The Witcher Remake is in development!

As much as I love TW1, I will keep my praises and excitement at bay, there's still lot to see how CDPR will handle this whole remake project, TW1 is not your typical mature-rpg, things like sex cards or whoring in our day and age of gaming wouldn't translate well, especially among the people who mostly care about shoving their political views in other peoples throats, besides after CDPR ESG spectacular showcase we already got our glimpse of future, but I've guess will see!.

We are thrilled to announce that The Witcher Remake is being worked on! That's right, the game that started it all is being rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5.

The game is currently in the early stages of development at the Polish studio Fool’s Theory, where veteran Witcher series staff are involved. We, as CD PROJEKT RED, are providing full creative supervision.

The Witcher Remake is what you might know by the codename “Canis Majoris”. It’s still early and we want to ensure that the game is created with the utmost care and attention to detail, therefore, while we’re excited to share the news with you, we want to ask you for patience as it will be a while until we start talking about this project in detail.

“The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger,” said Adam Badowski, Head of Studio, CD PROJEKT RED. “Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting, as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games. They know the source material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.”

What a beautiful news for today, after our long asking for a remake finally we will soon be able to play it on the newest engine and HD graphics.

This is the most interesting blurb, by the way. I am curious what they mean by 'early stages of development'. Does that mean that the game is still in pre-production? Or does that mean that it has already come out of pre-production and they are actually working on the project at this point?

Seems like it could be the difference between us getting the game in something like a 2-3 year window or a 4-5 year window.

YES !!! I hope it will lead to a full Remake trilogy one day that better unfies the story. Story changes or additions are needed. I would love to have consistency regarding Geralt Scars origins, Iorveth in W3 one day etc. Maybe a new take on Witcher 2 with Dol Blathana or Wild Hunt battle at novigrad one day? This Remake opens the door in itself to infinite possibility of reinterpretations and improvements. I can't wait for this Remake. I just can't imagine how great it will be since 1 has such a good atmosphere. 1st game is masterpiece material. This game remade with experience can be down right glorious.

This is good, it's a good game but has one of the jankiest combat systems I've ever played plus it is a isometric view game engine that was poorly adapted to 3rd person. There is just no player agency in that combat system it's just QTEs and canned animations with very little room for improvisation. Proof that not even CDPR liked it was they immediately developed their own game engine for Witcher 2 and completely redid the combat system.

Intrigued and excited as I am for basically the second attempt at Rise of the White Wolf, I do hope the original stays available after this remake is released. You know, just in case.

That's a good question. Also: will it be available on old gen or only new?

Considering they dropped support for ps4 and Xbox One for Cyberpunk. I take it that applies to all their games moving forward. Now, who knows how long dev will take. There is a good chance that by the time this comes the ps6 and next gen Xbox could be out, coming out or announced.

Nice to hear, but I won't be too excited about it until I see some screenshots and in-game footage.
TW1 had incredible atmosphere and this can be really tricky to recapture in the entirely new engine.
I hope for the best, but, if not - the original version will still be there for me...
