I like this idea - it's not a problem to ignore that if that would be bad. I like that TV serie, which is already made - there is a lot of mistakes and bad parts, where they wanted to be original and changed story for no reason. But I still like that.

People, you have to keep in mind that alot of HBO-fans don't play video games and that they have to aim their stuff at the main demographic. This will never happen because the average viewer will just think it's to similar to game of thrones(even though it isin't) As cool as this would be I don't see how it would succeed.

2D animation yes please. 3D no thank you. I have enough.

Problem is: low budget 2D animation sucks even more. Unless they make a movie, a tv\oav series most of the time suck in quality. Too many examples out there.
I doubt Japan would be interested in getting the property, for two reasons basically: they normally prefer to do something "japanese" of origin; they prefer to do something closer to their culture in contect, subject and theme. Westerns media and stories normally do not go under this hat, especially The Witcher I think.
I talked with a japanese girl once who told me that Lotr movie was half a flop in Japan, cause japanese couldn't really understand the subject. In fact, japanese fantasy is totally different and in some way more simplistic compared to the western. Think to Lodoss or Claymore.... (and Berserk too).

Would be better if they just made a web-series like Halo: Forward until dawn, and it will still get atleast 1+ million views, wich is more than most TV-shows.

They put too much sex scenes in their series like in games of thrones. I like sex, but sometimes its there just for the show and not in the books.

Outsourcing? A studio would do anything for money. What about those Gotham Knight and Animatrix shorts those were made by japanese.

Why not 3D like 52 and a half? 2D would be okay but I can't imagine Geralt being colored flat and having no textures. They'd also have to reduce the details of his costume back to W1 lol.

Gotham Knight animation sucks like hell. As for many other batman-non batman animation. I am talking about "animation" not the quality of the series itself. Batman TAS for instance is far better than any Batman movies, in my opinion, Bruce Teem characters design is superb, the screenwriting and direction as well. But the animation (meaning movements, gestures and so on) are very low quality. Most of the western tv animated series (from Disney to cartoon network) are made by eastern countries workers, like chinese, thai, koreans and so on. Mainly for low budget reason. Recentely even japan is delocalizing their animation to less expensive countries.

Animatrix is a collection of short single movies, to make one film. It's totally different than a tv series case, and in fact most of the animated movies and anime have a greater quality. Compare for example Revolutionary Girl Utena movie and Revolutionary Girl Utena tv series. Or Berserk movies and the first old series. I could make hundreds of similar example. With the introduction of 3D animation movie animation has become easier in a way, especially for action scenes requiring special effects. Think about NGE last movies.
But as I said: please, do not compare tv series animation with film animation. There's an abyss between.

Regarding 3D animation: I am personally very tired of it, especially I am tired of seeing 2D animation sacrificed for the sake of 3D reminding videogames, thus being more appealing. The last stab has been Disney closing their 2D animation studios in Burbank and firing all the animators included the historical ones.
As for the 3D per se: I don't understand what's the point of pursueing hyper realism. I watched the last Batman AO trailer (to name one recent) and I am seriosuly not impressed. They pretend to be more realistic than reality? Ok, so where's the creativity? The unique artistic design?
I think that the last Nolan's Batman movies or the Avengers could witness pretty well than combining real actors, 3D and special effects can make an acceptable result. Not to mention than a teaser trailer 3D quality can never be the same of the internal videogame 3D animation and quality (for limits of platforms performance and hd). So in the end it's like a misinformation of a tv ads: the item you buy is different than the one they're advertising. They could tease teenagers, but they'll never tease me, who mind to the substance.

Am sorry but i am gona go ahead and call you a troll, or tell you that your taste is really odd if you consider The Sopranos, Rome or any of those series i mentioned, as "bad"!

One thing is that you don't like them, but call them bad? just like that?

I hope some people might use Redkit and Motion Builder to create movies for The Witcher. I would love to do that, but I have no idea how motion builder works and I have enough work to do. ^^

No one calls troll another, especially when expressing his\her opinion. Please, let's not raise the tone.

Nobody has raised the tone, since when has the word "troll" became such an "offensive thing" ?

Anyway, all are free to express their opinions, and i know not everybody have the same taste, but one thing is saying:

- "i don't like them/ i don't consider them "good"", and giving reasons as why that is a the case.

And a different thing is saying:

- "all of them are bad/ they all suck" and giving not a single reason as to why...

The second one, from my point of view ain't very polite, and can be considered as raw negative criticism, and that in a way, can be seen/considered as "trolling"(at least by my definition/interpretation of the word) ...

PS: i could have said that the polish Witcher tv series sucked balls, but i limited myself to say that "i was not a big fan of those".

PS 2: None of them Series would have millions of fans and had won multiple Grammys(among other multiple awards) if they were plain bad...

If you want to play with words....

and for the record, yes "troll" is offensive. So settle down now, please. I understand you may feel hurted when someone dislike things you love, but responding to a "considered insult" with another insult is not key. I won't argue about this any more.

I think it's perfectly OK to say that something sucks balls if that's what you think. Another thing is pointing at someone because of their opinion and calling them names, like trolls. Since when is troll *not* offensive? Unless you're "trolling down the street" or something, but I digress.

This has happened before. People start a thread about a random thing they like/want, and when they realize some people don't share their sentiment they get defensive. And the whole idea of a major production based on The Witcher has been discussed before too.

Eh, quality TV is such a mad gamble it makes the gaming industry look safe. So often you see directors, writers and actors give their everything and then get brutally cut down, while the 9+ season sludge keeps chugging along with a 20 million viewership.

Though at least we can fantasize about some casting...

You know I'm content with the Witcher staying as a game and books for now. I don't really have anything against HBO or anything but, well meh.

My hope is that Sapkowski will pick the pen back up and write more short stories and we could have a "Random Adventures of Geralt" series.

I did not called anybody names, i think people is overreacting because i used the word "troll", also one can say something sucks "because of this or that", but saying it sucks and giving no reasons is a bit unpolite and can be considered in a way, trolling....

Anyway i think this had moved on past that point... so no point on bringing it about.

PS: Maybe it's just me dreaming of a place where people can be polite and give real arguments, pro and against things, in stead of raw negative criticism for the sake of being negative!
