The Witcher universe in a brand, new video

“So-called witchers... Stray children taught the ways of foul sorcery, their bodies mutated through blasphemous ritual. Their numbers have dwindled through the years. But a few still roam our lands, offering their bloody work for coin. To this day they shame us with their very existence!”

Watch our newest video and listen to a wandering preacher spin the tale of how magic came to be and how the vagabond monster hunters known as witchers fit into the universe of Wild Hunt.

Very well made introductory video. Phenomenal art, narration is neatly done in the vid. All in all, great stuff for the typical layman who knows little to nothing about Withcer universe.
With that beign said please quit hyping the game and focus on finnishing it!

Edited:

Again, it's great you(CDPRD) are releasing nice comic trailers, but I think people here would rather like to see a gameplay video or dev diary.

In my opinion this is better than any material released so far, and yes I think it's better than Swords of Destiny and trail.
It just has that especial feel about it.
Great job to people who worked on it.

my father always told me "A caballo regalado no le mires el dentado" (Don't look a gift horse in the mouth)0, so anything CDPR give me for free will be always wellcome for me. I cannot speak for the other pleople here.

For me personally it's not better or worse than the other trailers, but I have watched it more often than any other trailer expect for Sword of Destiny (just epic) and Elder Blood (loving the mysterious atmospere of the trailer).
What I like about this trailer is the atmosphere. It has this desperate and aggressive mood. It reminds me of the atmosphere in witcher 1. Althought I highly prefer Witcher 2 over Witcher 1, the atmosphere in the first game was better in my opinion. This trailer gives me hope, Witcher 3 will be closer ti the first game in this area.

Exactly.
That especial feel I was referring to is as you put it the "desperate and aggressive mood", kind of like the feel of the Witcher 1's outskirts of Vizima and the Temple quarter. I felt like it was like a volcano that could explode any minute, and that's why I loved Witcher 1's atmosphere.

I like this one, been a bit cool on others, but this captures the heart of the Witcher. Being the man alone, walking the path of shadows and remaining unbowed and untainted, despite the world condemning you.

This is one of my favorite things about Geralt's character. I love how he's not this beloved/chosen hero like the main characters in most other fantasy universes.

There's something infinitely more badass (and realistic) about a character who is trying to make their own way in a hostile and chaotic world. So yes, in many ways I also think this is "the heart of the Witcher"

This video can only be appreciated by fans of soulless Witcher 2. The flashback is better than in W2, through much worse than in W1. As I've already written, the flashbacks from W1 are pretty more expressive. Comics stylistics with animated effects is not suitable for this setting!

How? In what way? What determines that the animated sequences isn't "suitable" for the setting?

If they put TW2 style animated sequences in something like Mass Effect, well that's an example of something that isn't suitable for the setting. However The Witcher is a grim, dark, vicious and disturbed world... The crude artstyle, with generally dark and bloody animated effects fits the Universe quite suitably.

If you don't like the style, that's fine, it's definitely odd and not for everyone, but the notion that it "doesn't fit" I find extremely ridiculous. As stated in the other thread, I'm not going to hate anyone for preferring TW1's flashback style because they were gorgeous, but some of the comments against this animated look is just absurd.

And I'm not even going to approach opening the can of worms that is The Witcher 2 apparently being "soulless", because well that would throw this thread on a inappropriate tangent and it's frankly a fucking ridiculous notion not even worth discussing.

After watching this again, like 5 times...

-The part where Geralt stands in the castle, he's a symbol of stoicism - upright and dignified. It's all the filthy humans who show gesture, leaning away suspiciously, cowering and gossiping. A nice juxtaposition to illustrate Witcher lore.

-The voice actor punctuates his style with abrupt intonations:"Men of the North!" or, "And yet you do not plead!" while the rest is a raspy, sinister tone. Reminds me of the melodramatic approach of evangelists here in the states. I hope this guy has done VO for the game. I want to meet him on a street corner in Novigrad, a crowd around him, he's yelling and frothing at the mouth, gathering his flock.

The guy has a point. The Lodge of sorceresses and their arrogance and lust for power had a big role in the way things went down, but it does not justify genocide. Nothing justifies genocide.
He has a pitiful tone, when he says that Witchers were stray children that where forcefully mutated and deprived of emotions through blasphemous rituals. I think he is attacking mages more than the Witchers, although he seems not to be fund of Witchers as well. He believes that evil mages turned poor children into abominations called Witchers, so Witchers need to get eradicated along with magic because they are created by magic.
The question is would these children choose to be Witchers, if they had a choice ?
Would they choose to go through so much suffering and pain with minimal odds of survival to become Witchers, tools who are forced to live a miserable life hunting monsters?
Would Geralt have chosen to go through so much pain and suffering to turn into a white haired and infertile mutant whose flesh has been scarred, his bones crushed, and his life almost taken from him countless times, while being called a freak and having no hopes of having a normal life and seeing his children grow up?
I believe mages created Witchers, so Witchers clean up the mess they created.

Very nice vid, subs are must because music is to loud
(and finally music without voices- in my opinion that's why this video is extra)
Every aspect of artistic thing that is coming from CDPR is top, but some new game play woudt'n t hurt
