The witcher series story recap for newbie+some qustions

Hi
I have never player any witcher game nor read any book/comic.But,The Witcher 3 seems great and i would like to play it,as love medieval fantasy, open world games, rpg etc.The thing is that i have no time to play the 2 previous games until the release.
So,i searched at the witcher wiki and youtube,so that i can learn the main characters, the plot so far etc(also i have watched most of the trailers). After this small research,i gathered some basic info for characters like Geralt,Ciri,Triss,Yeneffer, the "Charles Dance" king, organisations like the Witchers and the Wild Hunt and generally the situation in this universe.Furthermore,i roughly know what happened in the 2 previous games. But, i am still confused....SO I WOULD BE REALLY GRATEFUL IF SOMEONE MADE A STORY RECAP FOR ME AND ANSWERED THESE QUESTIONS:

-What are the motives of Geralt in this game?To save Ciri?To stop the Wild hunt?To reunite/save yeneffer? To stop/win an ongoing war?Or are all/some of these connected?

-Speaking of which, what is the current political situation? Why does that king want geralt to find Ciri?To save her or to kill her?

-What exactly are the motives of the Wild Hunt? Are they supernatural? Are they after specific people or whole kingdoms?I know that they cought yenefer and geralt,or something,in the past, but why are they after Ciri? What is this Elder blood?

And some more general story questions:

-Are there many decisions in the game?Do they have important consequences?

-Are ther many storylines,or one main storyline? Are the side missions connected with the plot? How much % is the story?

And finally,a couple of gameplay questions:

-Combat seems a little bit poor and boring. Is it difficult? Can you describe it and compare it to the Arkham games?

-Is there any customisation?

THANKS IN ADVANCE

-Are there many decisions in the game? Yes
Do they have important consequences? Yes

-Are ther many storylines,or one main storyline? A main story line that could be several ends
Are the side missions connected with the plot? Yes

A recent video that's reasonably free of major spoilers for the books, while doing a nice job of touching on some of those questions you have is this one:

As for your gameplay questions:

- Combat: I can't say, have yet to play the game. The devs describe it as being inspired by the Arkham series. If it's anything like TW2, which it appears to be, it's a bit of a mix of Dark Souls and Arkham combat. A lot of the difficulty comes form researching what monster you're about to be up against and preparing for that encounter prior to combat.

- Customisation: You can change your character's beard/hairstyle, as well as get different armours and weapons. Furthermore, you get to develop your character in the skill tree as you level up, where you'll find three general paths - Alchemy, Magic and Swordplay. You're free to focus on either of those as much as you would like. The main character himself is pre-determined, but you can make important choices in the game, altering the course of events.

Thank you for answering!I have already seen all 3 videos that were posted, but they didn't answer my questions

Any further answers would include major spoilers for the books, and may subsequently ruin major reveals in the game for new players. Read what's in the following spoiler tag at your own risk:

-What are the motives of Geralt in this game?To save Ciri?To stop the Wild hunt?To reunite/save yeneffer? To stop/win an ongoing war?Or are all/some of these connected?

Geralt's motives seem to be to find and help protect Ciri from the Wild Hunt. She is like a daughter to him.

-Speaking of which, what is the current political situation? Why does that king want geralt to find Ciri?To save her or to kill her?

First off, that's the Emperor of Nilfgaard, not a King. Without spoiling too much, he definitely doesn't want her killed.

-What exactly are the motives of the Wild Hunt? Are they supernatural? Are they after specific people or whole kingdoms?I know that they cought yenefer and geralt,or something,in the past, but why are they after Ciri? What is this Elder blood?

The Wild Hunt are elves from another dimension. They believe in a prophecy that foretells the destruction of the world due to an Ice Age. Officially, their motives are to be able to teleport all the elves from Geralt's dimension to their own, so they can protect them form the Ice Age. There is evidence, however, that they've slaughtered and enslaved the humans in their own world, so it's possible they wish to invade Geralt's world instead. It's something that's open for interpetation.

Anyway, to achieve this, they need Ciri. Due to her genes, this Elder Blood, her child, if she has it with a man with the right gene as well, would be able to perform these mass transitions between dimensions.

And some more general story questions:

-Are there many decisions in the game?Do they have important consequences?

Yes, choices and consequences are a very important part of The Witcher games. As for how well they'll be implemented in the third game, it's hard to say, as it's not out yet.

-Are ther many storylines,or one main storyline? Are the side missions connected with the plot? How much % is the story?

There are side quests and side activities, though the focus in the franchise has always been on the main story. Often, you'll find that side quests have some connection to the main plot. Usually, in order to achieve his goals, Geralt, the main character, is forced to get involved in matters that would not normally concern him. Meaning that going through the main story consists of getting involved in multiple subplots.

Ok, I'll try it.

But there are spoilers (mostly from books) and other players (especially players) can have different opinion..
-What are the motives of Geralt in this game?To save Ciri?To stop the Wild hunt?To reunite/save yeneffer?
Yes, no, yes. Ciri is one of two most important persons (the other is Yennefer) for Geralt, I don't know anything or anyone else, who would have same attention from him. They are real family - with both parents which would do anything for their child.
Hunt is probably not his goal - it's just obstacle connected to Ciri, not to him. But as I said, he would do anything for her.

To stop/win an ongoing war?Or are all/some of these connected?
In fact he did not care much about wars, but he always can change his opinion. He did not participate during first war and Triss' speech maybe changed him, maybe not. During second war, he had another things to do.

-Speaking of which, what is the current political situation? Why does that king want geralt to find Ciri?To save her or to kill her?
Not sure what king do you mean. King of the wild hunt wants her for her abilities, other kings maybe want her for her political role (there is still chance to reveal fake Ciri)

-What exactly are the motives of the Wild Hunt? Are they supernatural? Are they after specific people or whole kingdoms?I know that they cought yenefer and geralt,or something,in the past, but why are they after Ciri? What is this Elder blood?
Those are elves from different world. They want Ciri's powers to travell wherever they want, gain more power. They wiped out whole civilization of world, where they lived. As far as I know there is one kingdom, but some elves had special abilities - Alvalac'h, riders of Wild hunt.
Elder blood is probably key to special powers (like control of Gate of worlds ~ travelling on any place). It can be also called Lara Dorren's blood (Ciri's ancestor) or Hen ichaer.

-Are there many decisions in the game?Do they have important consequences?
Not enough for me (as a big fan of one specific side), but yes - more that in majority of other games and with different outcomes. (not something like Far cry 4 :) )

-Are ther many storylines,or one main storyline? Are the side missions connected with the plot? How much % is the story?
Not sure what do you mean, but as I said that storyline can be different (based on choices). Side missions are there, I don't think they had big impact on main plot, but maybe now that will be different.

And once again I was too late :D

Maybe you shouldn't force yourself to play Witcher 3 as soon as possible, take your time. Nobody is forcing you to play it immediately.

Why skip two-thirds of the series just to play the last game right after the release?

I can understand, if you don't want to read 7 books, that would take way more time than playing two games, but even if you don't have enough time to play the first two games, why rush things and play the third one first :)

At the end of the second game...
Geralt announces his intention to go and find Yennefer.
But time has passed since then, and his motives may have changed. So you can expect his new motives to be revealed during the game itself, and you won't be expected to know it at the start.

Regarding the other two questions, as some of the answers have already hinted, the answers to these questions come from the books rather than the previous games. That means CDPR should be explaining it in the game itself, as, despite the recommendations you've just read, they'll work on the assumption that the player HASN'T read the books.

Well, first of all ,i do not have enough time to play all 3 games,as i have other things to do and other great games are coming soon, for example the Arkham Knight. Also,i own a PS3(and PS4),which means i cannot play the previous games,as far as i know.

Yeah, that's a real bummer, but you won't be the only one new to the series by playing the last game, so the game itself has to explain a lot to you new guys anyway.

-Combat seems a little bit poor and boring. Is it difficult? Can you describe it and compare it to the Arkham games?
Curious , why it looked poor to you? You have simple attack, heavy attack, parry, dodge, 5 signs that do completely different things. Then you have preparation with potions bombs oils. Ive beat all Batman games on hard difficulty. It felt awesome, it looked awesome ,it was very fluid. But it still was simplistic 2buttons to win combat. Witcher 2 combat, with all it flaws, felt like a nice mix of action and strategy imo. I think Witcher 3 combat will be improved version of that.

It's understandable. Everybody has one's own liffe...

But, don't blame us later if after playing TW3 you feel the urgency to play the two both previous games!

There are plenty of choices and consequences. There is always instant consequence after a choice, but many choices have delayed consequences in addition, and they are hard to predict. Some choices influence other choices and consequences, and you may see the difference when you're replaying the game. It was hard to implement. :)

There is main storyliine and many sidequests. Some sidequests are set in chains.

Important characters and events have their own storylines you may explore or not. Those storylines have choices and their consequences may influence main storyline. The game is very immersive, so it's not only about additional XP or other rewards, but about people you care about.

I can't tell how many sidequests do we have in the game, but I may say that I'm satisfied with the number. The game is long (I've been playing it for real) and if you're going to go for additional stuff, you are simply lost for the world.
