The Wither 3. Cross-platform saves issue

+
Hello!
I’m having trouble with cross-platform saves. I was playing The Witcher 3 on my Steam Deck, and now that I’m trying to transfer my saves to PlayStation 5, it’s not working. (The same thing happened with Cyberpunk — I managed to transfer the save once, but as soon as I selected “New Game,” the cloud saves disappeared. In The Witcher, I pressed “New Game” first, and now I can’t load my Steam Deck saves at all.)

Here are the steps I’ve taken so far:

  1. Enabled the cross-platform save feature on both devices (in-game).
  2. Logged into the same CD PROJEKT RED account on both platforms.
  3. Uploaded the save files from the Steam Deck to the cloud.
  4. Made sure both games are updated to version 4.04, with all DLCs installed.
  5. Tried creating fresh saves on the Steam Deck and restarting the games on both systems.
  6. Deleted all new saves on the PlayStation, signed back into the CD PROJEKT RED account, and only saw the PS-created saves from the first time I launched the game.
  7. Of course, I’ve read the support article on the official website.
    8. No mods were ever used.
My guess is that the game somehow overwrites or hides the cloud saves as soon as I start a new game, but I’m not sure how that works.

If anyone has experienced a similar issue and found a fix, I’d really appreciate the help. Thanks!

You might want to try these steps, just to rule out REDlauncher as a potential issue:

Update:
The issue was caused by the REDlauncher not running on Steam Deck (unlike Cyberpunk 2077, which still launches with the REDlauncher). The Witcher 3 doesn't — which meant I couldn’t log into my CD PROJEKT RED account and sync my saves. I ended up resolving it by launching The Witcher 3 on PC, where the launcher works fine and cloud save sync happens quickly and smoothly. Please consider bringing the REDlauncher back for The Witcher 3 on Steam Deck — it would really help with cross-progression support.

I have another Issue with Cross save. I played Cyberpunk 2077 on my PC for years and now i want it to play on Nintendo Switch 2 and Ps5 with Cross save. But my Nintendo Switch 2 save files are not start to upload. Also not on Ps5. On my Cross save files stays the PC Save files. Is there a way to delete them? It cant be that im not able to start a new Game?

Are you logged to your RED account on both PS5 and Nintendo Switch? If we're talking about CP77, go to Load Game menu, there is a Cross Progression button there and you can check if you're logged in. Once you're logged in, each latest save you create will be uploaded to the cloud and available on other platforms.

Hello,
So, REDlauncher should be actually launched before The Witcher 3 - as it is part of the game build. I could imagine couple of possible causes of not launching it:
1. There are some launch flags/options passed during launching and because of them, REDlauncher is actually skipped.
Please, make sure, that on SteamDeck, in game Preferences -> General, the "Launch Options" field is empty.

2. There is some Game files integrity problem.
Please navigate to Preferences->Installed Files and use "Verify integrity of game files" option.

3. REDlauncher fails to be launched (or crashes).
If such happens, there are two things:
3a) It would be great, if we would get the generated REDlauncher logs from you. We could analyse the issue and maybe fix potential bug.
To get the logs, you need to switch to "Desktop Mode". To do that, you can hold power button (or click "STEAM" button and choose Power). In the menu that appeared, you should choose "Switch to Desktop".
Now, "Desktop mode" allows you to navigate through the entire system. The logs are located here: /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/292030/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Programs/CD Projekt Red/Redlauncher/logs/*
You could then either use the browser on SteamDeck to send them, or use extra software (like warpinator) or configure scp to get the files from the device to PC
3b) Maybe the REDlauncher files got corrupted. You could try to remove them (after removal, during the next Witcher3 launch, the REDlauncher files should be recreated).
To remove the files, again you need to be in the "Desktop Mode".
You should just remove the whole directory /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/292030/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Programs/CD Projekt Red/Redlauncher/

After the removal, you should just get back to "Game Mode". It could be done by double-clicking on "Return to Gaming Mode" icon on the desktop on SteamDeck.
Now you can launcher Witcher3 again and observe.
