those with the orginal already didn'tt need the DVD to start the game. And the Blur fix/EAX Hotpatch was already availiable for download, months before this 1.5 patch was announced. Although it messed up the sound for the movies in my case.... which I've already posted about and found a fix for.

can you make your systems PAGEFILE to 4096MB ( both minimum and maximum setting )....Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Performance: Settings -> Advanced -> Virtual Memory: Settings

I keep trying to install the 1.5 patch and when I run the setup it closes and tells me it "cannot identify the installed version" and can't update. I have the game, updated to the enhanced edition already, so I am not doing anything wrong. Anyone know how to fix this?

I tried to install patch 1.5. The installation got interrupted because i had not enough file space. So i deleted some older games, tried starting the patcher again. Now i get the message that Witcher is not installed properly and cannot be patched.The reason is pretty obvious.. but i'm angry, because i did not want to spend my only free day in this week with un- and reinstalling the whole game. A good installer should check available disc space before touching files. :wall:

14 March 2009, 09:28:57...i should of remembered that, right? ? ? :evil: maybe attach a recent one anyway, yep, dual core, can you post the dates of your MSS32.DLL and BINKW.DLL files?or you can try to overwrite the file thewitcher/system/miles/mss32.dll with the one from the thewitcher/system folder ( as the file from the miles folder is not updated )

Heh.. got caught up on something.... and geez what's up with this post space thing... When I reach the bottom it starts jumping all over the place and I can't access the bottom hardly at all. Anyway here's the new dxdiag file.As for MSS32.dll and Binkw.dll..... umm...MSS32.dll the miles one is: 7.0.20.0 @ 379KB 7/28/07 the system one is: 7.2.2.0 @ 440KB 4/22/09As for Binkw.dll I have nothing on that via an explorer search on my system. I do have binkw32.dll files, though..... 1.9.8.0 @ 167KB 4/22/09copying over that mss32.dll had no effect. I'm going to try that other guys tip, if I can find the same version number of bink on my PC....------edited, fix verified as far as I'm concerned:tgfmfc had the solution... it worked. Binkw32.dll version 1.9.1.0 @ 168KB, totally worked. I'm very impressed. Heh... took me about 2 hours to find it online, too. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FKAX1IR9 I'd give him karma, but apparently I don't have enough points... oh well.... Thanx anyway tgfmfc. I've been trying to get a fix since the hotpatch was realeased.... damn... Forget about highlighting stuff and editing... misspelled words....
